  1. That’s insane!

What is “military grade” ammunition? Technically one could say “military caliber” ammunition would be “military grade”. And if you go back far enough, this would include calibers like .25acp (issued by the German Military pre WWII) and 45LC (issued to U.S. force during the Moro Rebellion in the Philippines). And rifles would be the same. Things like 30-06, 7mm Mauser, .338 Lapua, are all military calibers.

  2. My advice comes from the perspective of a guy that carries everywhere, all the time. If you pick something that’s big or heavy, most likely, you are going to get to a point that you’ll quit carrying, because of the size or weight.

The bigger the pistol, the more it tends to print and the more self conscious you’ll be. If it’s heavy and you don’t invest in the right belt and holster combo, then you are not going to want to carry, cause it will pull on your pants and you’ll be uncomfortable and go around tugging on them. Make sure that you’ll be comfortable carrying which ever pistol you pick.

  3. Both are excellent pistols! Can't really go wrong with either. For me, I have medium sized hands, and I found the Safety on the CZ-75 hard to manipulate. But it was a supremely accurate pistol!

I've never owned a SA35, but I have owned a Browning Hi-Power and it was the Goldilocks of single action autos for me!  It fit just right!!! Sadly that pistol was stolen in a burglary (hope the bastard that stole it is burning in hell). I have handled the Girsan MC35 recently and it felt like an old friend. It's running about 2 or 300 hundred less that the SA35. But it is made in Turkey and some may not like that.

Price wise, in the Knoxville area, you will generally spend about the same amount for either the CZ-75 or the SA35 (if you can find one).

Responding to this thread as well as all of 2agood's threads may well be a waste of time. Seems he was just a drive by. Registered 11-25, made 11 posts and hasn't been back since. 🙄

Still a good thread for info, for the rest of us. I like the old stuff too, just don't see things that are that cheap anymore. I guess I'm still living in the 1990's though. 😄

I think Wayne LaPierre needs to go so the NRA can repair the damage done with members. No one likes to contribute hard earned dollars toward a cause only to find out the Executive leader is spending the money in frivolous and wasteful ways that don't advance the cause.

Having said that, I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch over an article printed in ROLLING STONE in partnership with "The Trace" (a nonprofit 'newsroom' covering gun violence...their words, not mine.)

Why let the left divide us when their only goal is to weaken the strongest gun advocacy group in the world so the progressive-liberals can push thru their agenda with less organized & powerful opposition?

    * Join GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA (GOA)

    * Join SECOND AMENDMENT FOUNDATION (SAF)

    * Contribute money to the NRA ILA (Institute for Legislative Action)

    * Keep voting for the pro-gun candidates

But don't let these guys & gals (Rolling Stone & The Trace) convince you to stop supporting the NRA. Just keep telling the NRA Wayne has to go when they ask for money. At some point, maybe(!), the board of directors will do the right thing.

The problems within the NRA have been well known a long time prior to this article being published. Until WLP and his cronies are gone, they'll get no more of my money. This article just brings to light how financially bad the situation is now.

There are several other organizations that doing as better work on our behalf. I'll shift my funds to them.

  6. I split time anymore, between a Ruger Max-9 with a RDS, and a S&W 442. I also will carry a Ruger LCP Max when it just too hard to conceal anything else.

If I had a Berreta Cheetah or a Walther PPK/s in.32ACP, that would likely be in my rotation as well.

this is what i wanted to hear. i wanted to hear the pros and cons. With it being my first one i thought maybe i should try out a pistol cartridge first, but i am so "all in" with everything that i needed to hear this. Thank you and i think i am gonna go with maybe a 357 for my first one, but i saw that 500 s&w magnum and i got the twitch again LOL i think 357 would be a good place to start, do you know which brand would be my best bang for the buck and do you know if a 357 lever gun shoots 38 like a revolver or is that only in revolvers?

I had a couple of 3030 early on, a Marlin 336 and a Winchester 94. sold them both. but that was when LRs were cheap and plentiful and could be had for a couple of hundred bucks. Boy do I wish I still had both of them now!

Fast forward to 2020, my wife bought me a Rossi 92 Trapper in .357. This has become one of my favorite rifles to woods bum with! it's a joy to carry around (lighter than either the Remlin or the Henry that I looked at the same time), accurate and the 16" barrel is the perfect length to get the most out of factory .357 magnum ammunition.

Since, I've added a Henry Classic .22 and have a 1953 3030 Winchester 94 in lay-a-way at my LGS.  I'll be looking for another Marlin next, then a Savage.

A savage 99 is on the list. I will probably try to stay in a caliber I already have (most likely 35 rem).

i started with one Henry 22 and now have  7 Marlins, three Winchesters, plus a few other cool old rifles. I have sold the Henry as well as a Rossi, a Marlin and a Winchester. I guess since late 2021, I have bought 14 lever guns.

I started of slowly and quickly went all in. It did help that  circumstances in life compelled me to divest of all my ARs and related supplies which were quickly turned into lever guns.

Slowly??? you should just delete those underline words. Makes the statement more accurate! 😂🤣😂

  9. Odd source for this type of article on Tennessee Gun Owners. It's from Rolling Stone magazine. Seems funding for the NRA as been slipping and rather than get rid of WLP and his crew of misfits, they are cutting funding for shooting education. Imagine that. The NRA was a great organization, until the crooks took it over. And I don't see it ever coming back to preeminence until WLP and his cronies are gone. Of course, as long as there's enough cash coming in to support their lifestyles, that's not going to happen.

I'd copy and paste the article here, but I'm afraid the graphics might not come over. So here's the link. Go read it for yourselves.

Firearms Policy Coalition, GOA and SAF are on this case big time, where is the NRA?

Waiting to swoop in at the last minute to take credit for any success that we enjoy. Otherwise, they are sitting around counting their money like the Mafia.

  11. All a Gunsmith is going to do is put the slide in a vise and drift it back to center using a brass punch and a mallet. You could do that and save a chunk of change.  Also, if it shoots to point of aim with the rear sight where it is, moving the rear sight is unnecessary and will make the pistol less enjoyable.

All ya old guys with no butt n big belly:

Wear hi back overalls and ya can carry most anything in your strong side hip pocket.  No body will notice if ya are not in the " Uptown Financial District". I can easily carry a gubt model 45ACP in em.  The normal Glock stuff just disappears...

Advice from a gimped up old codger with a big belly and butt.  A size 52 fits me about right.  Gonna wear my hickory striped hi backs tomorrow.

    rustic leroy...

I wore my Liberty Bibs Saturday, while helping my wife with her craft show. I love Bibs with deep pockets! Carried my Ruger Max9 with RDS in my strongside pocket (in a Sticky holster) and two spare mags in a DeSantis double mag holster in my weakside pocket. Everything else went into my two chest pockets, including a large lock blade knife, a Swiss Army knife Farmer, ChapStick, and my keys. The back pockets held my wallet and smartphone. And it was extremely loose and comfortable!

Listen to that old codger @leroy! He know of what he speaks!!! 🙂

I’ve been wanting one for a long time. I found a WWII era 1911 hip holster yesterday for a $10 spot, so now I have a holster. If it cleans up really well, and I happen to find myself in Buds in Seveierville, I can’t promise restraint…

I've enjoyed mine. It's combat accurate, just like all the 1911A1s I shot in the Army, except for a National Match that I was issued when I was on the ARCOM Marksmanship Team. That was a joy!

The one con I found with mine was that the magazine was trash. Fortunately I happened have seveal GI Issue mags that worked just fine in it.
