21-Year-Old Flown To Vanderbilt After Hunting Incident - NewsChannel 5.com - Nashville, Tennessee -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Maury County man was shot at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency's controlled dove hunt, and the shooter was an 11-year-old boy.

The victim, 21-year-old Alex Berlin of Columbia, was shot in the face and chest by 8-10 pellets according to sources on the scene.

The weapon was a 20-gauge shotgun. Officials said the weapon was smaller and less powerful than a 12-gauge shotgun.

The victim was alert and talking on the scene Tuesday evening, but he could lose his right eye because of the incident. Berlin was in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Hospital Tuesday night.

Some expressed the controlled hunt was too crowd.

"We've had fields as high as 150 before, so actually today is a slow day for us. I've been in Maury County on the fields for almost 12 years, and this is the first accident we've had," said TWRA officer Tommy Edwards.

The TWRA and Maury County Sheriff's Department were conducting a joint investigation. The boy was on the hunt legally, and he was accompanied by his father.

Use to love to go on those organized hunts. Finally got to be to many idiots and low birds and after the second time getting peppered by shot I had my fill.--MP

I can't help but feel sorry for the kid, he screwed up and he knows it. I hope the target doesn't lose his eye. That would be harsh. I wonder if he was wearing safety glasses?

I wouldn't imagine that safety glasses would stop the shot, If he was far enough away it might.

If he only received 8-10 pellets to the face...I'd say the shot was probably a good bit off. Assuming the kid wasn't hunting dove with #2 shot of course. :)
