You're good to go on that. My dad got me one at about that age so I could shoot in our backyard. Definitely the best present I ever got. I wore that thing out over the next several years. Haha, I even developed a very accurate "BB-Drop Compensator" in my head... good times :P

BB guns aren't banned in Oak Ridge but they are not legal to shoot within city limits. I always thought it was stupid but it seems many cities have the same law.

Regarding the gun safety, deal, they work great to teach your kids safety disciplin. Finger off trigger, pointed in safe direction, safety control use. My 7 yr old has a airsoft pistol, looks like a Walther, and it is cool to see him with his finger pointed straight out instead of in the trigger guard, he puts the safety on when not shooting, not pointing at people. I say do it.
