  1. Wow I didn't mean to cause such heated arguments over this I just got the email and thought you guys might be interested in it. I promise I will never post anything like that again unless I know for sure it is accurate and factual. We pro gunners need to stick together and I absolutely agree that we also need to stick to the facts But.....what about the information in the email other than the Austrailia stats?? Anyone disagree with anything else (or have anything to add maybe)?
  2. np Dixie My mom does that with her purse too.......definitely a deterrent and a good idea.......But having your gun inside your purse is not. Sometimes seconds count and if you have your gun on your person it will be much faster to get to and use if need be. Of course, that's just my opinion
  3. Thanks Guns Gun safety is very important anytime but especially when there are kids around.
  4. Not a problem Dixie:)....Since I was 12 years old, I have been able to sleep with a loaded handgun on my nightstand. Easy access if someone breaks in right? Well, at 36 years old, I had a son. Once he started standing and walking, a loaded gun on the nightstand was no longer an option for me. So now that I have a baby, there's even a bigger reason to have fast access to a loaded gun.....it's not just my life I'm protecting now, it's my son's. So......the safest way for me to have fast access to a gun if needed is to have it on me 24/7. I used to keep it in my purse occasionally when my son was younger and depending on where I was......then one day in the Walmart parking lot my purse was stolen (with my gun in it) out of the shopping cart as I was loading groceries into the trunk. A car pulled up and a guy got out of the passenger side and came over to ask me for directions.....then the girl that was driving asked me a question to distract me, and that's when the guy grabbed my purse. I turned back around to finish loading the car, they pulled away, and I didn't miss my purse until they were long gone. That incident put an end to ever carrying a gun anywhere but on my person. They caught the couple at least and eventually my gun turned up.....on a guy that was arrested for a shooting (no one was hurt thankfully)......and the police are still holding it for evidence. Sooooooooo............that is why I carry my gun 24/7.
  5. Tower, thanks for the offer but I don't get out that way very often. I have 34 acres here that I can shoot on and I hardly get the chance these days My three year old, my aging mother, and this farm is like having three full time jobs. My son is too young right now to take shooting and I don't have a babysitter. I wish I could come out and shoot....maybe in a couple years when he's older and starts school I can have some time for myself again. That's a big reason I joined this forum.....since I don't get to shoot much right now, at least I can read and talk about it to get my fix ;)
  6. I have a 23c with three 15rd mags along with a couple 10rds. The 15's work great and they're actually easier to load for some reason......it's like the springs in the 10's are stiffer or something
  7. Let's see.....so far only three female members besides myself have posted here. We've got Redhead 1911, TNDixieGirl, and Bastet. There's got to be some more of us on here! Come on girls, chime in and let us know your here!
  8. Sorry guys, I got this in an email from my brother (who is also into guns and gun rights)......I just assumed it was correct and I thought it was pretty cool. I suppose I should never assume anything. If any of you would like to post the correct stats that would be excellent Well...I just read the Snopes link about the Australian gun ban and am not too impressed.......It makes me wonder if the writers at Snopes are Anti gun????? That's just my
  9. Wow.....I figured more of you guys would have known Leo
  10. Hey Redhead, I carry a Taurus Ultra-Lite 38......it's a multialloy, 5 shot, super lightweight revolver and it is AWESOME! I carry it on me 24/7.....only take it off to shower....even sleep with it on (I'm not kidding). I use one of those elastic belly bands.....I hardly know it's there. It is the ultimate in concealed carry. I would rather have a gun with five shots that I can carry constantly and comfortably than one that holds more rounds that I don't feel as comfortable with anyday. The Taurus can handle +p loads and it's cheap at only about $350. You should check them out
  11. That's funny! I live in the hills pretty far from any town.......it takes the police 40 to 60 minutes to respond to anything out here. If we're not prepared to defend ourselves we're in serious trouble because calling 911 is a joke!

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated ------------------------------ Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ Uganda established gun control in 1970. >From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------------- Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million. ------------------------------ It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in: List of 7 items: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note, that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns! While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDER LY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it. ----------------------------- Washington D.C. has the most gun control laws and one of the highest gun related murder rates in the country. They also do not have the death penalty. Texas has the least gun control laws and one of the lowest gun related murder rates in the nation, they also have an express lane to the electric chair. You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
  13. All I can say is I'm glad I have a boy instead of a girl
  14. Target, I've been shooting guns of all shapes and sizes since I was 4 years old so that means I've been shooting guns 12 years longer than you've been alive My son WILL start with a red ryder...probably this summer. Then after we learn the basics with that, we will move up to a .22 rifle with a scope, probably by next summer. Then, at five years old, he will learn to shoot a handgun.....which will be a .22. What's the matter Target? Didn't you get to start shooting REAL GUNS until you were in your teens? I think that you should base when to let your children shoot real guns on their maturity level......so maybe you got a late start in that department ehhh?
  15. Hey guys.....maybe you can help me decide which pistol I should buy for my little boy. I want to get him a .22 for his first handgun. I have a couple years before he's ready for one since he's only three now......but I'd like to know which model might be good for a boys first pistol? Ruger maybe? What do you think? That Sig looks nice.....but I'd like something with a longer barrel I think....a little more long range accuracy maybe? But I also want dependability too....not a gun that jams all the time. I used to have a beautiful Colt Woodman from the 40's that my dad gave me......that gun would have been perfect for him, but my home burned down in 1995 and I lost that gun along with a Glock 17, two shotguns, and a Winchester Model 94 .22 rifle...oh, and my dad's 1970's Bear Recurve bow (just like the one they have in the movie Deliverance)
  16. Raising my 3 yr. old, fishing, shooting, hunting, hiking, taking care of my animals......nine dogs, two cats, two arabian horses, and a smelly old goat (no, I'm not talking about my husband )
