Does anyone have proof that the decision to allow gay boys to openly participate in Scouts was based on financial reasons? While I do remember reading that some donors have decided to stop funding the BSA due to their stance, I don't know the actual numbers. Assuming the dollars lost were significant enough to cause concern, I'm wondering why I don't recall seeing some sort of campaign on behalf of the BSA to raise funds to make up the difference. If this issue is truly as important as it appears here on TGO, I'm wondering why more people didn't put their money where their mouth is. Does the BSA have a surplus of money at the end of each year, or are they barely scraping by? The reason I ask is, I wonder if this decision was made out of necessity. If they chose to continue denying openly gay Scouts, would they lose so much funding that they could no longer operate? Would a better option have been to simply dissolve the organization due to lack of funding? Was there this much controversy from the BSA supporters in the mid-1970's, when the BSA finally did away with racial segregation? I recall reading that it took a court battle before the BSA would finally recognize black boy scouts as equals. How about when they finally allowed women to become leaders innate late-80's? I was in the Scouts at this time, and I clearly remember this being a very hot and much-debated topic. The point is, the BSA has evolved with the times, and in order to survive, they will have no choice but to continue doing so. I'm sure there were detractors when they allowed blacks and women to participate, so hopefully they will survive through this ordeal as well.

If you have trouble with the bipod jumping or sliding, try a piece of carpet or rubber mat. If shooting on the ground, the clawed bipod feet work well.

This teacher faces having a "letter of remedy" placed in his employment file, because he warned his students of their 5th Amendment right. Warning lands Batavia teacher in hot water

Has any one been to the new range eagle eye shooting range ?
TripleDigitRide replied to ted's topic in General Chat
Damn! That sounds like a pretty nice place. Only if it were a little closer. Congrats to those in that area. Are the listed membership fees a yearly fee? The daily non-member fee isn't bad. I generally don't go to the range 27 times a year, so I couldn't justify $275 a year. -
Either way, I respect the opinions of others, no matter how strongly I disagree. Not that I am assuming anyone cares, but I don't allow these discussions to have an ill effect how much I generally like most folks here on TGO. If I liked you before (which is almost everyone), discussions like this don't change a thing.

The post you're referring to was posted while my tongue was placed firmly in my cheek.

Why would anyone want to be part of an organization that's willing to forego their morals, religious beliefs and the safety of the innocent children for money?

If being gay didn't come with so many restrictions that us straights don't have to deal with, I'd be willing to bet we'd hear a lot less about the gays. Some of the same arguments being used today regarding gays were once used to treat women and blacks as second-class citizens. When the Women's Rights Movement began in the mid-1800's, I'm sure there were plenty of men who thought the world as they knew it was coming to an end.

I must have missed that one too. I use and like Tapatalk2, but I downloaded the beta version to check it out.

Troubling news for the Trayvon Martin camp

Which is better, 9mm or .45? -
I am one of those right-leaning Republicans. Maybe I'm not leaning far enough, because I am not buying into the notion that gays wanting to be part of the Scouts is part of some evil conspiracy to rule the world and force me to dress like one of the Village People.

You know how some folks get after downing some Skittles. Usually how folks start a crime spree. Yep! Especially true with these new-age youngsters who crush and snort their Skittles. That stuff is bad news. -

Looks like he's up to no good. Zimmerman probably saved someone from being robbed. Team Zimmerman! -

I like the 870, but if cost is an issue, the IAC Hawk is a great shotgun for home defense purposes. I plan on buying one, based on the price alone. It is a very close copy of the 870, and most aftermarket parts months 870 will work on the Hawk. I've had the opportunity to fondle the Hawk, and other than the action being a bit stiff, I couldn't find anything about it that I didn't like. Without having done much research, I suspect the stiff action can be fixed without much trouble.

Are you buying these as collectors, or do you plan on using them? I may pick up one of the blemished 300's from KershawGuy.

I am a big guy with big hands, so he 350 is no issue. Honestly, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if it were bigger.

You may not be able to force me into your religion, but when enough of you get together and vote for certain rules, laws etc. based on your religious beliefs, I am most certainly forced to live my life based on your religious beliefs. But that's the way out system currently operates, and I accept it for what it is.

Congrats on the nice truck. I basically did the same thing when I purchased my current truck. It definitely makes the process much easier.

Generally speaking, there is far more pressure from the right to end abortion. Also, generally speaking, the Right tends to base their opinions on religious beliefs. That's really the only point I was trying to make. As I stated before, I'm not gay or religious. Because of this, the gay issue couldn't mean less to me. My biggest problem, is the fact that we have so many on both sides who like to complain about some other group forcing their ideals, all while acting as if they don't do the very same thing. You can play semantics all day long, but as someone who doesn't have a dog in this fight, I think both sides are full of crap, turning it into something it isn't. For whatever reasons, BSA enrollment has dropped nearly 50% in the last 30-40 years, almost 15% in the last 10 or so years. Unless there's a mass exodus — which I don't believe there will be — the loss of members won't be anything new to the organization. As difficult as it is for many to swallow, the times and society are constantly changing. As I said before, there are battles and wars I'm willing to fight, but this ain't one of them. Some claim this issue is somehow a political ploy by the Left, but I think you're giving the opposition far too much credit. If it is a ploy, you just fell into their trap by taking your eye off the ball. If a ploy at all, it's nothing more than a distraction, and I'm not willing to give them that much credit. Sadly, much like the BSA, the right-leaning Republicans are a dying breed. If we push away the minorities, the gays, and anyone else we don't completely agree with, we are left all alone. If you wish to stand by your convictions, no matter the outcome, I'm all for that. On the flip-side, if this is the path you choose, be willing to accept the consequences. Personally, I think the Right could be a little more flexible on certain subjects. Let God sort them out.

Of course I'm not in favor of universal background checks, but what are we going to do if such a law is passed? You can either follow the rules or not. I didn't vote for Obama, but I am forced to live with it for the time being. I'm certainly not going to cry about it. It is what it is, and we have a chance to change it.

I would disagree. The pro-life versus pro-choice is the first thing that comes to mind. The right/religious-right has been doing everything in their power to put an end to abortion. No one is forcing those who are pro-life to have an abortion, yet pro-lifers want to tell everyone else they can't have an abortion. How 'bout everyone live their lives as they see fit, as long as it doesn't directly interfere someone else's. As someone who's neither gay nor religious, I don't give a damn how you choose to live your life, and I don't give a damn how Adam & Steve live theirs. As long as none of you try to force me to follow you religious beliefs or force me to be gay, we could be great friends. I have friends from all walks of life, with varying religious beliefs and sexual preferences. Never once do I sit around and dwell on how much differently they are living their lives than I am, and I wouldn't or couldn't live the way they've chosen. Some people have far too much time on their hands. I have one short life to live, and I can't fathom sitting around and worrying how everyone else is living their life and why. In the end, none of this matters. As far as I am concerned, it's just one big pissing contest.

No more than you would expect the gays to roll over and take it. No one is forcing anything on anyone. There was a vote, and majority spoke. End of story.
