Favorite Hand Load

Recommended Posts

THIS LOAD IS FOR MY HANDGUNS ONLY, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. NO ONE BUT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR HANDLOADS!

Mine is 40 S&W. I like Rainier or Berry 165gr (heavy plated) hollow points. I like the concave area on the base of Rainier bullets.

I use various brass and whatever primers I have on hand. I love Hodgdon Longshot powder for this round and use 7.5gr for almost all loads. I find this load to be accurate, clean and easy to make with minimum equipment. The OAL is very important in my firearms, I load near Min OAL.

I also like this load with 180gr Rainier and Berry bullets of the same type.

The handguns I use this load in are GLOCKs, 23 and 27.

What is your favorite handload and what firearm do you use it in?

Have more than one, post them.

30-30

10 to 12 grains of 2400 with a 165 grain cast lead flat nose

Kicks like a .22 magnum to me. Cheap plinker that can take small to medium game. My Mama would shoot this one when she was just a little 70 year old lass.

I like a max load of H110 (I think it's 16.6 gr, but I'm away from my loading log) under a 158gr jhp/jsp. I only shoot it out of Rugers or my Marlin 1894. It's pretty spectacular on thing like water jugs and bowling pins when coming out of that rifle!

I also have a really nice and soft plinking load for .44 mag using a 240 lswc and HP38... 6.1 gr I think. Feels like a .38, and I can get all the holes touching each other at about 15 yards. Good enough for me!

Ha!! Tokarev, that 38 load is what I brought to the range last weekend! It did shoot well, as evidenced by the golfballs flying around. That was the first time I tried that load and it's a keeper. I was shooting Hornady 158gr LSWCs with it, as I bought a crapload a couple years ago when Midway had them on sale.

The only two calibers I reload for anymore are .223 and .45ACP.

223-55 GR fmj,22 grains of Accurate Arms 2230 A good, accurate general shooting load

.45ACP-200 GR LSWC,4.5 grains of Winchester Super Target(WST).This was the load I settled on back when I competed in IPSC.When I shot it in a 1911 I would use a 15 lb recoil spring, this combo made major but had minimal recoil. This same load works great in my Glock 21 and 30 also but with a plated or coated bullet and in the 30 a round nose bullet.

44mag, 250gr SWC over 19 of 2400

45acp/9x19mm/38spl/44spl 6 of W231 under a 230/124/158/250 lead bullet

These work in my guns. YMMV, check your manuals.

From memory:

25 grains of accurate 2230 under a 55gr projectile, .223 plinker for the 5.56 chambered armalites. Real cheap to reload. Doesn't clock as fast as Q3131, but the blast is pretty close. Brass doesn't last long.

8.2 grains of accurate #5 under a 230 gr .451 plated projectile, 45 acp. I scored a bunch of ranier hp's last year or 2 ago I think on sale, wow, what a great bullet.
