It depends on the duty position. In my light infantry company all 240 gunners had M9s as PDWs. While Officers had access none carried them unless they were staff at BN or above. My present unit requires a lot of KLEs so we have M9s so when sitting with leaders we are still armed even with our rifles sat aside. I mos def wear just a pistol around KAF though. Carrying a rifle around the FOB sucks.

The pics look very similar to my experiences in the first year of the Iraq war... Very Spartan.

HA! I was like WTF is this? I was pretty blown away the first couple days. I was Infantry at the start of Iraq and I never saw anything remotely close to KAF except BIA. We went to a USO show while we were in Fallujah. They already had BK and a huge PX which was amazing to all of us as we had been living out of 3 day packs.

Some of you may or may not have noticed /been happy et cetra but I will be scarce around here as I have arrived in Kandahar and will be here for the forseeable future. I will see you when I see you.

What did you all do in the service? I was an Infantryman with B Co. 2-502nd INF, 101st ABN from 2001-2004 and now I am a PSYOP Team Chief and will be in Afghanistan this time next month. Happy Veteran's Day!

This weekend PC can play the Caspian Border map on Conquest. I hooked my 40" tv up to my laptop over hdmi last night for awhile and played it.

Speaking of bullet magnets. I was just at a train up for deployment and part of it was at the range. One of the small arms instructors rtold us how he used to be in the AMU and that since he had gotten out of the active component and then been assigned to this training unit on active duty in the Reserve that he had been shot 5 times. On the range. By US soldiers. I saw one scar across the back of his neck and another he specifically told us about was a female LT clearing a round while pointing at him on the M9 range and gut shot him just below his plate. I had wondered why they all wore body armor and plates while acting as safeties. Not after that.
