Draft of Democrat’s 2008 party platform

Democrats have decided to continue to be the party of gun control. Here’s a link to the draft party platform for ‘08 from August 7:

Firearms

We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

Long live the party of doublespeak. I only wish I had sufficient literary creativity (and backbone deficiencies) to write an opening sentence to a paragraph, and then flesh out the rest of the paragraph with additional sentences that completely and utterly contradict what I said in the opening.

I agree with the left on a few issues. I agree with the right on a few issues. But at the end of the day, I vote based upon my guns and my taxes, and the left can do nothing but harm with regard to these two issues.

I'm sorry if terrorists and criminals (espessially gangs) can get Ak-47s and AR-15's. I want two of each as well to defend myself from said terrorists and criminals.

Now it looks like war with Russia is possible. Likely? Maybe not but possible. Once again I want fire power.

Democratic politicians seem to be operating on a socialist agenda...in every one of the countries where they've ruled (yep..the nazis were socialists) they disarmed the populace before they began the tyranny.

these people can NOT succeed with any sort of socialist plan until they disarm the populace.

I won't disarm..sorry folks. it ain't gonna happen. I don't do it because I'm a "gun nut" I do it because I KNOW that no nation lasts for ever..and the most common denominator in peace or war is the ability of one side or the other to cause harm or bring overwhelming force into the equation.

The Illinois governor was contemplating deploying the national guard to Chicago a few weeks ago because of all the murders and gun violence, and I kid you not, they were discussing in the article about how they were going to be putting even more gun restrictions in place (if that's possible).

personally, I'm oing to try to start a petition to ban lighters. I believe that arson is a much bigger problem than gun violence, so I am starting a crusade to eliminate Lighters, matches, firestarters, and any 2 sticks held in close proximity to each other. without fire, there would be no arson. fire is a danger to us and all those around us... think about teh children!

jyst so ya'll know, I was being sarcastic, but to anyone reading this who thinks that the anti gun crowd has a point, remember... substitute the implements of firemaking with self defense tools, and it is identical language.

Gun control is just as ridiculous as "lighter control", and there isn't a constitutional ammendment recognizes one's right to keep and bear zippo's.
