DIY heat treat oven..I've decided to try my hand at CCHing & the price for a new oven was outrageous..next I'll be making a trip to Memphis for the ifb & shopping ebay for the control components...where is the best place to buy wood & bone char?

Brownells is the only place that I know that sells the charcoal that one would need. Just like the oven - there has to be another source that is cheaper.

Are you going to make a drop ladle or just pour it into the oil/water? Am really interested to see if your build works. If so you could start somewhat of a garage business making those ovens.

Yep, I managed to do allittle welding on my breaks at work...lol..not a welder by profession, but a good electrician can do anything...I got the ideal from a posting on youtube and a pdf drawing from another gun forum. The guy on youtube really made his look nice & I hope to "mirror" his kiln when I'm finished. If I'm correct the temps should be well over 2200 deg F if I needed that much..I believe I can finish with about $160.00 in it, most of the cost from the brick..It will have 8x8 inside chamber, heated by Kanthal A1 elements.

I think Brownell has a crucible for round or little over $100.00 depending on size and the ones they offer are cylinder shaped. I made some square 4x4s & 3x3s with lids out of 3/16 square tubing..
