  1. If it's the muzzle rise that bothers you, that's easy to fix. Just get a ported .38 snubbie like a Taurus 85 ported. I had a Titanium Taurus 85 that was ported and it was awesome (it was stolen unfortunately and I replaced it with the cheaper Taurus Ultra-Lite, not ported). My G23 is actually a 23c.....c is for compensated (ported). There is much less muzzle rise when shooting a ported gun....which makes it much easier to get back on target.
  2. Excellent Mousegunner! A must read for everyone on this site. Now.....if we could just get all 65,000,000 gun owners to read it and do it.
  3. To me, compared to a G23 or G27, the recoil is about the same if I shoot regular .38 loads in the snubbie.....however, if I shoot +p in the .38 it has a bit more recoil than the Glocks. I've shot Glock 9mm's before and I'd say that the recoil on the G26 would be a bit less than the .38. I am not at all recoil sensitive though. I could shoot anything and it wouldn't bother me. If the recoil bothers you with the regular .38 rounds, you could get the low recoil .38's that are specifically designed for a snubnose.....I'm planning on picking up some of those for my mother's snubbie. I'll check around for a good place to get them and post it here when I do. btw....I shot an older all steel frame .38 snubbie the other day and it had hardly ANY kick at all with regular .38 loads. But DANG! that thing is HEAVY! I would never want to carry it on me for any length of time.....unless it's winter and maybe put it in my coat pocket while I'm outside or something.
  4. Try this for shooting gloves: MidwayUSA
  5. And some are close to Nashville I believe.
  6. Hustle, I have a 23 and a 27. I had the 23 first and I also wanted a smaller auto handgun for daily carry, so I went with the 27. The 27 isn't all that much lighter than the 23 (I think ? about 3 oz.) but it is quite a bit smaller in length and height. One of our members did a very cool picture comparison between the G23 and G27 here: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14037 I have large hands too, I'm 5'10" and large framed. I have no problem at all handling the G27 with or without the mag extensions. Without the mag extension, my pinky curls under the grip nicely and feels good. The extensions give you an extra place for your pinky and also feels good, but they make the gun a little taller, which tends to affect the concealability factor a bit. As for recoil difference in the two.....not much difference at all. The 27 is a little bit snappier than the 23, but if you have large hands I really don't think you'd have a problem with it. Verbal is right about the lightweight .38 snubbies too....they are much easier to conceal and a lot lighter in weight than the Glocks. If you ever want to come down to the Morristown area, shoot me a pm. You are more than welcome to come over and shoot my G27, with and without the mag extensions....and my S&W 442 or Taurus 85 UL and see which one you like best....just BYOA (bring your own ammo ).
  7. I used to purse carry.....until I was the victim of a "two person distract & grab" scam. I lost my Taurus full titanium ported .38 :cry:along with an expensive digital camera, money, credit cards, checkbook, I.D.'s....everything. I've never carried in my purse since. A former U.S. Marshall once told me that all a gun in a purse is good for is to knock your attacker over the head with. He's right, and I wish I'd taken his advice then. Luckily, the people that stole my purse weren't out to hurt me. Most likely, if you're in a situation where you need to draw your weapon, if you have to take time to grab it out of your purse it will be too late. Tell you're wife/girlfriend? that purse carry is definitely not the way to go.
  8. I posted this in reply to this same post in the Women and Firearms section, but I'll post it here too: Well, I've never shot a 640, but I do have a 442, which is basically a black 642. If you're planning on carrying it all day, I can tell you that the weight does make a huge difference in comfort. 8 oz. may not seem like a lot.....until you've had it on for 10-12 hours or more. Believe me, you will feel the difference. The smaller size of the 642 will help it conceal better too. As far as recoil goes....I'd say the heavier gun would help absorb a little more felt recoil.....but personally I think that's a small sacrifice. You can always pick up some different grips that are softer and easier on the hand when shooting at the range....and you could wear a shooting glove which will help too. I wouldn't get your hopes up of finding a good deal on either gun at a gun show. From what I've heard lately, the gun show vendors are asking more for there guns than the local shops are. Go to BudsGunShop.com and check out their prices.....a good deal at any gun shop would be Bud's price plus the extra $25 that you'd have to pay for the ffl transfer. I believe you can get the 642's from most of our authorized vendors for $399.00, which is a very good price. Btw, Welcome to TGO!! We have a lot of good people here that are always eager to help with any questions that you have.....or just talk and share ideas, opinions, and information. Enjoy!

  21. That's awesome Crimson! Now you need to post a pic of your son shooting the rifle My boy will be four in a couple months and I plan on teaching him to shoot this spring/summer with a Red Ryder BB gun and then hopefully by fall I'll let him shoot a .22 rifle. I've got a Browning .22 lever action for him already.....but I just might pick up one like you got since it's smaller and would be easier for him to handle.
  22. JeffsSig, I was up in Tazewell last week at Mike's Gun Shop.....he's got a TON of 1911's....I saw a brand new Kimber Ultra Carry for less than $700.....and many others all reasonably priced. This guy has not inflated his prices AT ALL....not even on the Ak's he had left. I picked up a new toy there myself Phone # is 423-626-5300. Tazewell is not to far from you either. Nice shop, good people.
  23. SportmansGuide and AmmunitiontoGo are my favorites. Sportsmansguide is a little cheaper if you join the buyers club....and they can bill you in 4 monthly payments instead of all at once....a nice perk of joining the club.
  24. I love Glocks too, but I've been shooting since I was 4 yrs. old, and shooting Glocks for almost 20 years now. I just wouldn't recommend a Glock, or any semi-auto for that matter, to an inexperienced shooter. Too many things can go wrong. That being said.....if she really likes the Glocks and does get one.....just make sure that she fires a few hundred rounds through the gun to really get the feel of it......and learns how to clear jams and field strip and clean the gun herself.
  25. It's in Tazewell in eastern TN, about 40 minutes northwest of Morristown. Their phone number is 423-626-5300. Very nice shop, friendly people, and a pretty large selection....and good prices.
