  1. My brother who always stubles across good deals, bought a Jeep Cherokee from guys on the side of the road. They were broken down and trying to get to Bonaroo. He offered to give them a ride or call a tow truck, but the folks actually sold him the vehicle instead for a real bargain. Well, a few weeks later, my brother is stopped for speeding and the officer inquires about a small staw like thing in the back which was actually part of a tool that he uses in his business. The guy gave him a hard time and then asked if he could search the vehicle. My brother said, "sure" since he had nothing to hide........and then he started sweating bullets during the search thinking about how he bought the vehicle off of guys headed to bonaroo!!! Everything turned out okay, but man, that could have gone differently.
  2. So, this morning in passing my wife says she would like to carry the 3at more. The gun show this morning had a new PF9 for $249. The cheapest I had found them was at CDNN for $229, so after I paid the shipping and transfer I would have been back at $249 anyway. I suspect I will end up with a .45 also in the near future, but for now, I guess my decision is made. Thanks to you all for the input.
  3. I can't answer that, but I have found baiting a live trap with a honey bun will catch possums or coons. I tried everything to get those critters and finally a little old 90 year old farmer lady told me to use honey buns. It has worked every time. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  4. I guess we will see what deals are out there at the gun show in the boro this weekend.
  5. Thanks for all the feedback. I suspect I will end up owning both the PF9 and PT-145 at some point in the next year or two. I few months ago I had the itch and went to trade my P3AT for a used PT-145 at the LGS. The offer they gave me was the 3AT+$330 for a used PT145. That was almost comical since I can get a new PT for $299. Glad I kept the 3AT. Had to send it back to Kel-Tek, but they worked the bugs out of it that my fluff and buff did not fix. I am going to keep thinking about it a few more days, but I am leaning toward the PT-145 first. You guys have thrown out a lot of good options. I really would consider a new CW9 if not for my previously stated moral objection. I may keep my eyes open for a good used CW9 as well if the right deal comes along.
  6. Peejman, What % of the time do you carry the pt145 vs the p3at? Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  7. I was pretty excited about the CW9 or PM9 option at one time, but I don't really care to give Kahr my money if they really have close ties to Universalism. From some of the things I read, it sounds like their holding company has very close ties to the Church. I would probably consider buying a used one since they would not be benefiting from my purchase though. I haven't thouroughly researched the matter, but based on what little I have read I am not comfortable buying from them at this point. One think I do like about the 9MM is that I am already setup to cast and reload 9mm and have lots of brass.
  8. My primary carry guns are a G26 and a P3AT. Both are reliable guns that I enjoy carrying. My wife really likes the G26, so I leave it with her most days. If we are out and about together, I typically carry the G26. I love how easy the P3AT is to carry, but it is a .380 and I don't overly enjoy shooting it. I have been thinking of picking up a new gun to give me another option for EDC. I have been thining about a compact 9 like the Kel-Tek PF9 or a compact .45 such as the Taurus PT-145. I like the PF9 or CW9 because they are just a little bigger than my P3AT and look like they would be easy to carry and have a bit more fire power. I like the PT-145 because it is relatively close in size to my G26 (and because it's a .45). I can get the PF9 from CDNN for $229 or the PT-145 for $299, so either one is a bargain. As I lay out my pros and cons, I think I am convincing myself to lean toward the PT-145. I pocket carry the P3AT 85% of the time, and I suspect the PF9 is too big for comfortable pocket carry. If I am going to carry IWB or OWB, I might as well go ahead and carry the PT-145 or G-26. Any thoughts?
  9. N2bikes in murfreesboro is a great shop without the stealership prices. I have used them for several years for any work on my bikes I did not want to perform (dirt and street). Never a complaint Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  10. Excellent. I will check Franklin Gun Shop next time I am over that direction. Thanks!
  11. Yeah, I don't even recall seeing it at gun shows....but I was not looking then. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  12. So, I got to shoot my first explosive target last weekend and I am hooked. That was a lot of fun. I am looking to find some Tannerite for the next time I have friends over to shoot at my place. I know I can order online, but is there a Middle TN LGS that carries it? I checked my LGS but no luck.
  13. I was giving OP the benefit of the doubt and assuming OMG stood for "Ordered My Gun".
  14. I would toss out the Kholster as a cheaper alternative to the Crossbreed for a comfortable IWB holster. I bought one for my G26 new for $50 or less IIRC.

    The next gun...

I have owned a P95 and sold it before moving to a G26 many years ago. I love the G26. It is one of my favorite guns. I don't get to carry it often because my wife loves it just as much as I do! If you are not familiar with the poly rifiling issue related to reloading for Glocks, you may want to read up on that before making your choice. Personally, I have traditionally loaded jacketed bullets for my glock. I am now getting into casting, so I will likely buy an aftermarket barrel for the glock because of the poly rifiling and potential KB issue. There is a lot of debate on this issue, but that is the path I will likely take.
  16. Sunday I was getting ready for Church when my 6 year old daughter came in and said "Dad. I'm ready for Church." She had a huge smile on her face. I looked at her and she was wearing a long skirt a long-sleeved shirt. Nothing except for the mischevious smile seemed out of the ordinary. Then she said, "I'm going like Mrs. ______ today" as she lifted her shirt tail and revealed a rather large (for her frame), orange cap gun revolver riding IWB at 2 o'clock. Printing was so minimal I would have never noticed. One of the ladies at church regularly carries and it seems she has made quite an impression on my sweet daughter. I noticed when she bought the gun that she passed on the similar gun that came with a big western holster. It did not occur to me that she passed on the large western holster because she was more interested in carrying concealed like Dad and the other grown ups that she respects. There are a couple of little boys that she is occasionally around that like to run around OC'ing their cap guns. Without starting up an OC debate, let me just say that I was proud of her choice. It almost made me want to buy her a belly band holster.
  17. My kids were quite interested as well. I have a buddy with toy soldier molds. I think I am going to save the zinc weights and make toy soldiers with the kids. That seems like a good use of the zinc!
  18. I am going to use a Lee 125gr 9mm round nose 2 cavity mold first and see how that goes.
  19. So I went to the flea market and picked up cast iron dutch oven (really old and rusty) yesterday. I got my thermometer in the mail, so I was ready to start casting. I set aside all of the stick on WWs, fired up the turker fryer and started melting. It was outside and a little breezy, so ventilation was great. Walmart had stainless steel condiment cups for 88 cents for 5. I bought 20 for under $5. They hold about 1lb of lead each and they worked great. All of the lead dropped right out. I ended up with about 20lbs of lead ingots. I was fluxing with a stick candle and it seemed to work pretty well. I don't know yet how clean is clean enough on the lead. I felt like I could have gotten it a little cleaner, so I will melt down and flux again and go back to ingots. The pot was pretty rusty, so I am going to clean it out better before I re-cast the ingots. It was my first time to do this and it was tons of fun.
  20. I am new to casting but the one mold I bought to start with is 9mm. I cooked up some ingots yesterday in an old cast iron dutch oven. I think I am going to melt and recast to ingots. I don't feel like I fluxed enough. It was a learning experience. Can't wait to cast a few 9mms though. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  21. Caster, I had heard that the lead would stick in the muffin pans if you did not spray them first. Hmmm, I will try it without it first if that seems to work for you. I plan on sitting my stick on WW's aside for now and not doing anything with them at this point. I plan on just starting with 9mm to see how it goes. Then I can expand from there. I do have a fan I am planning to use but don't have a respirator yet. When you say melt twice, are you saying that you go all the way to ingots and then later melt those ingots a second time, flux, etc. and go back to ingots?
  22. Thanks for the feedback. I forgot to list welding gloves, eye protection, silicone spray for the muffins and a chunk of wax for fluxing in the things I have gathered (wife has not noticed the chunk out of her decorative candle yet). I will checkout the Midway pot. I am leaning toward the Lee Ladle instead of bottom pour for now....I think I will probably only do a few hundred at a time also. On the ventilation side, I am committed to doing the initial smelting of the WW outside in open air. I thought about the garage with the door open because of the rain, but did not want to risk poor ventilation or strain my marraige by cooking that nasty stuff in the garage.
  23. So, I am new to casting. I picked up a bunch of wheel weights, a slotted spoon, a ladle and muffin tins. I already have a turker fryer and a pot....but I am thinking I will need to rig up a heat shield of some sort. 200-1000 degree thermometer is on the way. Man, I have been itchin all week to cast some ingots, but every evening when I get home it is either raining or a good chance of rain. I am thinking 600-700 degree lead and rain are not a good mix, so I am sitting here wishing for sunny days. If you notice anything I am missing for my ingot session, let me know. I bought a Lee mold and I have been thinking about a Lee bottom pour pot. I may try it first just old schoolin' it with a ladle and hotplate or campstove. Anyone have thoughs on the Lee melting pot, bottom pour pot or a budget setup without a lee pot?
  24. Thanks. I will give that a try.
  25. Anyone out there have a solution for flying squirrels chewing on the side of your house? I live in a log house and we have had an issue with this. I had them in the attic, but I dispatched those and blocked their entry point. Now they chew on the outside of the house at night. I killed one over the weekend in the middle of the night hoping that would solve the problem, but one was back last night. As fun as jumping up in the middle of the night and shooting something may be, I think it is time to open myself up to other options. Anyone know of a spray repellent or something like that for treating the wood?
