  1. It depends. On my previous 1911's, I just stuck it right in. But on my current Colt, I have to use another object to line it up before I can re-insert the slide stop.
  2. I think authorized weapons refers to armed security guards. I work at a hospital and am also in graduate school. I'm not sure if my hospital is posted or not, but company policy prohibits employees from carrying...I'm pretty much always unarmed because my car is almost always either at school or at the hospital at some point in the day and even keeping guns in the car is illegal...I agree with the people that said banning guns is probably a better solution. It is so aggravating with all of these regulations prohibiting students, teachers, government employees, and healthcare professionals from exercising their freedoms! On another note, last year some crazy person walked into our hospital and said he was going to go back out to his car and bring his shotgun...people panicked, there are only TWO armed guards on duty, and neither was near the suspect. After he exited the building, security was notified and the hospital was placed on lockdown and the TWO guards started patrolling the halls and entrances....did I feel safe? Heck no. Armed guards aren't trained police or military and I certainly didn't feel confident that TWO guards could possibly stop a CRAZY person from busting into any of the many entrances and shooting up patients and staff. /end rant lol
  3. Federal 230gr HST in mines as well when I had it
  4. Goat is most like lamb to me. Fairly strong flavor but when it is prepared the Mexican way, I find it to be pretty tasty. Though I wouldn't eat it every day though. But I've introduced a lot of friends to goat meat at a local Mex restaurant and all of them have loved it.
  5. I saw dog jerky for sale at a small convenient store in China when I was there this past summer. My mom has eaten dog and she said it was pretty good. She grew up on a farm in Hong Kong. I don't recall if it was in HK that she had it or if she had it on the mainland...and yes I'm Chinese and I have no problem with eating dog meat. Meat is meat!
  6. I was considering their new rifle but I ended up buying a Daniel Defense from them instead during Black Friday (saved over $200). Comes in tomorrow....but for custom rifles I definitely recommend MSTN, a local builder in Memphis. I can let you handle my latest rifle built by them if you'd like. Its a precision rifle....but if you're wanting to handle something closer to the RA Urban rifle, my Daniel Defense weighs the same and can give you an idea of how the RA would handle.
  7. Change your search to .223 and you'll find what you are looking for. Federal, Hornady, Prvi Partizan, etc., all make them. As far as necessity in anti-personnel ammunition, terminal ballistics in a round such as the .223/5.56 are different than say something like a .45 ACP. You want HP in handgun ammo to deliver the impact to stop or knockdown due to expansion. In smaller caliber rifle rounds, the damage is done through fragmentation and tumbling and also from impact of the high velocity round. Probably not the most scientific explanation, but hopefully it makes some sense haha.
  8. Something else worth mentioning is perhaps deciding if you want the carbine or the mid-length gas system. The original link posted was for the carbine gas but 16" barrels function "better" with mid-length gas systems. Without going into dwell time and whatnot, the mid-length gas essentially smooths out the recoil. Follow-up shots, bump-firing, etc., have a pretty different feel to them when shooting on a carbine vs mid-length gas on a 16" barrel. Just something to consider.
  9. The boy scouts say "Be Prepared" and Murphy's Law says "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong"...so with those adage's in mind, I think we should assume that no matter what the situation, if a firearm was discharged within the home, especially if it results in the injury of another, it will be confiscated. Being as such, always have backup weapons for defense. But I'm with the guy that said he would be concerned about the fact that he just killed someone...I'm a civilian and no matter how much I mentally prepare myself for it, I'm pretty sure if it ever came down to me drawing and firing on an individual, my first thought would be "OMG I JUST SHOT/KILLED SOMEONE!!!" and not "OMG THE COPS ARE GONNA TAKE MY FN SLP!!!!11!!!"
  10. You are correct about the 16". That length refers to barrel itself, not including the muzzle device length. Does your light not need a rail to mount on? I don't think there is anywhere for a direct mount or rail attachment on the stock handguards. As far as long range precision goes, I'd recommend not only the FF rails, but invest in a nice scope and a new barrel as well. The 3 of them together will make the biggest difference in long range precision (ammo and technique aside). *Edit - the guy above me beat me to it about the handguards. Yes get the Magpul MOE. I just received one myself.
  11. What do the lawyers on the board say? I guess that would be a better source of information.
  12. In my HCP class somebody asked a similar question. Basically, unless your car is completely immobilized, it is more than likely unjustifiable to use deadly force. You would have a tough time defending yourself in court because the first question that would get asked would be "why didn't you just honk the horn and drive off?"
  13. I just bought the Primary Arms Micro Dot for my home defense rifle and also the Primary Arms Green Dot Reflex for whenever I can bear to pony up the funds for a Nightforce scope on my precision rifle to attach it to. Hopefully these inexpensive optics are alright
  14. I need some more ammo cans and am wondering if anyone in Memphis knows of any stores that carry .30 or .50 ammo cans. My other alternative is to order some from SGAmmo.com since they have good prices but if its local, that would be more convenient.
  15. I have the first AK in that picture (M10-762). I haven't shot it yet but it appears to be pretty solid. Front sight post is straight from what I can tell (many of the other types of AK's have canted sights)...I agree with everyone here that Century sucks. I have no personal experience with them but the internet has an overwhelming big thumbs down for Century. That's a big enough red flag to avoid like the plague.

Yea you are right, the UltraMatch are the Shilen blanks. I was thinking of the Match barrels that RA sells, which are the Wilson blanks.

    AR-15 upper

@gunmutt - White Oak and Rainier Arms are pretty much identical barrels with the exception of the twist rate. WOA uses Wilson blanks in 1/7 twist and RA uses Wilson blanks in 1/8 twist. Also keep in mind that both are in the Wylde .223 chambering, which isn't exactly Remington .223 and isn't exactly NATO 5.56.

I'd go with either the 18" or 16" barrel in 1/7" or 1/8" twist. For match shooting, faster twist rate stabilizes the heavier match rounds better. Noveske 1/7" barrels are used on many of the top competitor guns. Of course you don't have to use Noveske since from your choices it seems that you are on a budget. But 18" 1/7 would serve you well or 16" 1/7 (make sure you get mid length gas tube, not carbine length) would work as well if weight is a concern. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-BFH-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Light-Weight-p/bcm-urg-mid-16lw%20bfh%20vtrx11.htm http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-SS410-18-Rifle-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-18%20ss410%20vtrx13.htm Those two are probably the best options for you that are relatively inexpensive but very high quality. They are also easily resellable as well. If you want to spend more and get a truly custom build, I recommend contacting wes@mstn.biz to see what he can do for you. My current 16" build is from him. He's located in Memphis but pretty much sells custom rifles to people all over the country including many .mil's. Extremely, extremely, nice man and very knowledgeable and helpful.
  19. Man if they were poaching 100 yards from your house then they can poach YOU from that same distance. Maybe you can contact somebody above the level of the local police, because heaven-forbid you or anyone living near you get hit by strays.
  20. You won't believe how many obvious meth-heads come into the pharmacies here to buy ingredients. And they are so dumb too, sending in their buddies one at a time (when you can clearly see all of them pull up in the same car) to buy bulks of sudafed. Others go to the counter to check out, with a cart of pretty much all the necessary ingredients for cooking meth. They are promptly escorted to the door....doesn't surprise me people check for ID on lithium battery sales...its always the dumb people that forces management or policy makers to enact stupid but necessary rules.
  21. Cool I'll look into Desoto and Jackson clubs...for any interested, the first year for TSF in Jackson is $125 ($50 for initiation and $75 for annual fee). In both clubs, one needs to be a member of the NRA.
