They never mentioned it it was live or inert. I would assume the news isnt sensational enough if they admit it was a souvenir deactivated grenade.

Funny statement, it says the "EXPERTS" couldn't tell if it was live or inert. Really? I have an inert or training ww2 m2k (pinapple) grenade bought for $4 at the gun show a few years ago, they are open at the bottom, of course no explosive, just the body to screw in a new fuse for training practice, the fuse pops like a firecracker, I threw a bunch of M67 hollow practice grenedes in boot camp. All the "expert" has to do is unscrew the fuse and look inside and if it's open at the bottom it's a good sign that it's a inert training grenade. :screwy:

When I was a kid in Atlanta, Old Sarge's Army Navy Surplus had a big footlocker of dummy grenades for $1/each.  Pineapples, baseballs, even some potato mashers.

Those things were standard issue for war games in our neighborhood.

Funny, back then my dad would take me and my friends up there on Saturday to spend our allowance on all that stuff.  Today, I'm sure that after the SWAT team got done responding, they'd probably arrest our parents and send the lot of us kids into the foster system.

It's a shame.  Our kids today sure aren't any better for it.

I can only assume there's nothing illegal about having a dummy/training inert grenade since they openly sell them at different places in Tennessee, don't know about other states, it may be illegal to even say grenade in New Jersey. People need to stop being such bed wetters. It didn't even bother me to hold a live grenade in basic, however I was motivated to make sure I threw it far and over the block wall I was behind. Even live they are not just going to expload by themselves. In training there was a scenerio where we would come up from behind an enemy bunker and toss a grenade in it but we had to let it "cook off" for 2 seconds before we tossed it in so they didn't have time to throw it back. Yea right, i'm really going to let a grenade cook off in my hand before I throw it.
