I have searched with little success for carry laws in VA. I found the laws listed on the Virginia website but they dont address all the issues i am wondering about. Can someone please tell me the link to the carry website that provides info on armed travel to Virginia. Thanks. Sorry i had no luck searching for the info ;)

Spend a lot of time there. I'm curious what specifics you are looking for?

just the basics...I'm driving up there to pick up a rescue dog. Chances are i wont spend more than 2 hours outside of my truck. I just wanted to make sure i didn't have to notify officers if i happen to see one in a gas station or encounter one in any other way (outside of a traffic stop, i will do so has a courtesy.)

Also, what is the status of restaurant carry in VA? I know laws changed or will be changed in the next few months. I understand that you can open carry but not conceal in restaurants that serve beer/alcohol. Is that accurate?

They did pass the concealed carry in restaurants, but I don't know the effective date it takes effect.

per Handgunlaw.us, VA is NOT a must inform state, but if it were, iirc, you only must inform if the officer stops you, not if you were just standing in line at the gas station and he walked up behind you. It would be a little awkward to be a cop and walk up on a guy and he turns around and says, "Evening officer, oh, just to let you know, I have a gun".
