Making your own targets.

I've been thinking of making/buying some targets, but I need some input.

I'd like to make some silhouettes. I want them to be durable enough to withstand .308's without getting holes busted in them, but I don't want anything (even stuff other than .308) to ricochet and come back towards me (within 50yds). I have nearly no experience in this type of thing, but I shot at a range this summer that had a thick steel silhouette that could take all kinds of stuff and nothing ricocheted, so I know it's possible.

Also, I've been looking at some of the spinner targets that they make for rimfire, like this one:

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Do-All Outdoors .22 Auto Reset Target

Anyone have any experience with these? Any recommendations?

i made a very nice set of swinging targets(hangs on chains), one is 12 inch round by 1inch thick, nothing goes through it, the 1/2 inch gets beat up quick! .223 goes through it with a FMJ. 06 and 308 just puts big craters in it. i have had some come back and hit me even at 30 and some at 50 yards but nothing at 80 or 100 yards.

For all my targeting needs, I use nothing but the cheapest store brand paper plates. For short distances I mark each with three or four quarter-sized Sharpie marks. They fit well in my gearbag. You'll need large binder clips.
