Oh no... not another OC topic!
-
What say we don't start any more posts about this matter?

As Eddie says, the rules for a raffle in Tennessee are pretty limiting. Other states' laws may be more or less restrictive. When you start doing an online raffle, you are in all probability involving yourself in interstate commerce and subject to Federal gaming law.

I am going to talk about a couple of my carry guns and why I carry them. I think I'm a pretty professional gun carrier, both with rifles and handguns. But I've been around long enough that I know that even professionals with loads of training don't always deal thoughtfully when handling a gun. So I like a little extra safety factor with the guns I carry. I always want my handguns to be capable of firing. Even the most advanced shooter can panic in some situations. IMHO, you shouldn't have to think to remove a manual safety before you can fire. But that doesn't mean the gun has to have a trigger that may be too easily fired. I carry four handguns at one time or another. I'll ignore the P7M8 and P-3AT for now. Suffice it to say that even in an adrenalin flow situation, they are likely to fire. The other two handguns are what I consider primary use. Both the H&K USP40 and Beretta 92SB are always carried with the safety off. In DA mode, pulling the trigger will always fire the handgun. And they have the option of cocking the hammer for easier firing and better accuracy. Both have the capability to de-cock and re-cock. I will argue that both of those guns are immeasurably safer in DA mode than when carried in SA mode. So, even at what I think is a pretty high level of skill for pistol handling, I normally carry them with the hammer down in DA mode and only cock them when something alerts me that the situation may be getting tense. If I don't see the problem coming, I can still fire the handgun. Typical adrenalin flow trigger pulls are reportedly in the 50# range. So, do I trust my pistol handling skills? You bet. Do I think additional safety while carrying is a good idea? Yep. People who do NDs are indeed nimrods. But I think any of us can become nimrods for the second or two needed to fire a pistol negligently - even me. I think that a little heavier trigger pull or longer trigger throw is a good idea for the first pull of the trigger, and de-cocking the handgun before re-holstering (even if you immediately re-cock it) is also a good idea. That's what I've become comfortable with over my years of carry.

Unlike what most folks think about me, a Glock in 9mm is a good handgun for the proper purpose.

I'll just tell ya'. Bersa/Firestorm make a great little pistol. At this point, I'd recommend them.

I agree. Nothing new coming out of this topic. It's closed. -

BTW, when I think of hooch, I think of structures, not liquids. -
Best thing I can tell you is to find some people with different handguns and ask them if they will let you shoot their handguns. I carry a USP40, P7M8, Beretta 92 and Kel-Tec P3AT. If I'm at a range and someone comes over to look at what I'm shooting, I almost always ask if they want to try my handguns.

The USP is not striker fired. The P7M8 is, but has an automatic de-cocker/re-cocker in the grip. I can't think of a SIG that is striker fired, but I may be wrong.

I have to agree. If you are going to OC, you have to have the look that you can and will use that handgun on your side, rather than just trying to impress your friends with it. Few people have that look unless they are in a uniform or dressed in a way that gives them that look that they should OC for some official reason.

I'm sure it will eventually get down to personal preference. I mean...the Hi-Point will probably be the value leader, but most folks with a few more bucks will probably want a less clunky handgun.

First of all - don't feed the trolls. Back to the matter of OC and CC, I suspect the legislature would have already banned OC if they could figure out a wording that would allow an inadvertent exposure of a CC weapon without giving anti-carry LEOs an opening to harass lawful packers. Remember, that was the reason OC was added to the allowable means of handgun carry. -
I need to make up a list of reliable striker fired pistols and their prices to see where the real value lies.
-
Yeah, but could it be that there are also a lot better handguns out there these days?

I said IMO I didn't think it was a good idea. Unlike you though, I will not go as far as to ruin it for everyone else. Simply conceal it when you need to and go about your business. Regrettably, I think the OC folks are likely to make this the eventual outcome. IMHO, OC will not make the public comfortable with gun carry. They will make the public uncomfortable with it and the legislature will deal with that in a way that we don't like. -
Not one of the best 100 in my opinion, but one that I needed to hear. Very good song.

Boy...I'd agree with that. Here's another by the late Steve Goodman & Bobby Bare. Goodman wrote this song - not that other guy. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaWdInlUbwc[/ame]

I was actually in college when American Pie was released. Local stations played the long version about once an hour. When asked what "American Pie" meant, McLean replied, "It means I never have to work again." YouTube is acting weird, so I can't get the song I want to come up. Maybe later....

Very nice. I don't recall another topic like this here, but I could be wrong. I know we have one on another board called "What are you listening to now". That's up to a zillion pages. I suspect this will turn into a popular topic.

Point well taken, IMHO. BTW, 22 pages? I'm only up to page 6, but I'm set for 40 posts per page. -
Can't deny that. I wonder why so many companies decided to make really ugly copycat polymer frame guns?

Mentally prepared to pull the trigger??
Marswolf replied to RASHGUNNER's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
People get selective about which verse in the Bible they quote. There are probably as many verses telling you to arm yourself as there are telling you to disarm and let other folks have their way with you. Either way would be learned behavior. -

How many of you think that society has trained us to feel badly if we take a human life, even in self defense? How many think that is not learned behavior but innate from the time we are born?
