1911 Magazine won't lock in

Recommended Posts

So this past weekend i bought a Novak 8 round magazine for my Springfield GI for about 30 bucks. It works great and feeds perfect. Then today i ran across a 8 round magazine in a generic package that says CS Products on the bottom for $10. The problem is with the cheap one, if i put 8 rounds in it, it won't lock into the gun. If i put 7 rounds in it, it will lock in just fine and feed fine. If i put 8 rounds in it and put it in with the slide open it will lock in but of course the top round is chambered eliminating the 8+1 option. So i know you get what you pay for but for $10 bucks i figured it was worth a try. Should i get rid of this magazine? or should i just use it as a 7 round mag? Is it possible for the magazine to damage the gun? Any ideas why it would do this?

What kind of 1911? is the frame steel, or alloy? the only damage that can be caused is a malfunction, misfeed which can get you killed, therefore anytime I have any issue whatsoever with a magazine, I get rid of it. The Wilson's are expensive for a very good reason they work, I also like CMC Powermags, I own about 30 of them and they have never let me down. you can get the CMC powermags for $18.00 if you look around.

I have a .40 Kel-Tec that is supposed to accept more than it does. Consequently, I don't carry it anymore. In your case, it's the mag, but the gun is worth keeping. In my case, neither the gun nor the magazine is worth carrying.

I have a Wilson Combat

Stainless steel 8 rounder that does the same thing because it was designed that way in order to be more reliable. Doesn't say which model number it is on it but I remember there were a couple of different 8 rounders to choose from. I apologize for my earlier question which was clearly answered in your original post. As far as the magazine you have, I'm guessing it was designed to perform that way. If that is unacceptable for you, maybe you could replace the follower with a different design to give you another 8 + 1 magazine?
