I have noticed several gun defense courses offered though gun dealers. I was wondering if anyone has taken one and what you thought.:dropjaw:

My father (Marine) tought me how to shoot, as did several other family members and friends. I do not think I'm some kind of sharp shooter, but I'm not bad. ;)

I wonder if I could benifit from the course, $$$ = knowledge-abilty gained

Personal defense shooting is a lot different than sport shooting and a little different than combat shooting.

I think it is a worthwhile course. Not so much for accuracy but concepts of liability, what/how to carry, how to respond to a confrontaction, and how to shoot instinctively instead of aimed.

Which ones would any of you guys recommend?

A buddy directed me to Rattlesnake Ridge, what struck me is that they state: "You need a Name brand pistol. or You can rent our Glocks"

Wonder what they consider "Name brand"

I think it's a good idea to take some basic defensive gun training, but some of these classes are on the verge of being a complete waste of money for the average person.

I've never attended this one, but http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/critical-incident-strategies/24724-upcoming-advanced-concealed-carry-aug-09-a.html is probably one worth checking out. The price and requirements are not outrageous.

Based on what I've heard and read, the above mentioned class would probably suit the average HCP holder.

Pretty much anything is Name Brand. But I would "assume" they mean Glock, Springfeild, Smith, Colt, Ruger.... not a Raven, Jennings, HiPoint.

Something you would carry and defend your life with. They probably dont want to have to stop the drills and strings of fire to clear a jam in "el cheapo".
