Yes most people set it up to close in the back. I use this belt keeper https://arredondoaccessories.com/belt-keeper/ instead of the cheesy one that usually comes with belts. I know Keith Tyler and he is good people. If you are serious about USPSA, he will save you a ton of time and heartache by teaching the right way to do it.

@TN_Raven Apologizes if I incited fear, was not my intention. Thankfully the safe technician side of locksmithing doesn’t get the same clout as picking locks on social media. As they say, locks only keep honest men out. I still recommend anything is better than nothing. The safe you linked looks more than reasonable and sounds like it accommodates your needs. I’ve not attacked that specific keypad before so I can’t speak to the exploits exactly nor would I publicly give a walkthrough. As far as digital locks on safes, DeviantOllam has a great YT video up on switching your digital to a mechanical….it’s not complicated.

Relocating to TN (Parsons/Decaturville area)
Trapperpunk replied to Norun6's topic in New Member Introductions
I’m not sure what states you’re comparing TN to but with the exception of out west, I’d say we do rely on shooting on private land in TN. The nice thing is many people offer this opportunity to friends and neighbors. I’ve shot on neighbors land every city/town I’ve lived in throughout TN and with the 4th of July coming up, it’s a prime opportunity. -
Sweet piece of history!

IMHO, the right philosophy is to get yourself armed as fast as possible with the best gun you can afford. Your life will NOT be in jeopardy if it's a $250 Taurus instead of a $500 <insert brand that will better impress us on the internet>. If you like guns, you'll eventually want to upgrade to something with features you like better, but for now I think you're making a solid choice on a solid firearm, which is better than waiting until you have 60-80% more money saved up.
-
If your physical liabilities are forcing you to stop carrying IWB, it makes very little sense to move the gun to the furthest extremity on your body. Instead I would recommend looking into appendix carry, particularly with a PHLster Enigma, which is a great option in shorts (I was able to wear mine at the spray park with the kids without a shirt)
-
Don’t get me wrong, a Taurus is adequate, but honestly, as I am reading it, I think your mindset on it is a bit messed up. You are naturally correct in focusing on carry gun before the (presumably more expensive) fun gun in a couple of months. But the carry gun is life saving equipment, and therefore not something to skimp on. Especially when significantly better arms to be had for minimal price differences. On this forum you can often see well cared for Glocks (for example) go $400 or less. Additionally (and this part often gets overlooked) all the other equipment like spare parts, magazines, and (especially) holsters are ubiquitous. I recommend people build these costs into the initial investment for the best return. Lastly, have you shot numerous models, to include the Taurus, for firsthand experience? Online opinions (mine included) mean Jack squat in the face of personal experience.
-
You mentioned considering a left-hand IWB holster due to your back issues. That makes sense, given your past preference for 4-5 o'clock carry isn't working out anymore. Left-hand IWB could be a good fit, especially if you're not too concerned about the extra draw time. Since you mostly wear shorts and T-shirts, you might want to look into holsters designed to minimize printing. Some folks also find that a slightly different positioning or a holster with adjustable cant can help with comfort and concealment. Have you thought about reaching out to a local firearms instructor or someone who specializes in concealed carry to get some personalized advice? They might be able to offer some tailored suggestions based on your specific needs and preferences.
