Looking for info on Catoosa or Royal Blue Firing ranges

Recommended Posts

I live in Oak Ridge, and it appears I am nearly in the middle of these two public ranges. I saw on the TWRA web site a little bit of info, but not much. It wasn't very specific about the locations and I can't even find the road for Royal Blue on any map web site.

I was hoping someone here could give me more info on where to find these and what to expect when I find it. Are there any restrictions, fees, etc?

Thanks

Don't know a thing about either one of the ranges though I've been to both along time ago. If you are in Oak Ridge as I am, the range in Norris is your closest public range. They have a $10 range fee but you can shoot all day long for 10 bucks there. It's on Upper Clear Creek Rd in the watershed located just east of town. Stop at the PD in Norris and pay the 10 bucks and they will give you a map. It's about 5 min from the PD.

If you can't make the shoot this coming weekend in Kingsport, you should get out to the next shoot in October. I'm hosting it on our range just west of Oak Ridge behind the K-25 Gasseous Diffusion Plant site. See East Tn TGO Members OCTOBER 2007 Meet for more information. I've hunted in Catoosa, on the Genesis portion three or four times a few years back.

We were down Peavine Rd. and I hunted more toward the Obed River that way. (No luck though.) Not sure of any firing ranges though. The was a make shift one in camp.

here is what I found in a quick search though...

Catoosa WMA - Peavine Checking Station and Genesis Checking Station. Open Apr. 1-Jan. 31, except during turkey hunts. Contact Jim Lane (931) 456-2479.

Prentice Cooper WMA - Rifles and handguns only. No shotguns. Open Thursdays through Mondays, daylight hours only. Contact Clint Smith. (423) 658-2518.

Sorry... best I could do...
