M9 Drop Holster

So I've got a buddy who is shipping out to Afghanistan next month. He's being outfitted with a rifle and, since he is a lt. col. an M9. He tells me that the army issued holster is pure crap and also relates that he wants a drop holster (not even sure what that is). He might be calling it the wrong name, basically a holster that hangs down the front of your leg from what I can tell.

Obviously concealment is not an issue so what is a good choice?

Also learned that actually getting to shoot for him is pretty rare. Hasn't shot an M-16 since 98 and only qualifies with the pistol every 3 years (or so, I forget the exact time frame). They also spend an hour cleaning the pistols after they use them. Holy crap, an hour to clean an M9? I hit my 92fs with the garden hose and some head and shoulders and call it a day.

I have one I will give him if you are ever in the smyrna/murfreesboro area. It is a foliage green blackhawk serpa drop down I used in Iraq as a PL. I was trying to sell it but will be more than happy to give it to another Soldier.

He's in the reserves and tells me there is some friction about that.

Thanks for all the replies. I suppose the safari land is the no brainer. I wanted to get him a kershaw blur as a nice "you are getting promoted present" but I ordered one and, well, it came today, and well, it is a really nice knife, and well, guess who is keeping that thing.

Plus he seems way more interested in his multi tool and drop holster than the knife. Cause there is someone in this equation who has a problem with knives and it is not the lt. col.

He'll love the safariland, thanks for all the advice.
