I'll be there if I can... I just checked and have an exam that night for a night-class which I am attending.

I have taken the opportunity to import the significance of many of the powerful statements in the movie from their historical background, to anyone I converse with about the movie... It has really been quite fulfilling to bring it into perspective to some people who otherwise would not have looked for any deeper meaning. Just because of those kind of opportunities, this movie is great. It may not build awareness, in and of itself, but it opens the door for relevant discussion.

Agreed. A more realistic scenario would be to have someone load your magazine with a random # of rounds above a dummy round, with a few more live rounds below... Total of 6 live rounds in the first mag, 4 in the spare. The shooter must engage both targets with all 10 rounds between both mags, clearing the random stoppage in the first mag before continuing and reloading. That kind of thing is good practice.

I see it took longer for me to reply than Mars & Saints

I don't presume to answer for Mars, but I don't believe that the issue is whether or not 'training' in-and-of itself is glorified or demonized... The perception that I get is that there is an egotistical posture which differentiates between non-military individuals who pursue 'tactical' training, as opposed to 'defensive' training... So, is it wrong to question the motives or backgrounds of those who solicit money for such things, when they consistently dismiss or disparage anything which does not conform to their opinion or point of view? Open skepticism and is not about attacking another person's ideas or lively-hood... it is about making sure that all points of view are intelligently considered. And while none are necessarily wrong, they still should be weighed when considering their application to individual situations. Mars has previously addressed several points of your questions in other threads... And is quite qualified to state his opinion with validity. Not that anyone's opinion is any more or less valid than others, on an internet forum. What's wrong with hearing both sides of an issue?

Just did a few 'dry runs' of what you describe, with a stop-watch... Between 7 & 8 seconds. I think that's a pretty realistic.

New Assault Weapons Ban. Listen up!
molonlabetn replied to Punisher84's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm not especially worried about this bill getting through, there isn't enough support for it at this time. They have failed to re-implement the AWB for the past 3 years... I'm far more apprehensive about the content of the legislation which will be pushed after the next election... -
It is. Don't vote.

I'm not much for bumper-stickers... and I don't wear ball-caps unless I'm working under a car. I'd buy a t-shirt or two though! Collared/Polo shirts would be even better... CafePress.com is pretty reasonable.

Just saw the late show in Tullahoma... I won't ruin it for anybody, but... EXCELLENT!!! Even better than I had anticipated... It stayed very true to the spirit of the story, while providing some very entertaining embellishment. Defenitely a MUST SEE! I'll withhold my criticisms until I've seen it a few more times...

Well, most of his posts merely consisted of bad language... It was the private messages which he sent a few posters (including me) from his various accounts which were simply full of abusive insults. I deleted them, but they weren't worth repeating either... Here is a link to his posting history. Most of it rather amusing... http://www.packing.org/community/author/?author=46686

This is now my back-ground on my computer.

http://stevespages.com/page8f380acp.html http://stevespages.com/page8f40sw.html There are some good comparisons of how the bullets hold up in water (not so much for determining effectiveness as simple relative comparison) I've never used Mag-tech... I've never heard anything good or bad about them though.

my $.02 .357 Sig & 10x25mm Norma-Auto have the best external ballistics of the common pistol cartridges, in their respective bore sizes... They are more expensive and less available, commercially, That's nothing which can't be overcome by reloading one's own practice ammo. When it comes down to it... reloading .357sig isn't significantly more expensive than 9mm, if you re-use your brass a few times. And has far more potential, performance-wise. Same for .357 magnum... overall balance & performance is hard to beat amongst the rimmed defensive calibers. .45 ACP has it's place (and is quite effective)... but IMHO .45 Super and .45 GAP are far more efficient at using their respective case volumes. ACP is popular because it has been around for so long, not because it is the pinnacle of performance in it's case or bore-size. Just like .45 LC has been eclipsed by higher-pressure rimmed cases for serious work, in recent years.

Suppressing a .500 S&W in a revolver would likely result in rapid gas-cutting of the top-strap through the cylinder gap... Plus, considering the required size of the suppressor bore, I doubt that doing this would be very effective to reducing the noise of the weapon discharging without a ridiculously large suppressor ran wet. As to the author... he/she/it is a troll. Started off with ridiculous humor, and then steadily got more abusive and insulting.

The closest I'll get to come, is Knoxville during the 1st/2nd full weekend in April... but that's the wrong date, and the wrong city. Oh well.

Not to say that it couldn't happen... but does anybody know of any instance where a private citizen was targetted first during a robbery, etc because they were openly carrying a firearm? I haven't... but if I missed it, I would like to read what happened. There are some situations in which it is indeed prudent for your weapon to not be visible... Simple common-sense. But, then again, not every technique works the way one would assume, in every situation. Just like preferences in caliber, ammo, and firearm... overkill to one person, is the best solution to the problem at-hand, for another.

Yeah... I caught that. That must've been embarrassing! Great show! I watch it whenever I can...

Ya' know what sucks... I gotta work tomorrow night when this movie opens Now I have to wait until Saturday...

Excellent comparison db! That pretty much sums it up...

My wife 'encourages' me to participate in healthy eating habits with her (voluntarily or course)... I open my lunch most days to find a can of Slim-Fast, some form of fruit, and a sandwich (Organic Peanut Butter on Whole Wheat Bread)... sigh. But, hey... whatever I gotta do to keep her motivated to stay in-shape, right?

The only place, I read above, those terms to be used are as descriptions of how they might be viewed by women... Why ask a question and take the responses so personally? I'm sure they were meant constructively.

I think the confusion which comes into play when talking about 'uber-tactical' training, is that many of those particular skills focus on assault tactics and gear which the average person would not have available, or would be superfluous, when confronted by a goblin on a street-corner. True DEFENSIVE training (which is what the OP was referring to), involves honing your awareness, wit, and confidence in both your body and your CCW. Tac-vest, Camel-Bak and thigh-holster not required. Combat training is best applied when one is committed to using their skills to consciously and knowingly put themselves in harms-way for a specific purpose. People who look at it like it's a game, and get all pumped up with the 'cool-factor', while not truly committed to facing the real thing with the same determination, are setting themselves (and those who depend on them) up for failure. Combat is not 'fun'... especially when your buddies die. The grave nature of para-military training should not be taken so lightly. But call it what it is. It is either preparation for combative resistance in your own neighborhood against occupying military forces... or it is a HOBBY.
