WHEN YOU HAVE TO GET AWAY...

Where do you go? Or where do you want to go? Where do you wish you could go? Where would you say your heart lives?

I saw this on another forum and thought this would be neat to do. You can give as generic of an answer as you wish or specifics on a place...your choice!

I'll go first.

There are few places much more beautiful than the BigHorn Mountains of northern Wyoming. I've spent weeks on horseback in that area, and I would have to say that's where I love. Just north of Sheridan, Wyoming is a highway that turns to dirt, going up into the national forest. It is called Red Grade by the locals. Here's a photo of the area:

Above and beyond that, I'd rather be with my wife, son, and daughter ANYWHERE!

I have the fondest memories of growing up on my grandparents' farm in McEwen, Tennessee. My grandfather still lives there, but doesn't farm anymore. Now we sit on the porch and watch the deer water in the pond where I fished as a child. We reminisce about my grandmother who passed away nearly a year ago. We miss her terribly, but do more smiling and laughing than we do crying. This farm is the place where I learned about life and death and the ways of Mother Nature. It was the first place I ever saw something born. And the first place I ever saw something die. I would rather have learned it there, from Papa, than from a kindergarten textbook. I was 5, and it was a failed first attempt at horse husbandry.

Much more accessible to me is one of my other favorite places to be. It's the opening morning of gun season, in middle Tennessee, with a hard frost on the ground. Getting to my stand, settled in well before daylight in a place where I know any minute things can get real exciting. I love to watch the cold woods come alive at daybreak. I never find myself more close to God, and that's a wonderful thing.

So, where does your heart live? Where do you go, in body or in spirit, when you absolutely, positively have to go somewhere?!?

Have fun. And take us there with you.

I have a couple of places where I am at peace. One would be in a tree stand on the little farm in Robertson County. As the sun just crest the horizon and there is frost on the ground the earth seems like it is still. It is the best definition of silence that i know. I dont hunt to kill, I hunt to "get away", being out there lets your mind rest from the everyday hustle and bustle. If I kill a deer its just an added bonus.

Another place that put at peace was sitting on the beach in Kona Hawaii at sunset. Just looking out over the ocean know there is nothing between me and the rest of the world for 2000 miles is great. When the sun is about to go down over the water, it is magical. Below is a pic from my trip to Hawaii last summer.

Lastly is just being with my family. It dosent matter where we are we always have a good time.
