So are the insides of the barrel actually melonite coated?

Well, yeah, "sorta" as I understand it.

Meaning, I think the exact trade name "Melonite" refers to the surface coating, like on an XD. But the real term for the barrel lining is "ferritic nitrocarburized", of which Melonite, Tennifer, and other trade names are types.

So whether the exact same process is used on the outside and inside I dunno, but it's similar, being done by "ferritic nitrocarburizing", and I think "melonite" is mainly used for simplicity.

I got their facebook post and I called. Unfortunately its one of the new models

It's going to be pretty much impossible to find new old stock on the older sport. Used is probably the best bet, although the new ones aren't bad. Nothing at all wrong with it, just not a huge fan of 1/9 twist barrels (although for the majority of people it is a good twist rate).

For the money now I would look at some of the other budget offerings from other brands or wait until your Walmart has a Wyndham, Olympic or Colt in stock (for the record our LGS here in tricities had the Wyndham for cheaper than Walmart... $750ish I think).
