Anyone seen this? Italian gun boycott.
Jonnin replied to Caster's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I found the link to beretta's military lineup... its a greed based decision and the original author failed to note that they make this type of gun, see above. -

Even with this it will be hard to turn down a good beretta. And, bad as this is, I would hate to see such an old company go under forever over one moment of greed/stupidity. (I suspect this is more of a greed thing than anything else). And, contrary to the story, I am pretty sure beretta makes a military style rifle. If this does not qualify, then I do not understand: Deprecated Browser Error and if memory serves they own what used to be SAKO which makes some $5k military guns... Deprecated Browser Error -
Do you teach to "Take up the trigger" or not?
Jonnin replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
No. If you cannot shoot the gun the way it is designed, you may have the wrong type of action for the shooter. Its ok to take it up on the range for fun but you do under stress what you practice and under stress, taking it up is begging for trouble. If she can do OK with it as is, great, if not, consider a SA or DA (not DAO) or light DAO (there are a couple with long 3 ish pound triggers, para has one, I have seen others but they may be modified?). -
Bloody weekend aftermath:

I also have the lee turret, only had it a year but I got the steel framed one and its been great. Overall, turrets are nice for making pistol ammo, and not too bad for rifles. Rifles are odd because you take the brass off to trim it after sizing, and taking it off the press to trim means a single stage operation for the first part of the process (bulk size, bulk trim, now you can turret). The 3 things that make the turret awesome are: 1) the turrets. Swapping calibers takes only a moment to set up my powder device and I am done, as my dies remain in the turrets which can be hot swapped. 2) The automatic powder device. If using a turret and a funnel / dipper setup, it would be much, much slower and the speed gains from the turret press would be lost. 3) The ability to make just a few rounds here and there. Since working ammo is produced one by one (as opposed to making 50 primed cases, then 50 powdered cases, then 50 uncrimped rounds, then 50 finished rounds...) you can sit down for 10 min here, 10 min there and produce a few rounds here and there, they add up without burnout. I made 100 rounds of 45 this weekend just making a few between other chores.

Do you feel that business should have the right to Opt-Out?
Jonnin replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Not powerless. If they were shooting people and trying to overthrow, the exact opposite of powerless would be seen. Powerless is only for stopping a large protest march without hurting anyone...The one thing that confuses me here is the car exception that was discussed. I dont see a difference between my car (my property on someone else's property) and my pants (my property on someone elses property) for storage of the firearm. ???. I agree 100% with the property rights comments found here. However, many places put up a sign "no recording devices" which are constantly violated, and the penalty for that is some rentaguard saying "put that away please". I expect the gunbuster sign to be treated exactly the same way as these other signs, which is to say, the most that comes of it is asking the person to leave the property by whoever is in charge of the property at that time. I do not accept that having the gun on the posted property is a crime (this makes an allowance for not seeing the small signs that are used, inconsistent posting of doors, etc.), the posting is a suggestion same as it seems to be for other things. If the person with a camera, cell phone, gun, loud kid, or whatever refuses to comply with the person who confronts them, then we have a crime... trespassing, disorderly conduct, and whatever else. If they draw the weapon, that is the first time the gun actually enters into it in my eyes -- at that point we have all sorts of laws being broken. I realize the above view is not reality and do not advocate wearing a gun to posted locastions nor do I do that. It is just how things should be, IMHO. Once again the forum refuses to allow any blank lines or formatting, a very odd error I am having. Sorry about that. -
Lol sorry. The stuff around it is safer because you can carry there. Its not really unsafe at the mall, it just has a very high number of theft from vehicles --- assaults are very, very rare there. Living and working next to it has been an eye opener about that issue. I am not really all that bitter, I listed some good stuff to look for too! Just trying to warn him off from the stuff that is over hyped or overpriced etc. The aquarium is awesome, by the way, I didnt say that but its worth the crowds and parking issues to see it.

hamilton place is no good, its anti gun and high crime area to boot, tons of theft from vehicles in that area. Avoid like the plague. The shops nearby are not so bad and good food surrounds it. Gun stores, shooters depo is great, and a lot of pawn shops with a few guns. Sportsmans and academy are great, and Dick's as well has some gun stuff. Hero gear is a long, long drive from here, close to 2 hours? And while its a great shop, its not 2 hours extra driving great unless you have like $3k to spend on something hard to find and high quality like a custom 1911 or AR. Im jaded toward the tourist stuff, the aquarium area is crowded and expensive and the imax refuses to show anything excpet "man created all evils that destroy the world" or other nature shows. Seriously you go to see some cool show and its always "lookit the horrible stuff man did to these critters" -- you cant enjoy the show for it. They refuse to play theater 3-d movies. The stuff on the mountain is ok but ghetto... rock city has... rocks. Ruby falls has... more rocks. The incline is a nice ride up thru a somewhat rough neighborhood, but the leaves can be OK on that in the fall. It isnt fall right now. Of all that stuff, the railroad stuff isnt bad, the incline and mountain stuff isnt bad if you like rocks, the aquarium is very good if you like fish and critters. The river boat and river gorge tours are nice. Most of the rest of it is high priced waste of time. Goonie golf and lake winnie (small amusement park) are nice for kids, as is the creative discovery museum. Chatt is designed to keep you out of most of the areas downtown, they want you to stay in the expensive area near the aquarium mostly or the mall areas. This is for 2 reasons: 1) its high priced and they want to pick your pocket and 2) chatt is a bit rough right now, the other areas have a lot of crime. Stay in the better areas after dark for sure, and avoid the walking bridge and park near the aquarium, or crossing the river (opposite the aquarium, that park is on the far side as well).

EXACTLY. On top of this, apart from the costmetics, there is no real difference between this and a 9mm glock with a 30 round carbine mag stuffed into it, except the glock is easier to conceal until the person opens up on a crowd! The 223 has slightly more range but that is splitting hairs. Apart from its size and the ability to attach plastic dodads that make it look like a military firearm, there is no real difference at all. Would the cops freak out if LE had been carrying the .22 LR version of the same gun (PLR-22)?! Its LESS powerful than the glock I mention but looks the same! I think the issue here is that we have a pistol that is a bit large and scary looking to john-q-sheeple and therefore the cops have to react to that, but they have no legal right to do so beyond checking the HCP and then saying "have a nice day". Again, LE is right, but his attitude provokes the officers and creates issues where none should exist.
-
They need to clarify this badly. The gun is a pistol unless modified to be a SBR. I don't care what it looks like or how big it is its a pistol. Yet in a different case TN all but said an uneducated jury gets to decide if the gun is a pistol or not.... thankfully the case was dismissed before they got to that point but that is how vague the laws are. LE is right more often than he is wrong, but his methods suck.

To me, shall not be infrigned means just that. No exceptions, no limitations. The 2nd states in plain english that stores do not have the right to restrict firearms (and neither does the government). I agree the store can refuse service, and can ask you to leave, for any reason, but that is difficult to do for a properly concealed weapon. -
Not an expert but don't some old guns have the internal mag well jacked out so the gun will accept stripper clips or something similar? This is so far outside my normal areas... I could be (and often am) mighty confused.
-
a shop or to a dealer at a show you are lucky to get blue book value which is roughly 85% of what THEY can buy the gun for new from their supplier. Or, in short, about 60% of what you paid for it new. Ouch! Meanwhile, if you sell to an individual you can get close to your money back ... I would by a like new gun for about the going sticker price of the same gun, new --- I get to save 10% in sales tax and the background tax ($10) and possibly a FFL fee if I had to order it or transfer it, etc. so my actual savings are good enough and everyone wins this way.

Have you tried an inversion table? Hanging out upside down for 15 min in the morning is supposed to help. We got one for $100 used, but it wasnt for back problems (its for an inner ear problem). Advil cna help reduce swelling and help it heal a bit if you aggravate it, if you take like 4 every 8 hours and rest (during flare ups, not as a daily thing. It wont fog your head). Keeping the backs of your legs well stretched/loose helps, as tight hamstrings pull your hips which can aggravate/cause back problems or making existing ones worse. You should be able to sit at a 90 degree angle, you back on the wall, your legs flat and knees locked to the floor, at a minimum, when you can do that much, the pull on your hips is reduced enough to be good.

You may have to clean it afterwards before longer rounds will go in, but it should work. Seems like a case of 44 sp in 44 mag, 38 in 357, etc, where the only issue is gunking up the last fraction of an inch of the cylinder to the point that bigger rounds won't go in until the gunk is wiped out (or get stuck somewhat after firing if they did go in). Im not a fan of the 410 shotshell pistol stuff, but I got to shoot a long barrel judge with some 45s and it 1) was very comfortable, accurate at short range, and a nice gun and 2) was oddly quiet, the quietest gun I have shot over a .22

Probably can reload for it for less than 50 cents a round. Not sure what caliber it is but rifles from that era you can often make working brass from a similar, common caliber too. Did you try prvi partisan (spelling?) --- they make a lot of hard to find caliber ammo and I think they supply some brass as well. --Edit looks like you can make ammo from 30-06 cases and 303 british slugs. I use a copper tube cutter (a plumbing device) to cut 30-06 cases down for a similar cartridge (7.65). Its tedious, but after you have a stash of 50 or so cases you can just keep reusing them for quite a while, 50 cases can mean 500-1000 rounds of ammo over time as you reuse them.

Has anyone seen the browning one yet? Ive seen pictures but do not even know if they in production.

It was last year so I could be a little muddled too, but as I recall I hit buy now and it said I needed to either have X number of transactions already or join with some sort of premium membership --- the rationale being that if you paid them or had a bit of a reputation, you wouldnt hit buy now and default on the seller, maybe as a form of griefing (make new account, buy now, over and over, to mess with some seller you dont like?). Not clear, but they worry that people with no rep can somehow mess up their system. I do not think you can just buy the option to buy-now, I think it is bundled with some sort of membership so try looking in those areas of the site.

Glad you like it. Those are the type of gun that I like to carry so I have a mental list of stuff in that size range. Its hard to talk triggers, lol. The bersa's I have picked up and tried have I guess what I would call "typical DA triggers". Which means they more or less are long and heavy on the first pull and fairly sloppy on the second pull. But thats from a guy who compares everything to a quality single action revolver or rifle trigger, where if you touch it, it goes bang. You won't find anything this small with a much better trigger (still not saying much compared to a SA), unless you get a mini 1911 ... and I dont know of one of those with a rail.

I hate the reserve crap. Its just a time waster ... idiot puts gun up for $0.01 with a reserve of $800 or whatever, no one meets it, week in and week out it is cluttered with the same guns because they don't sell because you can't see the min bid. Oh, and because I havent paid them money or won enough auctions, I cant buy now... so I can always be sniped, which prevents winning auctions, which prevents being able to buy now.... at one point I got irritated and contacted the seller and bought the directly thing outside GB (it was something he had a bunch of and sold 2 or so at a time). Its a horrible system but its what we have I guess. good stuff there sometimes.

Better than most as he used the same gun for both. But the 380s used are JHP loads, which are known to have penetration problems (many recommend ball ammo or flat nosed solild ammo). He also uses energy which weights velocity over mass. K energy is 1/2 MVV while momentum is just MV. Note that the 9mm has about a 25% advantage in momentum, vs 65% advantage in energy.Clearly the 9mm is more powerful, no doubt about it. But this sort of comparison makes it look to be more than twice as effective. I really do not believe that any more than I buy the paper being discussed in this thread that has the 380 beating most other calibers for effectiveness. Both conclusions are the result of skewed data analysis. I say all that as someone who wants the most in the smallest package. I normally pocket carry a small 40 caliber but there are times when its too big and my 380 is used, and when that happens, I know its weaker but thats the choice, small gun or large caliber, there isnt much middle ground esp if you dislike the DAO guns.Well no matter what I do it will not indent. Sorry about the wall o text.

Yeah, like you have a degree in economics or something…
Jonnin replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
And in france too, which is one of the most left leaning. Knowing college like I do, I suspect she didnt take a lot of math and does not have the background to being to understand economics beyond about what a high school kid can handle. A journalism degree get you what, algebra II, if that? Econ has some differential equations, statistics, and more that she probably didnt even have a basic class on. -

He should have said "yes, highest honors, what is your degree in again?" But he is nicer than I am. -
The District of Columbia Would Like To Sell You A Gun
Jonnin replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They only somewhat recently allowed handguns or carry or something, I forget? Maybe just slow moving + looking for a way to profit from it and limit them by going around the supreme court ruling? Best of both worlds if they have just 1 state run FFL transfer where they can charge $100 per transfer... (best for the state's pocketbook, not gun owners). -
Rent/borrow stuff first if you really do not know what you want. Selling or trading that ruger is going to lose you money regardless (their value compared to their quality is not a good ratio) so almost anything you can get in the same price range is going to be a downgrade, with the exception of a lucky find on a used gun or a good condition military surplus gun. If you sell it, throw another $200 with it, then buy something you do not like, you are right back to selling for a loss. I cannot recommend enough trying out a lot of stuff, write down the ones that you really liked, then ask again... "hey, I tried a glock model whatever and liked it, what is similar to it, looking for this or something like it, what are my options, etc?" Your current question will get you a list of stuff, all very different, because we have nothing to go on to guide you. I could tell you how much I love my desert eagle, but it weights 5 pounds and costs $1500 and probably isnt the most sane thing to recommend to you, but how would I know? If you like the ruger, keep it. Selling a gun you like is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Thats about as much good advice as I can give for you on this topic.
