The innapropriate night-time door knock...
PackinMama replied to dkd83's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Hey Guys, Is it legal to shoot someone standing on the outside of your door? -
Mars, I bought my first Glock back in 1990. I had never heard of them when I went into the gun shop to buy a handgun, and back then they weren't even that popular with the police yet. I fell in love with the look and feel of it....along with it's ease of use and simple breakdown. I didn't buy it to be cool, like the cops I put well over 10,000 rounds through that G17, with mostly the cheapest ammo I could find, with not ONE problem. Previous to that, I'd had several different auto handguns, shotguns, and rifles jam and fail on me......and even one of my trusted revolvers. The Glock is truly perfection.....dependable, durable, beautiful, functional, lightweight, and straight shootin' right out of the box. I suspect this is why most cops trust them with their lives every day. I also suspect that is the same reason the majority of civilians buy Glocks for self defense purposes.....they want a gun that they can truly trust with their lives.

When I carry one of my Glocks, they are chambered and ready to fire. I've recently been looking at those trigger safety devices called "Saf-T-Bloks"......anyone on here have any experience with using these on their Glocks? There's also a special trigger you can get with a push button safety built right into the trigger......anybody know anything about these?

Welcome to TGO! You have good taste! I have a G23 and G27 too.

I would definitely not turn in my guns. I have 34 acres here and my guns would find a safe place to hide

Calling 911 on Verizon Phone May Be Dangerous
PackinMama replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
Looneeetunes, I have to ask, did you ever catch the thief? If I were you I'd get a rottweiler or a german shepherd (or both!). I count on my dogs to warn me if someone comes around.....they're even better than an alarm system! -
Remington Golden Saber Bonded 180 gr. in G27?
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Great! Thanks Guys! These weren't cheap and I second guessed my decision after I placed the order (I ordered 150 rounds)......but now I feel better about my choice. I'm going to shoot two mags full when I get them and I figure if I can get all rounds into the "kill zone" at 15 yds. I'll be good to go. Hopefully they'll be just like the Hyrashoks I purchased when I got my G23.....still unused after 10 years! Carrying a gun is just like having insurance......you hope you never need to use it, but you'll be happy you had it if you do -
Hey Guys, I just ordered some Remington Golden Saber Bonded 180 gr. JHP's for carrying in my Glock 27. I have mainly used Federal Hyrdashoks in the past, but I've heard some good things about these Remingtons. I shoot 180 gr. for practice so I thought I'd order the same grain. Do you guys think this is a suitable self defense round? I see a lot of you using lower grain ammo and I was just wondering if I made a good choice. Would appreciate any feedback.

Failure to Feed in Glock 27 - please help
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Looking back and thinking about what happened......I do think that my thumb probably hit the slide stop the first time it happened....since it happened that time on the last round in the magazine. But......the second time I'm not sure about. The slide was locked back, I inserted a mag with three rounds in it, hit the slide stop lever, and the slide didn't move forward/feed. I pulled it back and let go and it fed. I went out yesterday and shot 50 rds. with no problems at all. I was very aware of my thumb placement and I "slingshoted" the slide when I loaded a new mag. I'm hoping that between watching my thumb and "slingshotting" that I won't have any more problems. 50-100 more flawless rounds and this "baby" will be my new carry gun. Thanks Everyone! -
Failure to Feed in Glock 27 - please help

Thank You Urse! -
I got out of state deer hunting permits for Illinois twice a few years ago. Out of state people can bring guns into the state legally, without a FOID. When you are transporting a gun in IL, it must be unloaded and in a case and the ammunition has to be in another part of the vehicle...away from the gun......I would keep the gun cased in the trunk and the ammo in the back seat. I know having a gun for hunting with an out of state permit is legal......and transporting a gun is legal......but as far as just shooting a gun there, I'm not sure about.

Failure to Feed in Glock 27 - please help
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I disassembled and checked my mags last night without a problem and all looked good. Rabbi, I already have a G23......I wanted the smaller one to carry. I personally don't feel that I was "limpwristing,"......I have been shooting all types of handguns for a long time.....but I have never shot the subcompact Glocks until now. My hands are not small at all, so the more I think about it.........the first time, I believe when it locked back before the last bullet was fed that I could have accidentally hit the slide stop lever with my thumb. The second time, the slide was locked back and I put a mag with only three rounds in, then I pressed the slide lock lever and it didn't feed.....I had to pull the slide back and let go to get it to feed. The guy at Coal Creek said to not do this and to always use the "slingshot" method. I will try using this method today (if it doesn't rain)....and I'm also going to watch my thumb and "lock" it down with my other thumb when I shoot. Hopefully this will solve the problem. But....I do think I will replace those mag followers.....when I looked at them last night.....I noticed that one stuck up in the front just about a millimeter or so higher than the other one. It looks a little funny to me. -

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago......left to come here with my parents (who were born and raised in WVA) in 1990. I absolutely hated Illinois and am so glad to be here now. I carried often in IL even though it wasn't legal.....luckily I never had to use my weapon, or I imagine I would have been in some serious legal trouble (I always figured better legal trouble than dead). I wonder what would have happened if say a teacher at N IL U were carrying (illegally) when that shooter started firing and took him out? I bet those people in IL are so screwed up that they would charge the teacher with murder.......I believe that here in TN, even though it's not legal to carry at school, that teacher would have been "excused" for the illegal carry and patted on the back for taking the shooter out. I think the people in IL are so far gone there's nothing we'll ever be able to do to change their minds....but I know we have to keep trying Anyway....going to the poll right now.

Failure to Feed in Glock 27 - please help
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Ok, here's the latest on this issue. I took my G27 to Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville today and had it cleaned and inspected by a Glock Armorer. He said the gun looked great with no problems at all. He did not seem to think the magazines, extensions, or the mag followers were the issue, and he said the mag springs were fine. He said what several of you have said already......probably either limp wristing or my thumb accidentally hitting/bumping the slide stop lever. He also said that when I put in a fresh magazine with the slide locked back, that I shouldn't press the slide stop lever to chamber the round......I should "slingshot" the slide by pulling back all the way and letting go. I have always used the previous method in both my Glock 17 and my Glock 23 with no problems ever.......but maybe with this smaller gun it's different? I brought up the question of whether to replace the mag followers and he said he thought they were fine. So, I think I will try (and hope I don't screw up ) to disassemble the mags to see if that smaller baseplate is in there...and clean them while I am at it. Then I will just go put some more rounds through it and see what happens. If I still have a problem, I will wait and try the new mags I ordered and see if that makes a difference. Thanks to everyone for the input!
