  1. The menu has changed. I found some calves liver. Anyone know what I do with it?
  2. I was wondering about that. About 15 years ago, the state started seriously talking about adding a few lanes on SR 75 leading to Tri-Cities Airport. About 10 years ago, they told people it was going to happen. About 5 years ago, they actually bought the property of the folks in the way of the new road, including a friend of mine. Now they are finally actually building the new bridge they need over the South Holston River / Patrick Henry Lake. I'd say in about the spring, they might start some road grading.
  3. If the King had been giving entitlements (paid for by the colonies) we never would have had a revolution.
  4. The Reagan administration insisted that ketchup is a vegetable for government lunch programs.
  5. I'm still going through volleyball withdrawal.
  6. I certainly can not agree that our gun right are equally at risk from both candidates. McCain is certainly not strong on gun rights but Obama is openly and overtly hostile to those rights. I wonder where we would have been today with our guns if Gore had won rather than Bush eight years ago. As far as having a protest vote in favor of the Libertarian Party and that leading to the masses throwing down the liberalism of the Republicans and nutso-liberalism of the Democrats - I don't think that will ever happen. The public has learned they can raid the national coffers and the question is just how much they choose to loot. And both parties know they will lose if they try to shut down the "entitlement" pipeline.
  7. The problem is that if you don't vote for the lesser of two evils, the greater of two evils has a much better chance of being elected.
  8. What difference would that make? The folks posting on here sound like the local members I have contact with. I went to a local meeting a year or so ago. About 3/4 of the people there were quiet and pretty sensible. The other 1/4 made up the leadership and they were nut jobs. Someone should have been handing out Ritalin. I also have a friend who started a libertarian board. I tried it for about two weeks and couldn't stand the illogic, braggadocio and hyper-emotionalism any more. As I say, I'm essentially a libertarian, but I doubt I'll ever be a Libertarian. As a party, it's going nowhere.
  9. Pesto is easy to make in a food processor. Of course purists will only do it in a mortar and pestle. But those folks drown when they go out in the rain. I planted three pots (and kinds) of basil that I keep on the uncovered part of the front porch. Another type came up as a volunteer in another pot I used last year. I can collect enough basil for a meal about every 4 days. Pesto freezes well too. Oh yeah, I forgot about the three tablespoons of butter in it too. More oil!!!! I think I'm going for linguine with white clam sauce for supper. But that clam chowder sounds good too.
  10. This topic reinforces my conclusions about a lot of people who support the libertarian cause. Around here, we have a lot of good people who think libertarian ideas are good, and I agree with them. Unfortunately, the people in the Libertarian party are a real mix of sensible people and some real squirrel bait that have no concept of reality. I think that the way you get libertarian ideas back into the legislature is to start at the local level and get elected to office. Then you move up to the state and eventually - hopefully - the national level. The raling against Bush and the PA, but throwing your vote away, does no good for your cause. It isn't going to influence the major political parties. After all, you just threw your vote away. Why consider you? Now if you decide which major party to vote for depending on who you most agree with, then the parties may listen.
  11. The Apple Barn is OK, but not great IMHO. At one time, very long ago, it was about the only place to eat in Pigeon Forge. BTW, anyone seen this site? http://www.meatandthree.com/tn/index.html
  12. Supper was boring. Just finished up the chicken wings I had left over. Lunch was more interesting. I made some fresh basil pesto. Ate it on linguine and some split plum tomatoes. Very healthy except the pesto has a half cup of olive oil in it and another half cup of Parmesan . Enough fat there to float a ship.
  13. I have to admit that I never use the indicator on the Beretta. Then again, I always know it has one in the chamber. It's a harmless addition and actually would be easily usable in the XD version, even in the dark. I'll give Glock a brownie point for adding it.
  14. I could be wrong, but I don't recall a round loaded flag on the extractor of my 3rd gen G23. But my 1980s Beretta 92SB has one.
  15. It certainly sounds like a nice improvement to the XD, and of course the other striker fired handguns.
  16. Oh no! I don't mind getting shot at, but I'm not going into Memphidishu. We got about three drops of rain so far. Probably will get a little over the next couple of days. I smoked a cigar anyway.
  17. Well, maybe you are right. What I see in an XD-M is a gun with a fully supported chamber to eliminate KaBooms, grip safety to prevent your gun from going off as you holster it, and a design that doesn't have to be dry fired to field strip, thus preventing most of those NDs we all read about. The backstrap thing is a nice touch too. If that's pimping, then I'll take more of it. I'd call it more like evolving into a much better handgun. But if you like an unsafe antiquated design, then more power to you.
  18. I was just thinking about some shrimp.... You'd probably enjoy hanging out when I'm at home. Some places I visit might be more entertaining but less friendly.
  19. Oh...don't get me started on that one.
  20. No need to start another topic. Let's use the old one: http://tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8158
  21. I have one of the weather radios that you can program to just get weather warnings in your area. I mostly use it as a cigar alert. We have very few tornadoes in our area. We haven't had even a shower in a couple of weeks. Finally a 50% chance this afternoon.
  22. I've been hoping for some time that Bush would resign so that President Cheney could take over for a while. I'd just like to see the liberals apoplectic.
  23. About all I know is that the Democrats are thankful that there is a Libertarian Party, and the Republicans are glad there is a Green Party.
  24. There are quite a few guns these days that are accurate and reliable. I've carried one for years that is that way - a Beretta 92SB. But safe design is a legitimate consideration too as is a handgun that gives you options rather than one type of action fits all mentality. I don't see what is so special about a Glock that it inspires such resolute loyalty and devotion. They work fine for duty within the limitations of their design. But they have problems too that are well known and documented. I certainly agree that you need to have a carry handgun that you can learn to shoot well with practice. I had to learn to shoot a Beretta, Glock, USP, SIG, etc. But I want more than shootability in a handgun. If I can get them, I also want other features and significant safety factors. Gun manufacturers are getting better and better at offering that. The XD-M is an example. If I wanted a striker fired 40 S&W, that is undoubtedly what I would buy. Why not? But I still want the ability to de-cock and re-cock too, so for now I stay away from striker fired handguns except for the P7M8 which has de-cock / re-cock capability. I'm still waiting for the perfect gun. Meantime, I'll go with the best I can find. I've always been willing to tell the bad points as well as the good about any gun I have or have had and why in many cases I traded them. I see no reason to not do that.
