Dies for hornady LNL AP

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I'm getting set up to load and need recommendations for dies to go with Hornady LNL AP.

It's too late to get into the dillon vs hornady debate: I saw this "Graf & Sons - HRN PRESS LOCK-N-LOAD AP WITH CASE PREP ASSISTANT" in the previous thread and my wife purchased it for xmas. it's a done deal for me.

I've been relading 12 guage for a couple of years (1000 rounds every 3-4 months) on a progressive MEC but have never reloaded brass. I know enough to be methodical and pay attention, but will have much to learn.

In terms of volume and starting out, I would be reloading .45 and 9mm for handgun and .223 for rifle. Other calibers would be 30-06, .270 and 7mm.

Are there any real differences between dies from different mfgs that would make one better than the other or, is it mostly a preference?

Any issues with buying used vs new?

Recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Seawash

I recommend Dillion Carbide pistol dies and use the Dillion Carbide in .223 and .308 they have some really great features.

In other calibers that they don't offer dies in I use Redding or RCBS.

I've been buying the Hornady three die sets in order to get the free bullets. That deal ends Dec. 31st though.

This. All of my dies are Hornady. I pay $30-ish for the dies, then get $25-$30 worth of Hornady .308 bullets for the price of shipping ($6 or $7). The dies come out costing me $10-$12 in the end. They have had this deal for several years and they renew it every time it expires.

Your new press will get you 500 bullets (of your choice) if I remember correctly.

BTW, I have dealt with few companies that have customer service that matches Hornady. They are about as good as it gets in that dept.
