I knew 700 was a little bit steep, but didn't know why. Since a local store here has several AK's in the 500 or so range. I was actually thinking about building one a while back, but don't know where to start.

Including the older ones? Guess the 700 this guy was asking is way out of the park. I've never owned or bought an Ak so honestly have no idea as to what to look for.

I have been looking for an AK 47 and found an older model Yugo under-folder, Century Arms. What is a reasonable price to pay for it?

Well I guess I will add that to my list of parts then. I have shot next to some pretty obnoxious guns with and concussions, and I can see why some shooters don't like that. Like shooting today, there was a guy with a Desert Eagle at an indoor range. That was annoying.

So it's a must for sbr's then?

I have wondered how the Pig worked, never knew that there was a baffle in it.

I was talking about making my own flash suppressor, but also making my own can later on, just a thought. The can after filling out and getting back all the paperwork though.

But yes, once I have one NFA item it definitely won't be my last.

Well it was that or the Noveske Pig. I'm debating making my own can because I like building things more than buying them, especially when it comes to lathe and mill work. So in the end I might end up just turning and milling my own.

Well I like the YHM Flash suppressor, but I am still open to better ideas.

12.5" barrel, thinking YHM Phantom flash suppressor, and I want to go with an A2 stock, but more than likely I'll go with a collapsible Magpul stock.

Great. That's what was a little bit worrying to me was if I am off by a little bit is that grounds for rejection, or having the ATF come after me for it.

Do you have to know your overall length before you fill out the paperwork, or after?

Well that answers my questions. I think I'll go with a 12.5" then. Also I think for me, at the current time I'm just going to go with fairly simple to start and get in the ring. Something that just came to mind, do you prefer your barrel to be exposed or the rail to come almost to the end of the flash suppressor? Or is that more of just a personal taste.

Oh, also am I correct in assuming that once I have the sbr lower, I can have multiple uppers for it? Such as a 16" and say a 14.5," or whatever?

Excellent, I will look into that. Though I might wait on that and put it on later when I get around to the suppressor.

What about a 14.5" barrel? I know it would almost be a little pointless to have a barrel just a 1.5" shorter than a 16" barrel, but I am considering that. What barrels do you have on yours or like, also is it possible to buy just the switch block without the upper? As far as a suppressor goes, I have always wanted to machine my own rather than buy one. So in that regard it would probably stay on the short barrel more so than my other ar. Though I have heard very good things about Surefire and their suppressors/mounts.

Sorry I realized after I posted that question, that it was a little vague. Yes, I do want to build it on an ar platform. General purpose. At some point or another I would like to suppress it, but at the current time I am not as concerned about that.

I am new to the whole sbr/class III things and have a couple of questions. First, what forms do I need to fill out for a short barreled rifle? Second, what barrel length would you recommend. Finally, what muzzle break or flash suppressor would be the best to use?

Another question I have is over the lower. If I build an sbr, can I put a non-sbr upper on it, or does the short barrel upper have to stay on the short barrel lower? In other words can I use my existing lower and have it engraved after the paperwork comes back, but also use it for my 20" barrel upper?

I hope you don't mind if I jump in on this thread as well. I have also been wanting to make a short barreled rifle, but can that be done at 19, off of the form I? I talked to my local gun store owner and he said that he wasn't really sure, and the opinions online vary.
