Remington 1100 Question

Recommended Posts

I've got a 1100 that is about 20 years old. The last time I cleaned it, I noticed the "o" ring on the mag tube by the gas rings was about gone. It is hard, cracked and about to fall off.

Has anyone here ever gone to the hardware store and bought a replacement o ring? I hate the thought of spending $4.50 for a genuine Remington replacement when I can get one for $.45.

Will it work ok? Remington says theirs is Teflon. All it does(I think) is seal the gas from going the wrong way up the mag tube.

Opinions???

Thanks.

That is correct. You can replace with a non-remington O ring. I cannot for the life of me remember the part number or size, but...if you will shoot over to trapshooters.com and ask or just do a search over there, I know a great many of the fellows over there replace their O rings with "hardware grade" rings from the hardware store.

I assume an "o" ring that fits an 1187 would fit an 1100. I was told on shotgunworld.com that a #33 "o" ring from the plumbing section in hardware would work. I went to Home Depot and picked up a couple to keep on hand. I gave one to a fellow shooter on the skeet range when his blew out and it worked just fine.
