The Natural is like the revolver of the sports world. People with class and taste would choose it ;) The best scene in sports related movies is when Gene Hackman measures the distance from the rim to the floor in Hoosiers And any list without caddyshack in the top 3 is a tragedy
Those are the boot grips I was talking about - at a much better price than direct from NAA the last time I checked. As I said, I have never fired one with those on it but have held one or two and the grip feels nice and stable, not to mention they look great on the gun, IMO (better than the birds head grips, in fact.) Notice, though, that Tennjed's link is (as he mentioned in his post) for the 'Long Rifle only' version of the grips. If you have the magnum or combo version then it will require these: http://www.amazon.com/GBGM-Boot-Grip-Laminated-Wood/dp/B00162LR3A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1378829039&sr=8-3&keywords=NAA+Boot+Grip
I haven't gotten then in yet, should be in, in a day or two. I will post my opinions on them. I did something I don't usually do and bought them without every handling one in person. I do think that will be at least an improvement over the "birdshead" style that came on it. The 22lr only frame is so small, the grips on them now are too small

Do You work at a gun shop? Does family get a discount? You look an awful lot like my cousin

Apples to oranges. The double tap is MUCH larger than the NAAs. The double tap is actually bigger than many of the pocket 380s. It is 5.5" long (same length as my Sig P290 9mm). The Double Tap has no advantage I can see as a ccw weapon. It is slightly slimmer but not enough for the trade off in number if rounds. I like small guns and could see the appeal of the double tap as a novelty, but why would anyone choose it as a pocket gun? Double Tap Length 5.5" Height 3.9" Width .665" Weight 13-15oz LCP Length 5.16" Height 3.6" Width .80" Weight 9.4oz 6+1 380acp Kahr CM9 Length 5.4" Height 4.0 Width .90" Weight 14oz 6+1 9mm I would not choose 2 rounds of 45 over 6 rounds of 32,380,9mm, or 45. I would choose 5 rounds of 22mag over a pocket knife which is more of an accurate size comparison to the NAA

I apologize if this has been posted, I did not see it. Buds has listed a Blued (actually listed as Black DLC coated stainless) Ruger RSR1911. I do not see it listed on Ruger's website. It is listed as a Talo exclusive. Anyway $1,024.00 (In Stock at time of posting) Walnut engraved grips Gold Navy Seal Foundation Logo $100 donation to NSF for each one sold http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_49_75/products_id/714008190/Ruger+SR1911NSF+45ACP+BLKWD+8RD+NSF

I just ordered a set of boot grips for my 22lr to replace the "birdshead" style grips. Hope it gives a little more to hold onto

Thanks guys. I will be meeting the guy in a couple of days to look it over. It is stainless (high polish) but it has had the barrel bead blasted. He had a gun smith do it to keep the glare down. Sounds like a good idea, but the pics he sent me were crappy cell phone pics. Has anyone seen one done that way? I am afraid the high polished body may not look right with the bead blasted barrels.

I have a 22lr only and it is such a well built gun. I have my eye on a 22mag sidewinder with the swing out cylinder. Can't find one yet. I would have no problem dropping 5rds of 22 mag in my pocket. Again NAAs are really really we made guns

Thanks, yeah I have been wanting one for a while I am just a little nervous on feeding and extraction issues. A Internet search turns up mostly positive results but there are a fair number of complaints about feeding and extraction. Do most people that shoot them in cowboy action matches shoot reloads or factory? One day I plan on getting into that and that is one reason I want the rossi. I have one vaquero in 357 and will pick another one up soon
-
Anybody have any issues using reloads in a Rossi 357 lever action. I am looking to pick up one. It is a 24" with an octagon barrel. I reload 357 with lead cast RN, SWC, & wad cutters. I assume the wad cutters and semi wad cutters may give me feeding issues. Also it says 12 rd capacity. Will it hold more 38sp since they are shorter?

Unfinished laminate grips. What stain to use ?
Tennjed replied to Tennjed's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Those look nice, thanks for the tip. Does the wax have a color or tint to it or does it just heighten the current color of the wood? -
I bought what appears (and advertised) as unfinished laminate grips. I enjoy buying beat up and unfinished wood grips and bringing them to life. Typically use a typical Miniwax stain (yellow can) and Tung Oil for shine. I have never done laminate before. I was under the impression that laminate was the same color all the way through, but these look like un-stained hardwood. Here is a crappy cellphone pic My question is can I stain them? Should I use a different type if stain (gel? Water based ?) Anyone have any suggestions on color? I think I might want to go with the silver/black finish I see on lots of laminates or maybe the rosewood? I have some of miniwax Jacobean which I think might give it a good dark color but probably not the silver black I am looking for. Here is what I have now

Kinda kicking around the idea of picking up a CZ 97 or a Desert Eagle 45 acp. This is strictly a range toy and to scratch a itch (full size metal 45non 1911/p220 itch) Who here has experience with them. Reliable? Accurate?. I have held the Desert Eagle a few times and like the way it feels in the hand. I have never seen a CZ 97 in person, but have read that the CZ 97 is big, especially in the grip. Has anyone handled both? Are they comparable in size?

Wow Dmark. That no bark looks great with a blued gun. I think I have found my new project
-
They are wonderful, I think they may actually be spelled Holly instead of Holley, but anyway. Very close to ivory in looks and all wood. I wanted ivory, but couldn't afford it. I just couldn't bring myself to put plastic grips or imitation ivory, even though I am sure they are high quality. I wanted natural. Holly is perfect. Should age just like ivory too

I bought a pair of Stag grips for my Ruger Redhawk 45 colt off of an individual that was made by Grasshorn. Got them in and loved them. Contacted him and asked if he could make a pair for my Security Six that had similar bark. Got them in and WOW. Fit and quality are top notch. The bark is perfect and best of all he works quick. Here is big brother and little brother. (Redhawk 45 colt and Security Six 357). Might as well get a family pic with cousins Vaquero (45 colt and 357).
