That translates as, "Just ignore this state video we are required to show you." -
Holy Friggin' Crap... (content warning for link enclosed)

Everything I've ever seen about this has said it's a 45. -
Grassroots folks. Grassroots. If your representative is an anti-gunner you need to politely tell them, in person if possible, how disappointed you are in them. You also need to pressure the local party folks (both parties) to find and run viable pro-gunners for office. Give money if you can, but also offer volunteer time if a suitable candidate will run. Going door to door asking people to vote for your candidate often turns the tide in an election.

Question For the Instructors on the Forum
Marswolf replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm not a firearms instructor, nor do I play one on TV. But by the time I took the Tennessee carry course, I had been training for 30+ years courtesy of my Uncle Samuel. I'm not being critical of schools that really teach a lot of range-time firearms safety and technique to students who need that training, but some people really don't need it. Most people in our class ($50) were gun club members and knew a lot about handguns and how to shoot them. OTOH, we had the proverbial little old lady who came with her husband and hardly knew where the trigger was. Frankly, few of us needed any time on the range except to put sufficient holes in the paper to meet state requirements. Did we spend 4 hours on the range? Well...I think I shall remain silent on that matter. But we did do more than four hours on the legal part. That is where most people need the time, IMHO. Look how many of us on a Tennessee specific gun board do not know the law. I'm not talking about gray areas, I mean the concrete specifics that are in Tennessee Code. I'm not one who is going to denigrate the schools that don't follow the requirements to the letter. Nor do I think that everyone needs a multi-day course. There need to be different courses for people with different levels of shooting skills. One size fits all is not a good idea, as I see it. My view is that a carry course should be a carry course - not a tactical course. Beginning shooters need more than the bare minimum and should take a more comprehensive course of study. But the basic carry course should be pretty much what the state says is required to get a permit. Assuming that all course participants are neophytes or need remedial training may not be the best idea. From a personal standpoint I would never take a course that lasted more than one day. And I would (and did) look carefully at the cost of the course. I got everything I need for my $50. In the end, those who have a carry permit need to practice to get the bullets to hit the target, and only the target if something happens. They also need to understand the law and know that the law may change every year. You can't get that skill and knowledge in any carry course of any length. That takes continuing practice and research. A gun school can't require that, but should encourage it. -
For some reason, I thought the fingerprint card was just one year. Back to the research desk....

Maybe the guys have other positive attributes as far as the women are concerned. -
This all reminds me of Fayetteville, NC. They "cleaned up" the city. Now you may recall that Fayetteville is the home of Fort Bragg. Even in the 70s, I used to drive down to Fayetteville from Raleigh on pay day to enjoy the company of some friends. Normally, this was in one of the strip bars downtown. Funny how that works. Well they decided to clean up the area. I have a record about it called Stuck In Fayetteville Blues. "Girls who used to do business on Hay, can now be found up to five miles away."

I can't figure out why you guys have been even thinking there could be a different outcome. The Democrats control the House and will continue to vote Naifeh in as speaker until he croaks. Naifeh appoints anti-gun folks to these committees. These matters will go anti-gun until we exchange enough Democrats for Republicans.

Hydra-Shoks are OK. They sometimes clog when going through denim and don't expand properly. I agree, but Federal isn't pushing that ammo. In fact I talked to a field rep about it and he basically acted like he didn't know anything about it.

Gotcha! Actually the charcoal is sugar maple charcoal. Jack Daniel's was a customer of mine back in the 80s. I now return you to the topic. I wonder why we always get off topic?

Feel free to send all of your scotch to me.

A gift or a sale? Lots of these questions are covered in this ATF FAQ: http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/

Sound like a great idea to me. BTW, did I mention that I sell burial insurance? Two year exemption for Glocks.

Isn't it odd that the owner of Extreme Shock (Mullins Ammunition) reneged on an offer to send me some Extreme Shock Ammunition to test after he found out, in a conversation between us, that I intended to test it in ballistic gelatin? I even offered to do the test at their site. NOPE! I'm sorry. My mind is made up. This is mindless crap. It is used by Special Forces, BTW. Confirmed it myself with some buddies at Fort Bragg. They use it because it doesn't do as much damage in training to their metal targets. But I did ask one of the guys at our East-Tennessee shoot to not fire his one round into the hillside in fear that all the trees would blow up.

I wonder if anyone mixes good Tennessee Whiskey with something inferior like Bourbon?

You know, of all the military, Government Service, and LE people I know over now into 40 years of government service, I've never asked one of them if he ever killed someone and I've never had one of them ask me if I have. It has come up in conversation, but never as a specific question of another guy's killing someone else. Much of the time it is just understood. I think some kid asked me once. You expect kids to do stuff like that. Killing someone is not a badge of honor or manliness except to those who haven't had to do it and who do not understand how valuable life is.. Mindless killing is something juveniles do to prove they are dumb enough to join a gang. That's a mark of un-intelligence. Killing in the line of duty is just part of the job, if necessary, for military and LE. For the public it may be part of self-preservation. As with any act, you deal with the consequences. Some deal better than others. But you do it because you have to and know that a real man will do what is honorable and will then deal with the results. Maybe that's why a topic like this is a bit irritating. Many of us do what is necessary. Asking whether we have done something like killing someone else seems more like a voyeur looking over our shoulder, watching the show but not doing the act. Whether we have done the act or not is between us and God.

Well, we'll just have to disagree. Since the code does not specify conditions under which your are under the influence of alcohol for packing,, I think the courts would interpret that as having consumed any alcohol that is still in your blood and therefore influencing you. What it specifies for LE is fine. But the code just says we are not to be under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance. It's a gray area, By one legal definition: "Under the influence phrase is used when someone is not acting in his full consciousness state of mind." My guess is that if an officer smells beer on your breath and you are packing, you won't like the outcome.
