I recently was looking for a gun in that same price range; however, after researching and testing out some guns I decided to get something that felt right for me and was reliable. I finally decided to purchase a Springfield XD 9mm. It is AWESOME!!!! Try one out and you will fall inlove

The only one on your list I haven't shot is the S&W. I have owned, shot or worked on the others.

The Bersa Thunder 9 works really well if you are on a budget. Find a used one, they should be sub-$300.00. They are hard to find in my area used, that may say something also.

However, after all the guns I try and have tried the Glock 9mm is king for me. I have had a small, well not so small, bucket load of them. I do a certain amount of "custom" work on them as well. I would recommend Glock 9mms in this order: 19, 17, 26, 34, 17L. I would also recommend Advantage Arms .22 conversion kits for the the 19. The 17,34 and 17L all use the same frame so the AA kit for the 17 works for any of the three.

Why Glock? Pros: They aren't picky about ammo. They are durable, reliable and accurate enough. Aftermarket support/items are extensive. They are simple to completely (I mean completely) disassemble and reassemble. Parts, if you need them, are easy to obtain and are inexpensive. Did I already mention reliable? Cons: the grip (for some) and for someothers is the fact it has no thumb safety. Both of which can be remedied aftermarket. Another con is for many Glock shooters to initially shoot low and left due to a number of factors, i.e., poor grip, lack of practice and lack of dry firing.

If you are interested and willing to buy used, Gunny's in Maryville has a XD 9 subcompact in for $499 as of yesterday.

I looked at the XD 9 subcompact and wanted to like it, but it just didn't feel good in my hand.

At the moment, the top of my list is the Glock 26 and M&P 9c - the Glock 19 is just behind these two. You hit on my concern about the Glocks - I prefer a handgun with an external safety. The Glock doens't have one, but you can get the M&P with one. So, what does it take to add a thumb safety to a Glock?

From that list, the Stoeger Cougar in a heartbeat. Formally known as the Beretta 8000 Cougar, Beretta sold all the equipment, machinery etc to Stoeger in Turkey. Only difference is they're being built by native Turks now instead of Turkish immigrants in Italy. :death:

good callout hex - i honestly forgot all about the cougar. I remember my stepdad talking about the cougar back in the 90s, how he couldn't wait for them to come out and then by the time they finally came out he had already went with something else. I have heard many good things about the stoeger too. Still, im not sure between that and the P95. All seem decent, i just dont care for the sigma

You could get a used Beretta 92FS, good reliable gun. I have a 2nd gen glock 19, carry it some, but my primary carry gun is a S&W 642 38, gotta love 15 oz. in the airweight

I just got back from the range and shot my friends 24/7 in 9mm. That is a great shooter. Feels good in the hand. Shot well. She put around 150 through it without incident. All in the x or 9 ring from 7 yards. It's the first time she's ever shot a gun. I'd completely suggest it to you. You should be able to find it in blue for $350-370ish.

I would go with the ruger or taurus. I own a 24/7 in .40 and I love it. Not as much as my glock but its a damn good gun. You can find plenty of accesories for it also.
