  1. Fixed that for you. By the way, welcome to the site!
  2. Just an update: The 'yotes I've been after (and can't get within a shootable distance because of undergrowth, trees, etc.) were hanging out in the field I hunt from, approximately 25 - 50 yards from my spot. 8 of 'em singing at full throttle at around 9pm last night. Open field and all. Conrad, if you're reading, get ready for this weekend. I'll shoot you a pm later in the week about Saturday afternoon.
  3. Mr. RobertY, welcome from a fellow East Tennessean. I remember playing in the Pee-Wee football championship in Loudon, TN when I was 5. There was an A&W drive-in that served the best foot-long hot dog's I had had in my entire five year old life up Loudon way.
  4. Thanks, Tim! You, sir, are the first contributor to my "Gotta try that" loads!
  5. I was just pokin', RW. Your explanation is exactly why I posted the thread, and actually, the same situation. This .25-06 is for my son. I think I would like to try the 87 or 100gr bullets at first, to lessen the initial recoil. I'll start in on the load development soon, and if no one posts up some loads, I'll keep my progress posted up.
  6. Glad I'm not the only lazy one . . . . . Just kidding, RW!
  7. This is a garter snake. They're the good guys.
  8. Alright guys and gals, Just picked up a Ruger M77 in .25-06, and have never reloaded this caliber before. I have the Hornady, Speer, Lyman, and Vhitavuori manuals, but honestly, I'd like to be a little lazy and skip the starting points of load development and start with established loads that need only a little, if any, tweaking. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
  9. The .270 would be fine. There are some lanes where you could take close to 300 yard shots. The .270 would perform very well.
  10. I use a .22-250, Remington 700 VTR and Remington 788. If you have a .223 or .22-250, I have more than enough ammo for everyone involved.
  11. No way I'd let you just call. When we do get to go, be sure to come equipped. to shoot, that is.
  12. That's good info, Conrad. I got 2 of 'em in to the field adjacent to the field I was hunting in this am. Because of brush coverage and high grass, there was no shot on them. I couldn't get them to come any closer using the "Wounded rabbit" distress call. Figure them to have been about 350 yards or so out, not a super tough shot on flat plains, but a real frustrating one in the hills and undergrowth of SE TN. I got your PM, I'll shoot you a pm next time I know for sure I'm headed up.
  13. My vote is for the Marlin 60. I still own my first .22 rifle, a model 60 that I recieved for Christmas in 1981, and have never replaced a single part on the gun, other than having it parkerized. I own a 10/22 as well, and they are fun and easy to go overboard with, but the 60 is a top notch performer straight out of the box for under $150.
  14. Yes. Quite possibly. "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Sorry. Best line in the movie
  15. Rocky 1 & 2 Tombstone Princess Bride Shawshank Redemption Unforgiven

  17. Not sad at all. I think that's where 99.99999% of all of us started. I love my .22's, and they are probably shot more than any of my other rifles, simply for the fact that my 9 year old son can shoot for hours with no soreness associated with recoil.
  18. How do ya like that 218? I've always been curious about 'em.
  19. .22 .22 Mag .204 .223 / 5.56 .22-250 .243 .25-06 .270 .280 .30-30 .308 .30-06 .338 (Win Mag) .454 (Not a rifle caliber, but a lever chambered in it) 7.62 X 39 7.62 x 54R 12, 16, 20, and 410
  20. Visited the Chattanooga National Cemetery
  21. Anyone having any luck at all? My parents own 27 acres in Georgetown, TN (just north of Harrison Bay / Wolftever) that backs up and corners up to another farm. The guy who owns the other farm had seen coyotes for several weeks in a row, then one day, Turkeys started disappearing. They asked if I would come set up and pop a few of 'em. I was more than happy to scout it out, even found a semi-cave that I suspect they are using for a den when scouting it out with binoculars (nice little path worn in the tall grass running into it). But, with all this rainy weather, I can't even get a sight of 'em when I'm able to get up there.
  22. Cheesy jokes! I love 'em, there's another gun site that I used to frequent that had "Bad Joke Friday". Some real groaners: String walks into a bar....... String: "Bartender, gimme a drink." Bartender: "Sorry, we don't serve string in here." String was very disappointed. So, String goes outside where the bartender can't see him, ties himself in a knot, musses up his hair, and goes back into the bar........ String: "Bartender, gimme a drink." Bartender: " Say,......aren't you that.....string....?" String: "No, I'm a frayed knot...."
  23. This weekend has rained out several plans, so what better to pass the time than giving new life to an old favorite (that will shoot the lights out, by the way). I don't have any "start" pics, because I didn't think about it, but here's what I started with: Remington 788 chambered in .22-250. Blued, but needed love, sitting in a Ram-Line black synthetic stock. Rainy day game plan: Wheeler Cerama-Coat spray on / bake on finish - Parkerized color, and some rolls of camo tape. Everything was re-finished and baked on. By everything, I mean even the magazine, which took a leap of faith since they are so hard to find. Anyway, it was fun for me and the boy. Now, the pics. They are kind of rough, since they were taken with my phone, but not too bad . . . .
  24. Love the Princess Bride reference!
  25. My favorite group of knives. Excellent quality, and top notch customer service. Though some of their designs are a little out there, most are very attractive, and all that I own are very functional. Not enough good things to say about 'em.
