  1. Wish I could have gotten out there Primitive conditions are right up my alley. I enjoy shooting in places like that. Generally, the fewer rules the better.
  2. Here's an interesting story from about a year ago: http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2006/5/23/210820.shtml
  3. That's exactly what they are good for. Too bad they don't advertise them that way. If I haven't done it already, sometime I'll tell you about a telephone conversation with the owner of the company who makes them.
  4. Glad to hear things are going well. I think if my back was fixed, I'd be careful about things that might mess it up again. Just friendly advice. Some years ago I broke my neck in a couple of places in a truck wreck. Everything came out OK but I decided it was a good time to give up snow skiing. Let's just say that my level of expertise frequently found me doing head over heels flips down the mountainside. How about a nice game of chess? (You won't understand this if you haven't seen WarGames from 1983.)
  5. Nice meeting all of you. My wife says that Pratts is now her favorite barbecue place in the region. Sorry we couldn't shoot with you. This is our anniversary weekend. Today is the day. No particular plans except being together. BTW, my wife is an excellent judge of character. Y'all passed.
  6. I had a G26 for a while. Found it to be a bit wide and odd shaped for concealed carry. As Tungsten said, ergonomics is not its strong point. I've come to the conclusion that something flat makes for better concealed carry. Someone mentioned the Kel-Tec as a back-up-gun. I carry a P3AT all the time if I don't have a larger handgun on my hip. Worth looking into.
  7. Why didn't I think of that? WOW...I could have had a V-8! Of course the folks at Extreme Shock claim they killed a boar with one of their 380 rounds. I think if you hit them in the chest, their head explodes from the massive trauma.
  8. I'd probably just have the 380. That would only make him mad.
  9. That's neat that Mark used to shoot with Hathcock. Hope you can convince him to come to lunch. Dave, I'll be the old guy wearing the Glock cap. I'll let someone else explain the significance of that.
  10. Hi Dave. You coming to the meet and shoot tomorrow? Pratt's at 11, then a shoot after that.
  11. This is a pretty complex situation. Happened to see a program last night on migrant workers in North Carolina. Pretty balanced show. Usual liberal whining about mistreatment of the poor migrants, but also a realistic look at their function in North Carolina agricultural economics. Basically, even at high (for this kind of work) hourly rates, the veggie farmers can't hire enough legal workers. About 65% of the pickers are not just Mexicans but illegal. So, the illegals work for minimum wage in really lousy conditions. State law requires one refrigerator for every 27 workers. No mattresses on the beds are required. One crapper for every 25 workers generally just in an open room with no privacy. Often those are outhouses too. Their conditions here are probably no worse than in Mexico, but no American would work under those conditions. About 10% of the 1600 NC farmers using migrant labor have decent places for the migrants to live. The other 90%.... Well...there only four labor inspectors to see that the law is being followed. If we could somehow toss out all the illegal folks today, our veggie prices would skyrocket and shortages would look like the old days of the Soviet Union. I don't want to stand in line for an hour to buy two half-rotten onions. The Mexicans need us to provide decent jobs. We need them to keep our standard of living. It's a symbiotic relationship. I don't like the current proposal, but it's not as far off the mark as neocons are saying. I'd rather not have the amnesty but would clamp down in phases on those hiring illegal aliens over say 10 years. That way, the workers could apply and come back in legally, while we still get strawberries and lettuce to eat. But really, the end result twenty years down the line will be the same as under this plan. BTW, building a border fence is a pipe dream. Total waste of huge amounts of tax money. There are other ways to get here than walking across the border from Mexico. There is no "sealing the borders." Get over it....
  12. I much prefer leather for any civilized area carry holsters. Don't think I even own any Kydex any more. I find they become uncomfortable after an hour or two.
  13. OK!!! I'm guessing that you concealed carried. After a while you get used to having it on and stop worrying if someone spots it and it doesn't feel right to be without it. BTW, if you like to wear caps, I think a gun related one makes a great security blanket for casual carry. Most people won't think twice about you having a gun on your hip if you have openly declared yourself to be a gun aficionado. They tend to assume you know the law and what you are doing. Just make sure they are right. Study the law and train for what could happen.
  14. I used to drink a lot. Just grew up and found a good reason to not drink excessively. I married her. I do still drink a little. No compunction against it at all. Enjoying getting high is part of the human genome. Even if no one is drinking, generally I'd rather be around social drinkers than non-drinkers. That isn't true if they are problem drinkers. As I said, I grew up. As I recall, some states do allow you to carry and drink. Personally, I think this is sensible, although I'm sure others are convinced there will be blood running out from the door of the bar if people are allowed to drink and pack. Like almost all dire predictions about gun carry, it just doesn't actually happen. People who pack legally also use common sense. The ones you have to watch are the ones drinking and packing without a permit. If I'm around them, I think it is only sensible that I have a gun too.
  15. I'll add my congratulations too. Just remember, the permit won't protect you if you don't also carry the gun.
  16. Exactly as I feel. I fail to see the problem.
  17. My wife is coming to the Pratt's luncheon, in case that matters to other possible women attendees. Women are funny about that sort of thing. They don't want to be the only woman in a sea of testosterone. We'll be at the restaurant, but have to pass on the shoot. I'll have to dig the Glock hat out or my pickumup truck.
  18. This is a bit off topic, but I think related. Our local libraries have a policy that patrons, or anyone else for that matter, may carry weapons in the library as long as they are legal. For practical purposes, that means you have to have a carry permit and not be in the one branch in our county that sits on school property. I's fine for the other four buildings. I checked the other day to see if it is OK for the library staff to also pack. Nothing in Sullivan County regulations prevents a county employee from carrying a weapon. There really is just no logical reason for someone with a permit to not be allowed to carry where they wish. The criminals do.
  19. Folks, we are going to have a problem as long as the Democrats hold the House. Yes, I know some Democrats are pro-gun, but they support their party leaders who are anti-gun. They continue to vote in Jimmy Naifeh as slimeball of the House and he appoints anti-gun committee chairmen. In this case it's two strikes and you're out. You want reasonable gun legislation? Elect pro-gun politicians who will put their principles above their party affiliation. Dream on.... Since that isn't going to happen in either party, elect Republicans in order to change the Speaker.
  20. Oh good. Another person on the site who has some sense!

    45 GAP

They would only AD if they were IN a Glock. Maybe I can get a job for a few days at the Bristol Exide battery plant. Everyone there has near-toxic blood lead levels within a few shifts.
  22. I did the same thing Branket. So now I try to remember to check the box if it's something I need to copy. Also note that you can archive PMs to your computer easily. Then just delete the PMs on the server. While we are at it Broadside, the clicky that takes you to the top of the page has disappeared.

    45 GAP

Hey molonlabetn, I got the 45 GAPs today. Thanks! Still have the packaging. Where in it is the doomsday device? What does "Opened For Postal Inspection" mean? JUST KIDDING!!!!
  24. In my opinion, these people deserved a bit more than a 2 1/2 week suspension.
