Mugler, I swear. At some point here I'm gonna have to check if your sleeping with your woman or your rifle at night..

And its my turn to disagree with everyone. I'm not a small guy (38 waist, 32 inseam) but I pocket carry my P-11 just fine, thanks. Yes you have to be picky when buying pants. But, it works well enough for me. Now the bad news. Most people I've let shoot it have NOT been able to manage the trigger well enough to get any decent accuracy out of it. I'm managing ok and can get the bloody thing to actually group in slow fire. But, the trigger travel is over an inch. If you are a dedicated 1911 fan, I doubt you'll adapt to this pistol. It was really meant for the same type of service as a snub-nose revolver. up close and ugly, can't miss because the target fills your entire field of vision.

But at $400 for the conversion so far.. couldn't he have picked up a dillion progressive and have even cheaper ammo still ? Not saying its not neat, just the $$ doesnt quite figure.

double tap? -
RIA has a pretty good rep.. not some thing to use for competition where you expect to put 30k+ down the pipe each year, but they hold up pretty well with casual shooting. Pretty much the same class as charles Daly and all the other Filipino made 1911's (and probably all from the same factory)

Err.. 38 super to 9mm still seems like a down grade to some of us. I can understand wanting the more common caliber but... to each their own I suppose.

Congrats. Germans do two things well.. mechanical engineering and beer. Here's hoping you don't catch the sig-virus so I can still buy a few more.

Insect repellent containing DEET damage a firearm?
mrming replied to TnShooter83's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I've done some damage to rubber on a camera before with DEET based products. The stuff seems like a pretty good solvent to me.. probably worth keeping away from anything lacquered as well. -
Viola Valley gun range is just outside of.. well, viola TN. I-24, manchester/tullahoma exit just before AEDC. About 8 miles off the interstate as your stuck driving it. Those last few miles can take a while, but its a rather large, nice range with lots of steel. Terry's is off exit 105, I think about a mile and a half down road. Not as big on the public side, does have a gun-club side that does various things.. IDPA matches I believe are hosted there peroidicly. Has rifle out to 300 yards.

Hey Magic;; I'm just a pain in the butt on accuracy. I'm not looking for sub MOA on dried dog excrement shoveled into pot-steel cases or any thing, but I need it to be able to group at minute-of-bowling pin at 100 or I won't be happy. Just curious if any one is getting that out of 'em or not. I've heard plenty of hype, just would love to verify for myself before starting.

I'm trying to make up my mind on if to take a stab at a saiga conversion. Any one got one done and frequent the viola valley or Terry's range? I'd just like to put a mag through it, decide if its for me. I've shot a WASR before but it was a rattle trap.. and the inaccuracy was annoying too.

Heh.. you beat me to it Mars. Only just saw the opinion get posted..

I haven't set back up since I moved. But, I think my last estimate was under 0.15 per round.. and thats with the raised prices and almost no old supply stock. I think the ideal is to buy a year or so worth of components at a go. But that takes a bit more planning than I'm capable of at the moment. Brass in 9mm isn't something you should have to buy for at least a little longer. Most people still just drop it at the range so its prety easy to pickup. I think I picked up around 400 pieces last time I went. Harbor frieght in hickory hallow has a $50 tumbler. Friend got one and has been satisfied, I need to suck it up and get one as well. They are a godsend on cleaning range pickup brass.

FYI: I think its federal law that non-firearms that resemble them have that safety orange tip.

The norinco's are pretty nice.. friend has one. But, the saiga conversions seem aweful nice. I'd like to get my hands on one to try before deciding if thats the direction for me. AR's in 7.62x39 tend to suffer from two issues: 1. lack of reliable hi-cap mags 2. Wolf / Golden Tiger still are not clean burning. #1 is supposedly being corrected by CP-products. However, they are already in backorder for the next month. I haven't seen a in-person review of 'em yet. #2 AR's aren't SKS's. You can't totally neglect them and run dirty ammo constantly with perfect function.

CP's website says they are already backordered for at least a month.. no new orders till the current log clears. Hope they work!

mouse has covered most of it. Be aware that most are delivered soaked in cosmoline grease. You'll need to clear it form the barrel, action, and gas tube before first use or you'll have a bad afternoon. The guns are typically very robust. Only common flaw will be a rusted or damaged gas tube. If yours fails to cycle correctly, tape the ends of the gas tube aound the sight block and receiver so as to seal it. See if the tape gets blown off quickly... if so, tube doesnt fit correctly. Its a defect I had with two I've put my hands on. Cheap and easy to resolve though.

Weird. v3bahumut got called in the same batch I did. Still on 'call' till the 7th of July.. only pulled one set in so far.

I told several of my friends where to go for their carry class.. was pretty much the first of the bunch to go through it. Mostly they just make fun of me for carrying pocket pistols instead of my sig 220...
-
Marlin 1894 is on my purchase list too (44 mag lever action). I'm hearing there can be a bit of a lag in getting them though.
-
A friend just went through this too. ended up with a 243 for his 7 year old... think it was one of the Rossi. Everyone seems happy so far, and his son does manage the recoil just fine. I don't think there is really much question to it..
-
another 17 hmr here... mines a marlin as well. whats not to like? accurate, no recoil, minimal barrel heating, good for past 100 yards. Ammo is a touch pricey but.. if you want anything much more than that, its time for a 22 hornet anyway. Only thing that annoys me is if your punching paper for groups, you probably need a spotting scope to see the holes..
-
I'd dump them out into ziplock bags, keep the top panel from the box for reference so you got the lot number and what not. Other advice: Get yourself some of the black-board spray paint or roll-on stuff. Pick a surface or two and hit the can with it.. use chalk to mark what you've got where and counts . It gets rather annoying when you've got a dozen cans and you don't have a clue what is where...

I've had good results with American eagle red box and the walmart federal bulk - packs. A bunch of others used to be good but kinda turned into trash in the last decade or so.. haven't had my hands on any of the wolf yet, but intend to try it.
