  1. Makes me mad they shut down North Wilksboro.
  2. Almost time for the Goody's Cool Orange 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race. Try saying that three times quickly. I'm going to have to get over that way sometime. The track predates NASCAR by a couple of years. The fridge is stocked with beer. I have most of the stuff cut up for my taco salad.Just have to bake the shell, slice some lettuce and assemble the delicacy. Well, if you have beer with it, it's a delicacy. BTW, if you haven't tried Tobasco's Chipotle sauce, you need to do that. Not as hot as the standard Tobasco Sauce but with a delicious flavor. For today, I'd rather watch on TV. The temperature is 37.5 degrees. With a 7 mph wind, the wind chill is 30 degrees and they may get some showers. Well, off to the races.
  3. But some are easier than others.
  4. Do you mean allocation device, ammunition storage, tube-shaped, portable, hollow, tactical?
  5. I don't think a public vote on restaurant carry would pass. The public doesn't understand that the people they really need to fear will carry in a restaurant anyway and that the current law just makes them an easier target.
  6. I knew it couldn't stay friendly for long. Lots of us here on this board know what a bullet can do to humans - other humans and ourselves. Friendly fire deaths in Vietnam were about 14%. The only military units I know that use Glocks are MPs.
  7. Actually, I just call it a clip to irritate the grammar police on the board. But every veteran I know from WWII or Korea does call it a clip. I do not correct them, but I do call it a magazine when I'm talking with them. Here on the board, I think I'll continue to call it a clip for a while, just to raise the blood pressure of the anal retentive. On another front, most of the cavalry reenactors I know think they are Calvary reenactors. That always crucifies me.
  8. A "clip"is a "magazine" for those or us who honor those who served and fought for us previous to Vietnam. They still call them "clips" -- so they are. I defer to them.
  9. Fringe? I'd say he far removed from being fringe, and not in the good direction. Women would vote for Satan first. I'm not sure he'd even get his wife's vote. "I man! I rule marriage! Bible tell me so. Uh!!!"
  10. A friend who used to be on the Johnson City force told me about the quotas there. I think it was 4 moving and 4 non-moving tickets per shift. So the first part of your shift, you would go watch your favorite stop sign that no one stopped for. Those counted as your non-moving ones. Or you could find four people parked illegally. You then had the rest of your shift to pick your moving victims - errr, I mean speeding criminals. When I lived in Raleigh, they were a bit less blatant about it. On the State Patrol force, the new guys had it explained to them by the veterans. You would go in for a review once a month. Your supervisor would write down a number on his desk pad and keep circling it. Nothing was ever said about it. But when you came in the next month, it would not be good if you hadn't issued at least that many tickets.
  11. I've been to one gun show in about five years, about a month ago. I might go to another one in another five years.
  12. Actually, I think plan "B" is more likely to work.
  13. Remember that in many (most?) departments officers have their quota of traffic tickets they are expected to issue on their shift. It's more revenue enhancement than making the streets safe. Problems like that start at the top with the Chief and Board of Mayor and Alderman or County Commission. I'm always more careful for the first couple of hours of a shift. More recently, red light cameras have become a means of revenue enhancement, even if it actually makes the streets less safe by causing more rear end collisions. Kingsport adds some more every few months. I go to Kingsport a lot less than I used to because of them. I take my business to places I'm not hassled as much. The traffic ticket scam can cost an area too. And it does degrade the image of LE to the public. I've advocated for years that all revenue from traffic fines go directly to the state and in no way be returned to the counties or municipalities.based on how much money they raise. I also advocate that traffic stops only be made that will result in the driver being taken to jail. Eliminate tickets altogether. If the crime isn't bad enough to incarcerate someone, it isn't bad enough to ticket them. Another pipe dream....
  14. What the hell happened? This actually turned into a polite and sensible conversation - except for the always silly "keep your finger off of the trigger" thing.
  15. You owe me a keyboard.
  16. I really like carrying spare clips.
  17. I'd like to move on from Mr. Bricco and pipe dreams about eliminating welfare. The reality is that the Tennessee House has 99 members. That means that the party that has 50 members controls the body. Right now, the Republicans have 46 members. Assuming that no Democrats would vote to make the Speaker a Republican, that means the Repubs need to pick up 4 seats, while losing none of the seats they now hold. I might also remind folks that following the 2004 election, 9 Republicans voted for Jimmy Naifeh as Speaker after moderate Democrat Frank Buck declined to run against Naifeh for the position. So, it seems to me that plan "A" is to make sure current Republican seats remain Republican and find vulnerable Democrat seats and try to replace those folks with Republicans. Plan "B" is to find a pro-gun popular Democrat, get all of the Republicans to vote for him and at least 4 Democrats who will support him as Speaker. No point in throwing money down a rat hole supporting unelectable candidates. Put your money where it might do some good.
  18. I don't think I've been to Pigeon Forge in the last 10 years that there wasn't a car show.
  19. He looks to me like a dingbat.
  20. I'm not sure Rory Bricco could win if he was the only candidate on the ballot. But the trick is to put Republicans in the House majority. Nothing less will solve the problem.
  21. Too bad that finger safety thing fails so often in a Glock.
  22. Sounds to me like he would do better to run for fundamentalist preacher.
  23. Yeah. Having a spare clip is a good idea.
  24. I grew a beard a couple of years ago. Now it's all gray.
