Oh yeah. Much worse. We'd be up to $8 a gallon gas already if the government was running the show. It's for the children.

Maxine is from California. Need I say more?

Don't you know that the Feds monitor Yahoo? Semi-kidding. They probably do.

I had an interesting talk today with a guy whose residence is in Tennessee but he works in Charlotte, North Carolina. As you probably know, Charlotte is virtually on the South Carolina line. This guy has a Tennessee Carry Permit. He says one of the folks he works with got into trouble in South Carolina for carrying his handgun, with a permit, in his glove compartment. The cop who took him in said that the permit let the guy carry his handgun on his person, but not in the glove compartment. Looking at SC regulatios at http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t16c023.htm, the pertinant clause seems to be: In short, it sounds like you can have the handgun on you and a permit, or the gun must be locked in the glove compartment. My car has no lock on the glove compartment. As I understand it, the guy was hauled in but eventually released. Pure speculation is that the guy gave the cop a hard time and the cop knows his law. Anyway, this is an invitation to comment if you have any insight, and a warning to keep your gun concealed on your person if traveling through SC. Oh yes, you must notify the officer that you are carrying once he identifies himself.

SCOTUS will tell us this year.

Only thing I see is from http://www.tva.gov/river/landandshore/pdfs/v1_appen.pdf (2007-07-24) Incompatible Recreational Uses (1.10.8) Some persons were concerned about improper or incompatible recreational uses. The examples mentioned were large, fast-moving watercraft, unregulated informal camping, jet skis, and off-road motor vehicles. Response TVA has taken steps to control incompatible water uses around its developed recreation areas by requesting states to designate waters in the immediate vicinity of heavily used swimming beaches and boat ramps as no-boating and no-wake zones, respectively. All Valley states have laws defining proper and safe use of watercraft that apply to waterways within their jurisdiction. Boat operators who do not adhere to boat guidelines or who operate their craft in a reckless manner are subject to arrest and/or fining. Informal camping and such activities as bank fishing, swimming, picnicking, and walking are permitted on most TVA fee-owned lands. Many undeveloped TVA tracts receive heavy, concentrated public use because of their accessibility, physical characteristics, or other factors. Some of these areas have been subjected to abuse, including dumping of trash and damage to trees, and to inappropriate activities, such as alcohol abuse. TVA has regulations prohibiting these abuses of public land, and enforcement is provided by TVA Police as well as some local law enforcement personnel. In some areas, specific use restrictions have been implemented to control abuse. The restrictions most often applied are prohibiting alcohol, firearms, and night use, including camping. These special restrictions are enforced primarily by TVA Police. In a few instances, road access to TVA land has been physically blocked to control persistent abuse problems.

TVA is a Federal agency. I can't say for sure, but suspect you fall under Federal law. I doubt you can legally carry, but I need to do some research.

I'm tired. It's been a long day. I think I'll go for Bourbon and Coke - or maybe Bourbon and Bourbon. There is a gun (or whatever) chat room over at http://www.hk94.com/hk/forums.html if you need one. You will have to register. The Flash Chat button is in the blue bar at the top of the page on the extreme right. It's a bit hard to find. But you have to promise to come back here to post.

Well, just that they have to worry about something bad happening at any time. -

OK, can we get back to flaming the mods rather than the other members?

I know a guy with a couple of quarter-scale Civil War cannons. He doesn't use them any more. I can ask him if he's interested in selling. I do think BATF and HS drop by occasionally, so it might get sticky unless you do reenacting too.

I think we have gone through this gasoline price thing before. We are dealing with an international market. Yes, the oil companies are making more dollars in profit, but those dollars are worth a lot less than they were before When you factor in the declining value of the dollar in international markets and inflation, their profits are not as outrageous as they seem when they have to buy their raw materials in a non-domestic market. Yes, it hurts to be a consumer when the dollar is not strong, but that weak dollar hurts us directly in anything we buy from foreign sources. To a great extent, they are just trying to maintain their profit level relative to the value of their currency. And I'll point out again that there is not shortage of supply of oil or refining capacity, at least for now. There are no shortages of gasoline. It just cost more. If there were shortages, and we had plenty of oil, that would be a reason to invest in refining capacity. Right now, it would just be throwing money away for over-capacity. This is not 1973 where the oil supply was purposely reduced by the oil producing nations. I know most of you don't probably even know about the Arab Oil Embargo in terms of how it affected daily life in this country. But there was not enough oil, largely because we insisted on keeping the value of crude oil artificially low, compared to what it should be in a free market. We ended up with not enough gasoline to supply the nation. We had long gas lines and you could could only buy so much gasoline and that every other day. Prices of gasoline went from around 37 cents to around a dollar a gallon. Given time, the dollar will get stronger and the price of gasoline and other import dependent goods will settle in where it should be, relative to other material costs. The final solution has to be for us to quit being beggars for fuel and become energy independent. For that matter we also need to be food independent and labor independent. Working on that would be time much better spent than making fools of ourself suing OPEC.

WARNING - Post contains some moral and religious content!
Marswolf replied to musicman's topic in General Chat
As I posted in the homosexuality thread, the administrators and moderators have collectively decided to impose a moratorium on religion-centric threads. There are lots of boards on the net to discus religion. We are a gun board with an occasional innocent joke that gets out of hand. So, we are, going to shut down a couple of threads, including this one. -
Well, after a lot of discussion among the administrators and moderators, we have collectively decided to axe this topic, even though it has lightened up a bit, and impose a moratorium on religion-centric threads. We'll figure a way to put it in the rules pretty soon. That doesn't mean you absolutely can't mention the way you were brought up as a very short explanation of why you think some issue is right or wrong, just that we need to be discussing issues and not religious beliefs and getting unpleasant with those who disagree with our personal beliefs. There are lots of boards on the net to discus beliefs. Maybe a group hug is in order.
