  1. Yeah, I knew to lube the bullets, but my lee mold instructions say "Warning: do not start casting bullets until your mold has been lubricated." It says to lube with Lee Bullet Lube #90007 and not the liquid alox. I did a quick search and it looked like a lot of folks used cande wax, bees wax, crayon or silicon spray for that.
  2. I accumulated some wheel weights a couple of months ago and melted them down to ingots. Today, I finally had a chance to cast some bullets. I used a lee 9mm 2 cavity mold and a cheap ($25 or so) electric Lee melting pot (the smallest one they make). I was really pleased with how quickly to pot headed up and recovered after adding lead. I will probably only do 200 - 300 rounds per session, so that small pot should be just fine for me. I did not have any lee bullet lube, so I lubed the mold with silicone spray. That seemed to work just fine. The only snag I had was when I set my ladle down too close to the candle that I was fluxing with. When I dipped the next scoop of lead, I got a nice smolder and then the "poof" of flame that follows when you flux. It scared me enough to make me jump with my full ladle of lead, so now I have the first of many burn marks from casting. I thought water had dropped into the pot or something and I was braced for a nice explosion of lead. Overall, casting was at least as much fun as I thought it would be if not more. I can't wait for my next session.
  3. You got me on that one. I had to google it. I watched the SNL skit and that was hillarious.
  4. I live not too far from Outpost and go in occasionally. Since I pass by there most days, I try to only stop in when there are few cars in the parking lot and they don't look busy. I have not bought a firearm there, but I have bought holsters, a few accessories, some ammo and lately reloading supplies. Customer service for the accessories and holsters has been great and service in the reloading area was even better. They will likely get whatever reloading business Midway does not get from me. There has been a time or two that I wanted to look at a handgun and it was difficult to flag down a customer service rep because that area of the store was a little crowded, but I chalked that up to just being a busy day for them. I do see some pretty good prices on used guns in there occasionally. I have not made it up to D&T or G&L yet, but hope to do so soon. I seem to come down with .45 fever every now and then and I am thinking there may only be one permanent cure for that....
  5. I bought my pf9 new at a gun show for 249 about a month ago. CDNN investments has them for 229 but you have to buy online. I decided to buy new because of the potential warranty issue. Mine has been 100% reliable out of the box and I more often than not carry it these days. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  6. Aren't we supposed to be "clinging to our guns and religion here?" All kidding aside, I realize I am in the minority here and I appreciate that we can all voice our opinions. I felt like I should post a little reasoning behind our decision in my previous posts since the OP had a real concern that my family also has.
  7. Ditto on ethanol being evil. I used ethanol gas in all of my dirt bikes this last year and I had five bikes that had trouble becuase the petcock seals were destroyed by the ethanol. Where are you guys finding non-ethanol gas? All of the major brands around me seem to have ethanol in them.
  8. I think you are making nicemac's point for him when you say ".....each one of them is as real as the next.....". I want my children know that they serve a holy, righteous and loving God who hears them when they call upon him and need him. If "one is just as real as the next" to a child, they might be praying to the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny or Santa in their time of need. My kids appreciate Robin Hood and many of the traditional fairy tales, but they have not for a moment thought they were true. Likewise, they are familiar with the Santa story and know it is just a fairy tale. When I tell them a fairy tale is not true, it does not steal the joy of it. They still enjoy it very much. As for my family, we place a heavy emphasis on truth in our home and the ability to discern truth. That seems to be a lost art in our culture. I know our culture has embraced the Santa Story, but I don't feel compelled to join in just because of the culture deems it to be normal. If you think my kids are deprived because they don't believe Santa is real, you should see them some time. They are bouncing off of the walls and are so very excited about christmas. We still laugh about the time we were in a store and somone asked my son who was around 5 if he had been good or bad this year. He responded with "In our house we have a grace based christmas." I don't know where he got that, but he was right on target.
  9. Sorry to divert the thread, but harbor freight has had a coupon out for an electric chain saw sharpener for 29.99. It is fantastic! I sharpened my three blades first day and three for my dad the next. Probably 5-10 minutes per blade. It made me want to throw away my files. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  10. I will stand with the minority here. My wife and I both come from staunch pro-santa homes. When we started our own family, we talked about it and came to the same conclusion. We feel our number one goal as a parent is to hand off a personal faith in Jesus Christ to our kids. When we thought about telling our kids that a big fat man performs miracles and gives you good gifts on Christmas and he is real and you should believe in him even though you usually don't see him........oh, and by the way, Jesus performed miracles and loves you and wants to give you the most important gift and you don't see him.......we got concerned that those messages sounded quite the same. So, in light of our family mission, we have decided to be truthful with our kids about santa. We have taken the approach all along that lots of folks pretend that Santa is real and if they want to pretend he is real too, that's okay....but it is just pretend. Jesus on the other hand, is real. All of our cousins, etc. do the Santa thing and our kids have never blabbed. On Christmas morning, we are in a house full of kids with our extended family every year and you can't tell the difference in the kids that do Santa and the ones that don't. They are all very excited in the days leading up to it and they are incredibly excited on Christmas morning. We are not ba-humbug people at all. We love Christmas. We decorate for Christmas. We loving buying gifts for others and receiving gifts. We read stories about St. Nicholas. We just choose to keep Jesus at the center of our celebration. We have lots of fun Christ-centered activities that we have done over the years and continue to do that add to the Christmas excitement while keeping the real meaning at the center. My oldest is 11 now and we have never regretted our decision for one moment. All that being said, great theologians hold different opinions on the matter and even James Dobson has said that he does not believe it is harmful to do Santa with the kids. So, I don't have stones to throw at the Santa crowd and I believe it is a pure coincidence that you can rearrange the letters in his name to spell "satan".

    Taurus pt145

The 299 price I mentioned is at CDNN. You have to buy online but I find many of their deals to be cheaper than bud's. I don't see the stainless model in their catalog, so you could call and ask how much more for stainless. Earlier in the year, academy had a great deal on stainless, but that price is back up close to 400 now. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks for the input guys. I will melt it down and use normal precautions. Caster, if it seems soft, I will send you a PM and we can talk.

I have not bought one yet, but that will likely be my next purchase. For $300 NIB, it is hard to pass up!
  14. Flying squirrels are the ones I have struggled with. I caught 2 in live traps and then they got smart on me. Since then, I have shot several in the attic and many more outside chewing on my house in the middle of the night. The tactical light on my 10-22 has come in quite handy. I shot all of mine with 22lr, but those cci 22 shorts are so quiet. If you are really itchin' to shoot sumpin' , I would go for it. It's a lot more fun than a live trap any day. 15. I am new to casting and I have been using wheel weights. I have a buddy who is a "thing finder". You name it and he finds it. I mentioned to him to keep his eyes open for some lead and next thing I know he shows up with an 80lb block of lead. Not knowing its origin, should I have any concerns? I know I have read that you shouldn't smelt lead from car batteries. This looks like it has already been melted down from its source material. Any concerns, or just proceed with the normal safety precuations?
  16. The website was www.tractiongrips.com Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  17. I just added tractiongrips to my PF9 and it seems to make a big difference. I think they were around $7 shipped. I am still looking for the right OWB holster myself.
  18. We are eating a turkey we raised. I will inject him with creole butter, rub him down with cajun seasoning and then fry him. Did the same thing last year and I could really taste the difference in the one we raised. Best turkey I have ever had. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  19. Robatto, it was simple to use. My 9 year old loaded a couple with my help. The lee online instructions were not good, but a youtube video was helpful for me as well. It is slow, but I will probably only shoot 20 or so 30-30 rounds per year, so for $15 it was perfect for my needs. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  20. I have used a progressive press for a couple of decades primarly for loading 9mm. I have never loaded rifle and I have always wanted to try the little Lee Classic Loader.....the kind that you load with a hammer. I stumbled across one in 30-30 for $15 at a gun show recently and tried it out tonight. I really had a lot of fun with it. I think I just enjoyed the simplicity. It would be easy to throw in a range bag and tweak loads at the range. This sure is the other extreme from my progressive press, but it was lots of fun.
  21. By the way, I do have a Kholster for my G26 and like it.
  22. I am looking at Old Faithful Holsters. They have assembled holsters or you buy the kit where the kydex is already pressed for your gun and you just assemble the components. That option is less than $30 and it looks like a nice holster.
  23. I was online today looking at IWB tuckable hybrid holsters (like the crossbreed supertuck). I stumbled across Old Faithful Holsters which is a site where you can order the kit to make your own hybrid tuckable holster. One kit option has the kydex already pressed for you. It looks like a really good option for me, but I was curious as to whether any of you folks have done business with them and if so how you liked the product.
  24. I was skeptical on how well I would like mine. I have had it nearly two years and now I don't like reading paper anymore! It is fantastic. One cool feature if you have a long comunte, is that it will read to you. I use that alot in the car. Also, I hear now you can checkout ebooks from the libarary but I have not done that yet. Also, customer support is stellar. Mine died on me a month or two outside of warrany. I assumed I would have to pay for another one but they allowed me to trade it for another one at a nominal cost.
  25. I go to all of the boro shows and for me they are generally pretty good. They were deficient on reloading supplies this time. Found some tannerite which I plan to dispose of today. Prices were all over the board but some were great. I bought a pf9 for $249. The cheapest I have seen that is 229 online but I would have paid shipping + transfer fees online. So, overall I was very happy. Outpost had my reloading supplies, so i'm a happy camper. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
