Posting at library in Jackson because of HCP
Marswolf replied to mac12's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I wrote an email to the director of the system there asking for contact info for the directors. Didn't tell her why I wanted it. -
I never saw Pulp Fiction, or any other Travolta, movies. Care to explain the reference? edit: I take that back. I saw Michael. Not sure why.

It's human nature. But if you can raise doubt without seeming overtly threatening, , most cops would rather look at the law rather than bluster and seem foolish in court. They are trained to be aggressive, not mindlessly ignorant of the law.

Posting at library in Jackson because of HCP

Yeah, the crucial point is what 39-17-1302(a) specifies. Handguns are not there. -
It's priceless. If you are talking about my watch, no it isn't. It's a Spidel Twistoflex. I suspect the original was leather. Probably around here somewhere. As I said, my father (as I) was a techie. Twistoflex was the high-tech of the age. BTW, I had to take out one link for it to fit me. Small wrist. Yes...of course I did it myself.

Yeah, the public park think is confused. I think they have to post, the Attorney General can't read the law and thinks they don't have to post. But you can definitely carry in the library unless it is properly posted (the slash-gun sign won't do). -
Posting at library in Jackson because of HCP

Voldemort, it's a common mistake. In addition to what has been posted, carrying in a posted location is not generally a reason for you to lose your HCP. Just a $500 fine, but you keep your license. Just curious, where did you get your info? Serious. I think I may write to the Jackson County Library Board, as past chairman of the Sullivan County Board. Just a friendly letter explaining why decided to not post the libraries in our county, and why they are idiots to have that policy. Just kidding about that idiot part. People just don't think it through. I may want to pass a preview of the letter by our members here. -
I don't think I can afford it. Yeah, that's the problem around here. The closest dealers are 100 miles away in Knoxville and that doesn't mean they have a clue about who is competent to work on a watch like this. I may send it back to Omega. I thought I'd check with watchmaker, one of our members out of the New York area. He's into expensive flashlights these days - very nice ones. I'm doing a review of a couple of his lights in the next few days.

I was rummaging through my personal safe the other day and spotted my father's old watch. When I was a kid, he bought a third interest in a Piper Tri-pacer. We flew everywhere. Even went on vacation in Daytona in it. I was in about first or second grade at that point. We were VFR (Visual Flight Rules) only and if you wanted to calculate your ground speed, you flew over some point on the ground and timed how long it took to get to another point. So my father, being a techie of that day, spent the enormous sum of about $200 for an Omega Seamaster Tachymetre Chronograph watch. This was around 1956. I'm not sure what the current price of an equivalent is. I'm still researching. Looks like a MSRP of maybe $3000 give or take a thousand or so. Well, my father died almost 29 years ago. I probably wound it a couple of times since 1979. So I decided to get it out of the safe and see if it would run. Kinda stiff at first and it only ran about six hours. But I've I've continued to wind it, it is now running more than a day and the accuracy is really amazing. It's within a couple of seconds a day. Who knows where it could be with a cleaning? So, I've decided to use it as my dress watch, at least for a while. Much more elegant than my Tritium dial military watch. Oh yeah...Omega is the watch that Bond, James Bond wears.

Yeah, I saw that last night. They said he was going about 185 when he hit. Bet a Volvo can't do that.

I think you need to re-read the code. Juveniles may legally posses guns: (A) In attendance at a hunter's safety course or a firearms safety course; ( Engaging in practice in the use of a firearm or target shooting at an established range authorized by the governing body of the jurisdiction in which such range is located or any other area where the discharge of a firearm is not prohibited; © Engaging in an organized competition involving the use of a firearm, or participating in or practicing for a performance by an organized group which is exempt from federal income taxation under § 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (26 U.S.C. § 501©(3)), as amended, and which uses firearms as part of the performance; (D) Hunting or trapping pursuant to a valid license issued to the juvenile pursuant to title 70; (E) Accompanied by the juvenile's parent or guardian and is being instructed by the adult or guardian in the use of the handgun possessed by the juvenile; (F) On real property which is under the control of an adult and has the permission of that adult and the juvenile's parent or legal guardian to possess a handgun; (G) Traveling to or from any activity described in subdivision (d)(1) with an unloaded gun; or (H) At the juvenile's residence and with the permission of the juvenile's parent or legal guardian, possesses a handgun and is justified in using physical force or deadly force. 39-17-1320 relates to an adult knowingly providing a gun to a juvenile who would be in violation of 39-17-1319. Any of the above would be legitimate for the adult to do so. I don't see anything saying you can't give a gun to your kid, just that you have to regulate how and where he uses it.

Hi Doc. Welcome. I'm just up the road from you, in Blountville.

There is a lot of upgrade stuff going on. I'd say the chat room got lost in the shuffle. I reported it.

I think the jury is still out on whether the yo-yo was used as a weapon. But it depends on your definition of yo-yo. http://www.coolquiz.com/trivia/explain/docs/yoyo.asp I've never played with a 4 pound yo-yo.

Thanks for posting this. I saw it on another board, but didn't think to post it here.

It's handy to have a copy of the Code and some AG opinions in the car. That doesn't mean the officer will read them, but if you smile at him and say stuff like, "Are you sure about that? I have a copy of the law in the trunk" he might decide you know what are talking about.

Posting at library in Jackson because of HCP
Marswolf replied to mac12's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Around here, the Library Board would have to make the decision to post. I wonder if the manager has that authority? -
Yeah, there is no set rule. At one time the unofficial rule was 7 in a year, but these days they won't give you and numbers, even unofficially. Let's put it this way, the BATFE regularly raids flea markets in this area. If you are "trading" about every week, they will bust you.

From http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b14 ATF FAQ (B14) May a parent or guardian purchase firearms or ammunition as a gift for a juvenile (less than 18 years of age)? Yes. However, possession of handguns by juveniles (less than 18 years of age) is generally unlawful. Juveniles generally may only receive and possess handguns with the written permission of a parent or guardian for limited purposes, e.g., employment, ranching, farming, target practice or hunting.

I understand Mike, I just wish it could go back to the way it was in the 70s, or even earlier. It's become too much of a business, and too little a race. I wish someone would start a competing racing league. My bet is that fans would come to those races even without the big names and big bucks. Maybe call it True Stock Racing or something. Every team gets to innovate, no restrictor plates, no pit speed limits, reasonable ticket and concession prices, and lots of partying!

Help Support Rory Bricco Bid Against Naifeh

You too. -
I'd prefer to see the cars that can go the fastest do the actual race. Multi-million dollar racing teams are one of the problems with NASCAR, not something that has to be protected IMHO.

I'm really surprised they take phone calls. If I was in their position, every time someone called they would get put on the bottom of the stack. Or maybe I'd ask them to fax me a photocopy of their butt on a copying machine.

And just when I was about to start a "Save Park Snakes" organization.
