  1. Is that picture out by Smokey Mountain Knife Works? It looks very familiar. (Picture on first page)
  2. I kinda like the show just to see what they come up with but a lot of it seems pointless. Like the tri-M16 thing, I really want to know what they were going for there.
  3. Is Red Jacket in any way better than other companies or are people wanting them just because of the t.v. show? I saw one of their ar's and there wasn't anything special about it except their logo on the mag well.
  4. Is the second one from the left a Case Melon Tester?
  5. So true. So if ar's are assembled, why was Sons of Guns making such a big deal about one of the guys not having built one? I built mine with no real knowledge of the assembly. Or is it just because they have to have something to make a big deal out of?
  6. Haha. It's more up front to build one versus buy one, but I think it's better to just build mine from a flat so I can say I did.
  7. I was looking at one of the jigs from Ak Builder for the Yugo 1.5mm flats.
  8. So if I just wanted to make two or three then I don't need to do anything to them, other than put a serial number if I possibly decided to sell one later on. I have no intent to manufacture them, but rather just build several for personal use.
  9. Oh, do any of you know the regulations for bending your own flats? Do I need to register them or can I just make them and use them on an AK?
  10. And ammo prices, but shipping I think on that would be really high.
  11. Very nice. What do you have on it, red dot?
  12. Holds a zero fairly well?
  13. Oh, that's awesome. Never seen that on an AK before.
  14. Out of curiosity, what are those things right above the trigger, some kind of reinforcement? I just haven't seen those, I don't think at least.
  15. That sir, is a mighty fine looking weapon. I am quite jealous haha.
  16. Yeah, that's the one part that I'm a little nervous about, but I enjoy a challenge. I was planning on making it compliant anyway. Yep always good when you can admit the pros and cons of a system. Honestly I feel that an AR is most likely more accurate than most Ak's but at the same time a very well made one I don't doubt can be very accurate. Then again at the same time I wouldn't trust my AR being dragged through mud and still working, an AK on the other hand I would.
  17. So many choices... I want one now, but I feel the fact that I could say I built mine from scratch would be worth it though.
  18. I think I have decided to just build one from a kit, with a new U.S. made barrel for the experience. It will be more expensive up front, but it could be beneficial later on. Also hopefully some of the tools will work with assembling an RPD, because that's also on my list.
  19. Which company?
  20. Yeah, no joke. I mean past the possible charges that could result, who wouldn't want several crates of Ak's or one for that matter for 15 bucks?
  21. Yeah I already decided not to do it after I got the first e-mail from this guy. I figured he got taken and now he's trying to do it to someone else.
  22. So press it part way in, drop the bolt it, check headspacing, press more until it's right? Is it possible to press a barrel back out if you mess it up? Well I mean I assume you can because how else are you supposed to put a new one in, but is it the same process just in reverse?
  23. Well a Russian villager just bought a shipment of Ak's on accident. All 1950-1960's production. Apparently he thought he was just buying the crates for firewood but when he opened them they had Ak's in them, and he paid a total of 500 Rubles for it (15 dollars or so). (Reuters) - A Russian villager discovered a stockpile of Kalashnikov assault rifles hidden in the wooden crates he bought for $15 from a stranger to use as fuel for his winter stove.
  24. I agree with Caster, great to see a good argument without someone being offended. Personally if I had the money I would have a SBR AR and a Krink, just saying... I love my AR and have gotten very used to it but you can't deny that the AK works and has worked. If I were to go parts kit I would definitely get a new barrel. How do you headspace it though when you press it in? Do you just keep slowly pressing it in until it is correct or measure then press to that dimension?
  25. I mean this seems like a pretty good sounding board so I thought well, heck why not ask everyone else and see what they think about the legitimacy of that claim.
