  1. Truer words may never have been spoken!
  2. We're shooting rain, snow, or 'shine - right?
  3. Done. I have a feeling it'll be lonely in Squad 5!
  4. Because I'm stubborn and hard-headed, and I think if I ever need to fire a rifle "for real" I'm going to wish it were a .308 ;-)
  5. Total score was half based on your run time, and half based on your shooting time.  You shot until you hit all the targets at each stage, or ran out of time (3 minute limit).  Running out of time meant a DQ for the stage.  No penalty for misses, except depleting the only ammo you're carrying.  Several people ran out of ammo before finishing.
  6. I've been in love with the FAL for well over a decade now. It's my go-to rifle. That being said - it does give up a little in accuracy as compared to most AR10 type rifles. But it has an edge in reliability. The thing simply runs.
  7. This is new - does it make it easier for you to score or run the match somehow? I just registered - hope it helps!
  8. And here's the website for the match:  http://www.okrunngun.com
  9. Let's try this again, but this time with a video that works:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EZQDEYvT1I&feature=youtu.be
  10. Hmmm - can't seem to embed video here.  Here's the link:  (Problematic video removed - please see new post below)   It's HD and won't run in Firefox for some reason, but it's only 2 minutes long so it doesn't take long to watch.  My total run time was just under 2 hours.   And just because everyone always asks about what I screwed up: In one stage I misunderstood the course of fire and shot pistol targets with my rifle, which cost me about 30 seconds and the RO's a small panic attack while they yelled at me to stop and pointed out the correct targets off hiding in the woods line. In the last stage I'm not sure if I was just spent or if it was the 20+mph winds blowing me and the bullet around, but it gave me fits getting all my hits at 150-220yds and I just BARELY finished before timing out (3 minute max time or you DQ the stage). I was then futzing with my gear and flustered from my performance and managed to miss the turn back to the house and the finish line, adding a good several minutes to my run time before I figured out I was going the wrong way, turned around, and ran all the way back to the turn. The worst part is that when running UP the hill before shooting the stage I saw a guy miss that very same turn, and made a mental note NOT to do the same thing. So much for my mental notes... Good times!
  11. I wanted to post this here to try and talk more Tennesseeans to try this next time -   I ran 101.6 miles in 6 weeks while training for this event - 34.7 miles of which was with 40 lbs of gear on. 11 hour drive to get there. 90 competitors.   8th place finish - worth every drop of sweat and penny spent!   I cannot say enough good things about how well this match was run or the people who put it on. If you have any interest in this kind of thing you owe it to yourself to go!   <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gng109EIYiA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  12. Very cool. That big hairy guy wouldn't be Hill Redwine, would it? I shoot with him at the GA FAL Match most years. That boy can shoot a FAL, and I'd assume he knows his way around a long range rifle too?
  13. It ate my lunch too - but I enjoy the challenge and it's obvious I need more practice on movers!
  14. Thanks for the quick scoring Alan! Great match as always - I hope to see more of those movers next year.
  15.   I bet it's nice!  Those triggers are like butter.  Or maybe glass.  Glass butter.   I don't want to shoot it too much - I might start to like it.
  16. Looking forward to it!
  17. Going to have to miss this one as I'll be in Florida. Hope somebody else carries the "heavy" flag while I'm gone! You all have fun -
  18. Let me know if you need any more help breaking it in. My trigger finger isn't even tired yet!
  19. Thanks Rickey - I've been there to shoot Highpower and Long Range Rifle, but it's been several years ago, and never for 3-gun or IDPA. That eastern time zone is the worst part - I'd go much more frequently if I didn't lose an hour in the morning!
  20.   Dangit - I'm gone this weekend too!     I'm confused about ORSA though - There's a regular 3-gun match on the 22nd/23rd, and then a 3GN Classifier match on the 29th?  The 22nd/23rd is my only free weekend, so it's looking good for ORSA I guess -
  21. I'm out of town the 1st Sunday in November so will have to miss my normal Manchester 3-gun match - so I'm looking for a substitution. Who can tell me about ORSA? How many stages, what's the longest rifle shot, any peculiarites (heavy on shotgun, buck and slugs, evil TX stars, etc.)? Also - which rules do they play by? I normally shoot Heavy Optics, but not everyone has that available.
  22. But you're only Heavy Metal if you take the scope off. There's no Heavy Optics in IMG rules. I'll keep my scope (don't want to mess up my good zero!) and go Tac Optics against all the .223 guys. I need some more controlled pair practice anyway!
  23. Good deal - the FAL and I will be there! Trying to keep my rules straight - if I have a scope on my .308 rifle I'm in Tac Optics with the .223 guys, right? That means 2 shots anywhere or 1 shot in the 0-zone to neutralize - regardless of the caliber? Or is this pure IDPA scoring, with 1/2 second added per point down?
  24. I just realized - if .308 is "heavy" does that mean .223 is "light metal"? What would that be, like old Poison or something? :-)
