  1. I am relatively new to IDPA as well. There are a bunch of really good shooters; and a bunch of really good people willing to help you. Compete against yourself, don't worry about everyone else. As you grow in experience you will learn what you need as well as what you don't need. Better yourself each time and everything will work out.
  2. thanks Dave.....will do. I'm going to give it another shot.
  3. The whole purpose was to stop the threat.......which he did, and good for him. BUT he fired 6 or 7 shots and 2 connected. IMO a larger caliber is not the answer. As always it is accuracy that counts, misses don't.
  4. Have acquired a dillon 1050 and need some help getting up and running.......anybody in the Knoxville area have one of these and willing to help? Thanks
  5. The Sigma is a fine, inexpensive gun for self defense. It does have about a 12# trigger, but for their market, that is a much better than a light trigger. If one can develop the trigger control to fire this gun accurately, it will definitely help one to shoot other guns better.
  6. ...but cow and horse manure is OK....? ?
  7. The HCP is not a license to speed??? Dang, I better slow down. Just kiddin', with more people now carrying, especially in the South, I'm sure it is an everyday occurrance for the police. Most are fine folks, just like the one that you met. It's the 'one bad apple' that......well you know.
  8. Can see your point. And like most things....it depends. Noticing how you assisted the slide forward in your video when the slide failed to go into full battery. That could also be encountered with the type 3 malfunction clearing.
  9. I know there a different ways to skin the cat.....but.......in the type 3 malfunction/clearance part of the video I noticed you would 'sling-shot' the release each time. As the basis of most type 3 mal. is a FTE, which can be from a 'sticking' problem, extra force on the extraction/rearward motion may be needed. Therefore, wouldn't it be better to keep a firm grip on the slide to be able to forceably run the slide forward as well as to be able to add additional force to the rear for each of the 3 racks, than to release and re-grab the slide each time?
  10. As always there are two sides to the story. The initial story apparently is not factual. I have heard a version of the 'other side' by someone close to one of the officers. If true, and I imagine the truth is somewhere in the middle, then this will probably fade away.

    My New 1911

Hope it shoots as good as it looks !
  12. Agree.... At least the paper did characterize the shooter as the 'victim' of the theft, and not the other way around.
  13. Tomcat is the .32 cal............had one for 16 yrs. No problems. Easy for anyone to operate. But is a little heavier than the LCP .380. Between the two, like the LCP better.
  14. He will get his just due....and will thaw out rather quickly in the process:death:
  15. Understand that, but both violate the 2nd Adm. and that is the real crime.
  16. Maybe, maybe not. If one truly believes the 2nd Ad. , then she is within her rights to carry. In reality, that is exactly what many Tennesseans do everyday. Many of my friends won't get a HCP because they believe it is their right to carry anyway. Really no difference in the New York situation vs. Tenn., both consider such actions are illegal. This lady is simply getting caught in the New York trap which has been the subject of this forum many times. Even when one tries to abide by the law, you can't even go through a NY airport with a properly packed handgun without some trepidation.
  17. Nothing wrong with a little common sense winning out..........being in short supply as it is. I agree with a previous poster that a well-meaning, decent citizen should not wind up with a felony for this. It was not the perfect way to get the desired effect, but none the less, the primary, potential victim here was saved, and to me it was the right call for this situation.
  18. Waste of time and paper IMO. You don't think the 'bad guys' can create their own paper trail? You gonna have it witnessed and notarized? Owning, buying, and selling in Tennessee is OK just the way it is, we don't need to have more t's to cross or i's to dot. BUT it still is against the law to use any weapon in an illegal manner......and that's the way it should be.
  19. He seperated the driver from the car.....weapon is thus secure. I'm still saying he had unauthorized entry into the vehicle, with everything else legit.
  20. I have the right to refuse, and that does not indict me of anything! No assumption of guilt. All of my weapons are assummed legit. Just because you have taken a pill does not make you a crack-head. I don't need an "integrity check"! Sorry, got to call BS on that.
  21. I think there are other guns that are better, but Kimber has the 'name' thing going. I still see a lot of FTF for one reason or another at about any class I attend. If that is what you want, go for it. But go in with your eyes wide open.
  22. A previous thread mentioned that a young man was stopped by LEO, he presented his HCP. He had been to the firing range and had a handgun in his backpack. The officer had him step out of the car, and then the officer searched the backpack for the weapon. IF ....IF I have my HCP, can the officer then go into my car searching for a weapon? Especially if I am asked out of my car and effectively seperated from my weapon. Seems that without my permission, and no crimes have been committed, maybe other than speeding for example, that would be an illegal search.
  23. Exactly, and the older I get the more likely that is to happen.
  24. Or he just assumed that most police carry 40s, as well as Glocks. To me it makes no difference if he is correct on make or caliber.....it does not change the fact that a gun was pulled, .22 or bazooka.
