  1. Guys, the ad hominem and post hoc reasoning is beginning to make my stomach queasy. This is a subject worth debating but we need to attack the subject and not the posting party. In addition just because something proceeds something else, it doesn't mean the first thing caused the second. How about a few more statistics and analysis with fewer emotional rants.
  2. Sounds like someone who would watch American Idol.
  3. I like the Alabama law, Boogers may not be flicked into the wind.
  4. The poll is for April 14th and I live 200 miles from you. You really want me to vote?
  5. We could put a bullseye on the crotch. For Macho it could be on the other side and read "Tennessee Bun Owners." I'd go for a hat, maybe a t-shirt, although I just threw out about a dozen of them including two Glock T's that had been given to me. I'm personally not interested in a Polo shirt. One thing. If we do a T, make it a pocket-T. BTW, the Admin over at another board sent me a free t-shirt showing me as staff. Just a hint.

I won't use one, but it could be sufficiently safe on the right gun. Kel-Tec offers it as an accessory for the P32 and P3AT. Maybe other models. I can see potential for those handguns, but as noted, not for something like a Glock.
  7. That photo is a fake. If that was really Teddy Kennedy, the bottle would be empty.
  8. No, I can't go for that. With the duck and cover drills, we didn't think the Soviets were actually dropping a bomb on our head at that very minute. Fire drills just had the bells go off and we marched out in an orderly fashion. We knew it was a drill. They didn't set up smoke makers in the halls and have the Principal get on the speaker and tell us there was a fire in the cafeteria that was rapidly spreading and we had to get out NOW or be incinerated. In this case, the kids were told there actually was a gunman. That's crossing the line.
  9. It probably doesn't matter who makes the thread, as long as they leave a link in the old one so everyone knows to start leaving posts about the next get-together in it.
  10. Looks good to me. I made it a sticky, so it will be easy to find. Sorry for the weird thread order. This happens when you move posts.
  11. LabRat went ahead and started a topic for the EAST Tn TGO Members JUNE Meet at http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1217. Let's move the planning messages to there. I'll keep this topic open for the present in case there is unfinished business about the May meeting and will close it in a day or two.
  12. That's pretty much what I was thinking. Start a new thread for the month and eventually close, but not delete, this one.
  13. Have a question for you folks. We are already up to 7 pages on this topic. Do we need to start a new topic for each month?
  14. I have three acres out in the county, but it's not flat and anywhere I shoot would go into the neighboring land. Now my drunken former neighbor did shoot that way into the field where the horses are. I think he's on the run in Las Vegas these days. Of course I do have the tree house on top of the ridge overlooking the Interstate that has the nice gun mounts. JUST KIDDING!
  15. I'm pretty sure that if Jordan did something like that it would be well documented. No Second Place Winner is a great book.
  16. IMHO, the fewer range rules, the better.
  17. Valid point. Roy Rogers taught me that.
  18. And some of the mods are pretty colorful characters.... Hornet, I think this picture goes with your avatar:
  19. I don't think this officer was an idiot. He was just doing things on autopilot rather than thinking about what he was doing. He had field stripped his handgun a thousand times and wasn't concentrating on it. We did a thread on another board to see if anyone would admit to having a ND. A surprising number of experienced shooters, a number with LE and military background, admitted to doing it. I'll bet we have some folks on this board who have done it too. The thinking is that you want to field strip the handgun and in order to do that it has to be dry fired. So you drop the magazine and just forget the step where you extract the round from the chamber. Instead of going "click" it goes "boom." I have actually witnessed that happening with a guy who has a lot of military and Law Enforcement experience. He wasn't stupid, he just wasn't thinking. And this is not a problem just with a Glock. It's common with most (all?) striker fired handguns. It's true of my Sterling 25 that they stopped making in 1987. It's true of XDs and Jimenez/Jennings/Bryco etc. Some M&Ps have a workaround for it, some don't. With a lot of handguns, if you forget to remove the chambered round, no harm is done - except to your ego. I think that's the way it should be.
  20. You plan to go on a shoot a week before your wedding and you may not be engaged any more.
  21. Attempting to maintain a low profile is seldom the best way to eliminate potential imminent domain problems. Maintaining a high profile and working the politicians seems to do better.
  22. Know how you feel Macho. When I applied for my civilian carry permit, I had to go through the standard ink type fingerprinting. It took two or three weeks to even get an appointment to take the prints back them. The fact that I've been fingerprinted a zillion times and had multiple very extensive background checks over the years was of course irrelevant. Then it took a couple of months to get the permit. As you say, we shouldn't have to go through the checks at all. The criminals don't when they want to carry.
  23. I talked to Mike at Top Notch Guns about this. He plans to raise hell at the next meeting about this . Please go out and help. Give him a call at the shop Monday - Friday at 323-6638. It's my understanding that the rule change comes up for a vote or something at the next meeting (June 7, 7 PM). I think they will allow double and triple taps. As I understand it, someone has his panties in a wad and wants a "family club". To hell with you if your idea of shooting doesn't match their idea. My father was a charter member of Cherokee R&G. My wife and I joined several years ago, but didn't re-up after it became clear a few people ran things and had less fiscal sense than a rabbit. That's not to say the club is in bad financial shape, just that the decisions made at one meeting were pretty "stoopid". My wife left swearing never to go back. BTW among the things my wife has done is 17 years in banking, most in the trust department where they invest other folks money who have trusts. Kinda like what a club should do with their money. We're too old and cranky to socialize with fools. Phantom6 said it. You need to show up with a bunch of ticked off people and take back the club. Maybe I'd rejoin too.
  24. Oh dear, yet another ND that obviously has nothing to do with the gun's design....
  25. My wife took one look at the Glock hat, declared it a "Goober-hat", and said she refused to go into the restaurant with me wearing it. My wife has very good taste.
