  1.   I've heard a lot of good things about those two places as well. I'll need to hit those up sometime.
  2. I'm disappointed by most BBQ places in Memphis. The worst thing about it, is that they lack of consistency.    I've you're not opposed to driving, Memphis BBQ Co in Southaven (not too far of a drive from downtown Memphis) has been good the last couple of times I've gone. Everyone I've referred there has enjoyed it. I really like their wet ribs (the dry ribs are usually way too dry) and pulled pork. The chicken and beef brisket are so-so. If you like pork rinds, they give you free pork rinds instead of free bread, and the rinds are delicious.   If you're looking for downtown, there's a place I've always walked by, but never tried, that some of my friends say is very good. Its called the Double J Saloon and it always smells amazing whenever I walk by at night (they have a smoker behind the restaurant).    Let us know where you end up going, because I'm sure others would like to know where you got some good Memphis BBQ as well (and please stay away from Rendezvous and Corky's....Rendezvous is a tourist spot and has horrible BBQ everytime I've gone for some event, and Corky's has the history but their BBQ has been going downhill for over a decade and kinda just continues to get business because of its name and marketing, not because it is the best around here)
  3. I punched through a golfball on a stick with a 9mm. Funny thing is, is that its a Wilson ball too lol (Wilson Ultra - and I still have it)
  4. I don't think you can make it work without the handguard cap because it is held in place by tension between the two. Otherwise you would be able to pull it right off.
  5. I've got the Tactical Industries AR .22lr conversion BCG with BDM mags. So far, it has worked well. The reason I went with the conversion instead of buying a dedicated .22lr upper/rifle, is because there is greater utility in practicing with your actual rifle, with all of your accessories, etc. instead of practicing on another rifle that is nothing like your primary rifle. Unless of course, you were a baller and actually used all of the same rails, lights, optics, stocks, grips, etc. on your dedicated .22lr rifle as whatever your main rifles are. Plus if you were to use your rifle to train in a class, you could just swap out bolts when you feel like conserving full load ammo for part of the session, and then switching back.   http://www.targetmasterconversions.com/
  6. The 1911sc is a nice gun (never shot one but per reviews and my experience with the other s&w's, seems to be a great gun).   Another option for a lower price point is the Ruger SR1911. Everyone I've talked to and read says it is a solid 1911. An upgrade from the SA 1911 GI for sure, and won't break the bank.   To be honest, if I'm going to be spending ~1500 for a 1911, I'd rather just spend more and either get a custom built or a Nighthawk. The mid-range 1911's I've owned from most of the major manufacturers just always seem to never leave me 100% satisfied. I'd rather either spend more for 100% of the features I want, or spend less and get a solid gun I can depend on that isn't 100% what I want, but I'm 100% satisfied with because of what I get for what I paid.   That being said, check out the lesse expensive SR1911 and compare and see what you like. Or check out something a little more expensive that you don't have to customize and see what you'd like (Nighthawk, Wilson Combat, etc.)
  7. Just randomly browsed and saw this. I hope they remove the restriction. Would like to finally be able to finally carry some more substantial blades.
  8. I am liking 3.5...although like someone above said, what about the loose ends like the deer carcass person who never resurfaced (unless they are already dead?) and the truck driver (who appeared to be a girl) popped off some shots and then ran off into the prison.
  9. I've had them both, as well as the TA01-NSN and much prefer the TA33G-H. Its the only ACOG I still have left and use. The reason I prefer, is that for my limited shooting distances, I feel that the 3x is the fastest for CQB out to about 100 yards. It has the BDC on there, so you can use it out to 400 yards or so, but beyond 100, I just personally prefer a scope. I feel that the 1.5x is actually slower for CQB than an unmagnified optic like Aimpoint or EOTech, because of the eye relief. The eye relief on the 3x is more forgiving for me (I think the TA33 actually has a shorter eye relief than the TA44, but for some reason I'm able to sight in better on the TA33. I know it makes no sense haha), an the magnification is not so much that you cannot use it at short distances, and is enough that you can also use it at longer distances as well.   These are just my personal opinions based on range use. I have never shot beyond 100 yards and have never been in combat nor been to a carbine class, so I cannot comment for those settings.   IMO, for optic choices, either go with an unmagnified red dot, the 3x TA33 (I love the green horseshoe reticle), or go with a variable magnification scope. Anything in between just doesn't seem to work well for me personally, and since you are comparing the 3 ACOG's I have also personally compared when I bought them all, I have a feeling you may like the TA33 the best out of those as well.
  10. I have one and took it to the range once. It shot alright. Good for practice since cheap ammo, but my main gripe is that it is too light. They should have weighted it to make it as close to a loaded m&p9 as possible so that practice is as "realistic" as possible.
  11. I'm not understanding the threaded barrel part. I'm guessing this means you can't thread on muzzle devices...but doesn't that effectively "ban" suppressors since you will no longer have a way to attach them?
  12. How long does this promotion last? Do you know if it will be available, say, next year, when I'm up for renewal?
  13. Just got my DD upper today. Ordered on 12/31, received 1/16. DD is doing really well with keeping close to their 10-15 day build time.
  14. I don't have any complete Noveske rifles, but I do have two builds with Noveske barrels (an N4 and an SS match). The barrels are awesome, particularly the SS match barrel. Its good to know that behind the great barrels, is a great company, staff, and founder.
  15. So if its a conspiracy...what would the desired result be? A ploy organized to give further ammunition to ban guns? Or what.
  16. I agree with the guy above on learning how to run the gun. Definitely go to the range and practice reloading (can be done at home with dummies) and on how to manage the recoil, especially if you haven't shot it before. Sidesaddles won't do you any good if you can't efficiently reload (watch some youtube videos of competition shooters doing speed reloads with their pumps. Gives you an idea of different techniques). Also, although you'd hope you won't have to shoot more than once, being able to quickly make a followup shot is important too. So knowing how much the recoil will affect your body is important. You can practice with birdshot but also do a little practice with your defense buckshot (the recoil is greater in the buckshot).   Remember to keep the stock tight against your body. I see many people make the error of not keeping it tight and then complaining that their shoulders hurt. This is due to the gun slamming into their body, instead of pushing with the body. Also, if the buckshot has too much of a recoil for you to handle (maybe not an issue since you said you are portly), you can try using low recoil buckshot. I use Remington Ranger low-recoil 00-buckshot since I'm a tiny Asian haha.
  17. Lots of interesting perspectives, including the article from Massad.   Dolomite - What 9mm carbine are you using? I've toyed with the idea of getting one, but never really researched into it.
  18. Do you guys consider the ability or disability to hear when selecting your "go-to" weapon for home defense? I've been going back and forth about whether a handgun, shotgun, or .22lr converted rifle would be the ideal weapon for home defense. When shooting indoors, I think that the ability to hear is a pretty valuable asset. Many people argue that stopping power is king, but if you are temporarily deafened by shooting your unsuppressed AR inside a hallway or small room, how are you going to be able to hear other intruders or efficiently locate your loved ones who may be in hiding?   Is this flawed thinking? For those that have shot at intruders inside your home or have been in shoot house training without earpro, what are your thoughts?
  19. For some brick and mortar stores, prices differ from their online counterparts, not only because of overhead differences, but because they are registered and operate as separate businesses. That is why some web stores will say "Internet price only" or something to that effect. Although it is the same name and more than likely same owner(s), on paper, they operate differently.
  20. Surefire Sonic Defender EarPro. They are in-ear plugs but fit perfectly, are unobtrusive, and block sound. Also they are inexpensive (I usually buy from eBay)   http://www.surefire.com/tactical-equipment/earpro-products.html that is their full lineup.
  21. The reporters on the Communist News Network already spun it as a bad thing. I thought they were supposed to be unbiased but all 3 of them had such a sarcastic mocking tone. They were clearly anti-gun...arming the good guys is the only way to stop armed bad guys. Bad guys are going to be able to get arms no matter what. I live near the hood and I can get a trunkload of illegal weapons at the drop of a hat. Any laws banning guns only hurts the good guys.
  22. I ordered mags and some shipped today too. The others are "waiting for stock". So they are working and shipping. No need to freak out guys, lol.
  23. Yeager's response to CTD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWR2Y_NBsOQ   I know many don't like him but he makes a point that gun people turning on gun people is a betrayal and that practices like what CTD is doing, not only in their cessation of firearms sales, but their hyperinflation of items like PMags, is criminal. Boycott with your wallet.   I'm equally upset over people on ar15.com doing the same thing. People jacking up the prices of BCG's, PMag's, etc., to take advantage of one another. This is not about investment or about smart purchasing, but its about taking advantage of people, which is a travesty.
  24. I've carried 1911's, and M&P's of various sizes. I just recently switched to carrying a J-Frame (S&W 36). It is definitely by far my preferred method of carry when comfort and concealment (with regards to level of activity and clothing) are a priority. I do carry my full size guns when I'm able but the J-Frame fits the bill for normal every day carry.
  25. I've used Botach a lot, so I can't see them doing that. It could be that they have technical issues because of the influx of customers. I've seen a lot of websites that have less robust systems have issues with their servers, they might be one of them. I placed 2 orders with them during this panic so I hope they didn't just take my money and run lol. I've been buying from them for a couple years with NO problems.
