I picked up this nice little gun this morning! Spontaneous purchase that I am very pleased with, very rock bottom price.

A few details for those who do not know; this gun was used during the cold war. It is chambered in the 7.62x25 tokarev round, at the urging of the Russians. This particular one was made in 54, the last year of production for this pistol. Single action only, with a positive safety and an iffy de-cocker. It has a roller bearing mechanism similar to the HK pistols. Very robust gun. Very accurate for me thus far. I fired about 25 rounds through it total.

I bought two of them at an auction several years back. If I remember correctly, they were $70. I gave one a way and kept the other. Clod Stomper is correct. The decocking lever performs the same function as the trigger. Other than that, and poor looking metalwork and finish, they are a great shooting pistol, rugged, and the 7.62x25 is a real screamer for a handgun cartridge! It reminds me of a small bottleneck rifle round.

I don't know why American companies don't chamber new commercial pistols in this chambering.

Actually, it was chambered in the Czech "Type 48" round that was dimensionally interchangable with the 7.62x25 Tokarev, but loaded about 20% hotter.  Rather than doing what the Russians did and make "pistol" ammo and hotter "SMG" ammo, they made a pistol that would handle the SMG ammo.  Pretty smart from a logistics viewpoint.
