I do not have access to one. And the couple of shooting ranges I visit do not keep one on hand.

I have some Novak tritium sights on a 1911 pistol. I am wanting to adjust the point of impact in the windage plane. What is the best way to do this WITHOUT a sight adjustment tool? If the sights were not tritium I would simply loosen the windage screw and tap the sight over with a rubber mallet. But I am afraid this might damage the capsule on the sights. Is this a correct assumption? Any suggestions?

Ditto.... 54% no-46% yes.

You are correct atomemphis.... in my reply I meant 'fail to feed'.. NOT 'fail to fire'!! Sorry if that reply caused any confusion.

My primary carry weapon is an Ultra Compact 1911. I quickly found that most of your 'jamming issues' with this type of weapon are due to improper extractor tension. I originally had some FTF issues but after approximately 30 minutes of beveling, polishing and adjusting the tension on the extractor.... problem solved. Since then I have not had a single malfunction of any type. As usual.... it is always a matter of personal choice. Diehard Glock fans are just that.... ditto for 1911 fans.

I thought you were allowed to shoot anything as long as you scream "OH MY GOD...IT IS COMING RIGHT FOR ME!!" before doing so.

Is it a sub-compact?

I have 2 H&K's.... both in .45 ACP and LOVE both of them more than any other weapon I own. I also own an XD (also in .45 ACP) and much prefer the H&K. I have never owned a Glock but I once had an issue shooting one at the Ducks Unlimited Festival in Memphis. It was an accidental discharge that I take full responsibility for (absolutely no one was injured or anything like that... I just put a hole where they did not want one) because I was unfamilar with the weapon. A Glock rep had instructed me on the function but it still happened. After that I vowed to not own one. I have NEVER had a malfunction of any kind with either of my USP's. As far as the magazines prices go, if you look hard enough you can find them for the same price as a good 1911 magazine. But do not expect to find a good deal simply lying around most gun shops. The USP is not a high capacity firearm by any stretch. But I personally think this is a non-issue (for myself anyway). I have recently looked at the P2000 and it will definitely be my next handgun purchase if I decide to go any smaller than a .45. That is my proverbial two cents worth.

Ditto on the previous 4 posts. They are EXTREMELY wise and VERY cautious in their approach. Patience is a must but so is a tack driving rifle if you are going to engage them in any open terrain. I choose to hunt with a Model 700 chambered in .22-250. I reload my own ammo but there is some really good stuff on the market, such as the Federal Premium loaded with Nosler Ballistic Tips. Personally I prefer the 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip or the 50 grain Hornady V-Max. This combination is flat shooting out to 400 yards, low recoil and will drop a coyote (bobcat, groundhog, fox, etc.) in it's tracks!! And if you get the chance to hunt in the snow by all means do it then. Get you a pair of the disposable Tyvex painter's coveralls and wrap up your weapon with cloth medical tape. You will virtually disappear.

I got it to work!! Here is my Taurus with the DuraCoat and a few more modifications.
-
Thanks strickj..... I will try that. Hey gcrookston..... is your Taurus DuraCoated? I think the same person did mine.
-
For my first one I picked up a Taurus PT-1911AR. My reasoning was I did not want to spend lots of money on a platform I was unfamilar with. I figured if I did like the 1911 style handgun, then I already had one and would hang on to it until I purchased others. Since then I have purchased 2 more! The finish on the Taurus sucks at best and I quickly had it DuraCoated. The Taurus is a great entry level 1911 that allows you to get familar with the workings of the gun, disassembly, etc. If I could figure out how to insert a $#%&* photo I would show you.

What brand of ammunition do you use in your carry weapon?
JimmyJoe69 replied to TGO David's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Federal Hydrashoks in all my 1911's. My other .45's either get the same or Speer Gold Dots. -
Ditto on the Kleen Bore. It is very inexpensive which allows you to add your own little items such as nylon brushes, TONS of patches, etc. I bought one for my girlfriend in .38/.357 at Guns & Leather and paid all of $5.00 for it. It was in the bin with the closeout items.

Smith & Wesson Model 1917 parts? Is this a collector?
JimmyJoe69 replied to JimmyJoe69's topic in Handguns
Thanks for the info guys. I have shown it to my friend and he is going to join TGO based on ya'lls information!! -
A friend of mine brought in a handgun that his father gave him years ago. It is a Smith & Wesson Model 1917. On the underside of the barrel it is stamped "United States Property". The side of the barrel is marked "S & W DA45". I have done some research and found out that the weapon fires the .45 ACP round. The pistol is missing the thumbpiece for releasing the cyclinder. Are there any local dealers that deal in parts for this old weapons or are we going to have to do the "online purchase"? And by the way.... would anyone know the value of said pistol? It appears to be fully functional but the finish is extremely worn. It also has a leather holster that bears a "U.S." logo on one side and "G&K 1917" on the other. Thanks to all that reply.

Nice grips. I have considered a pair of those for my Taurus and I think these pics made up my mind! Two questions.....1. Did you say that Alumagrips manufactured the magwell also? (because I could not find it on their website) 2. It appears that your factory Taurus magazines still work with the magwell.... is that correct?

Greetings all. I am new to this site although I have already posted a few threads and gotten some good tips on things. I was turned on to this site from one of the owners of On Target in 'The Boro'. This site quickly because the tops on my favorites list and hit it up frequently.
-
Yep.... woke me out of a deep sleep. Even though I had never been in one, I knew what was going on. The bed was rocking back and forth and I could hear some items in the house rattling.
-
Have you tried On Target in Murfreesboro?

I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on refinishing a 1911 pistol. I have heard good things about DuraCoat. Has anyone had a weapon DuraCoated? Or how about parkerizing? I am open to any suggestions and reasoning behind your opinion. The weapon will most likely be a primary weapon for concealed carry. Thanks.

Thus the case... it is a Springfield Armory Ultra compact and I just wanted a lighter spring for when I am shooting light loads at the range. It operates fine with standard and defense loads. Just want to tweak it for the range.
