Installed my first custome Android ROM

Anyone who has experience with a Sprint Galaxy S2 have something they'd like to recommend? Maybe something with step-by-step directions that even I can understand?

Depends on what you mean by compromised. CyanogenMod and most AOSP ROMS make it so the security needed for exchange services to work is in place, they don't make roms full of security holes. I haven't seen any software that looks for busybox or superuser when you're using a company phone, but I guess it could exist. Verizon sucks because they lock their bootloaders, but there are ways around that and ways to return to stock without being able to tell you rooted; if you don't accidentally brick it of course. I have a sprint s3 and it's really easy get back to stock, there is even an app called "Triangle Away" that removes the evidence that you flashed custom recovery software.

Oh that software exists, and just about every enterprise level organization uses it.

It is very possible to catch people doing that within 15 minutes (few minutes for the logs to propagate), they could also possibly lose their job for even attempting to circumvent the digital protection, and some people could find themselves in a mess of civil and criminal issues (depending on who the phone is owned by).

Without looking at the two links, I think he is showing you the other links for you to get a better understanding. Trying to put the wrong firmware on you phone can turn it into a shiny paperweight real quick.

Well TripleDigitRide, I found lots of info, and it looks like you could be successful at rooting and ROMing, but I didn't find it laid out quite as well as the Skyrocket. The problem is that you are running an S2 variant that is slightly different that the standard S2 that was released. Your model number is SPH-D710 and the standard is i9100.

It looks like the process is the same as mine, but you'd need to figure out what ROM and radio files are compatible with your phone. If it was mine, I'd jump right in, but not being mine, I'll recommend caution.

**My suggestion is to become a member of XDA-developers.com and spend a couple of days reading through some posts gathering information. Then I would post up a noob question about ROMing your specific model and I'm sure you will get the answers.

I was pretty apprehensive about it until I actually did it, then it was a piece of cake. The longest part was backing up, and Titanium Backup made that simple. If you decide to jump off into it, I'd be happy to help as much as I can, just let me know! Edited November 25, 2012 by piercedan

I use the d710, and have for a while now... Can get you the specifics on the modem and software that works best for me, but the weird thing is one modem version may work 200% better for you than it works for me. Will get that info for you tonight or tomorrow, need to finish some homework and help the wife put up the Christmas tree

I spent a couple of hours last night watching many of the video in the link you posted. Being a little nervous, I would feel more comfortable if I could find something with a list of procedures, start to finish. I wasn't able to figure out what the first step is that I need to take. You mentioned backing up using Titanium. Is that the first thing I need to do in the entire process? Is Titanium an app or some kind of program?

I really like the idea of being able to over-clock, and, if I understand correctly, turning my phone into a wifi hotspot. Does that mean I can use wifi on my phone from anywhere?

Wi-Fi hotspot is when you use your phone's data connection and supply Wi-Fi to something like your laptop.

Overclocking is nice, but underclocking and undervolting is awesome for battery life.

Yeah, since it works off of your data connection. You could use it with 1x/1g/edge whatever, but it'd be really slow!

This means you can mount its internal memory partition as read/write, which lets you do various things: have USB or Wi-Fi tethering, uninstall applications you otherwise can't uninstall (e.g. the Amazon MP3 store), install applications that need root access, disable the camera shutter sound (simply by deleting the shutter sound file), overclock or underclock the CPU, install and boot Debian, and so on.

Make sure I'm talking about your phone, because I'm not familiar with either of these phones. Also CM9 and CM10 look like they are in beta for your phone, so you might look at other roms; or at least read a lot on the betas first.

XDA is full of elitist nerds who take the terms "noob" and "senior member" a little too seriously, so make sure you read / search as much as you can. Your question has probably already been answered multiple times. Yes, Titanium is an app that will let you back up your programs and user data for easy restore. You can download it now, but for it to work correctly you have to have root access to the phone. You need to run ODIN and install ClockworkMod and possibly something else to get root.
