Cherokee Rod and Gun Club of Kingsport will begin its Military Rifle and Pistol Match season on Saturday, March 21, '09. We will have seven match days this year, all held on the third Saturday of each month from March through September.

Modern Military Rifle Match is held at 0900, Modern Military Pistol is at 1100, Vintage Military Rifle is at 1300, and Vintage Military Pistol is at 1500.

We shoot all rifle matches on 6" bullseye targets at 100 yards while standing and shooting offhand without sling or other support. We shoot ten rounds in ten minutes and then score targets, repeating this for a total of 30 shots.

Pistol matches are also fired from the standing offhand position on bullseye targets at 25 yards......again, we shoot three strings of ten rounds with a ten minute time limit per string.

Match fees are $5 per match, and we have 5.56mm, .30 US Carbine, and .30-'06 ammunition for sale at reasonable Club prices (sorry, we can only sell you enough for that day's matches.)

Here are some photos from last years matches. We shoot under a roof and our firing area is new asphalt with seating for spectaters. The clubhouse is less than a hundred yards away and has flush toilets. Picnic tables are also provided just outside the clubhouse.

Sorry, can't help you there as we have churches for neighbors and don't open up until one in the afternoon on Sundays. However, we have .22 silhouette matches on Tuesdays during spring, summer and fall. Go check the club calendar at http://www.cherokeerodandgunclub.com/ and take a look at the dates. We're also going to have a CMP Vintage Military match this summer, but haven't established the date yet. We'll also have a Service Rifle clinic this summer. So keep your eye on the club calendar as some of these events are open to the public. You might also be interested in the turkey shoots.
