  1. Just to nitpick, it's WEST Main on that side of the main intersection (and actually W Main for one block on the other side too, just to make it more confusing - OS
  2. (re: SuperCell) Okay, called, here's the deal. Shotguns: synthetic stocks - have pads for 1187 and 870 models. wooden stocks - newer models (last 5 years or so fitted with R3 pad). Rifles: Very limited Any synthetic stock Wood stocks: only those made in last few years with R3 pad. I specifically asked about 7400 .30-06: answer is no, won't fit. So, sounds like if you have a synthetic stock, or R3 pad, SuperCell will fit. (I wouldn't know an R3 from Adam's housecat, myself). - OS
  3. Sevier County Fairgrounds are on Old Knoxville Highway, just off main drag on Knoxville side of 411/441/W.Main (which is Chapman Hwy to Knoxville). Left at the light just before center of town if you were coming Chapman from Knoxville. Traffic's even worse down there on July weekends (I guess, maybe the economy has affected it, haven't been down there since March. If you were coming Interstate/Winfield Dunn, better to go right before town at the new cut/bridge from Winfield Dunn to the new Events Center is better, then left on Old Knox. Not a huge area, sits there between Old Knox Hwy and Winfield Dunn (sort of behind Lowe's/Kroger. If I were going there from Knoxville on weekend, I'd take Chapman to left on Boyd's Creek (308, center of Seymour), then right on Old Knoxville Hwy short of Winfield Dunn and go in that way, past Eagle's Landing G.C. and Events center. S&W 340 PD

Hey thar YANKEE2500, look what you started !! You should have known better than ask for opinions on a FIREARM of all things here, eh? ;) - OS ps: I shot an acquaintance's 340 outdoors, cylinder full of some kind of 357 and cylinder full of some kind of .38 (+p I guess). The .38 was all I wanted in MY hand. Love the size/weight for concealed carry, but that plutonium alloy doesn't absorb much. By comparison, in my Ruger SP101, .357's feel about same if not LIGHTER than the .38 +p in that Smith. BTW, the Ruger is less than an inch longer than the Smith, but of course weighs 25 oz empty. Oh, pps: I don't know which model 340 it was.
  5. (regarding SuperCell) Thanks for that. Think I might call, too. For shotguns, there's one for wood stocks and one for synthetic stocks. Dunno what the third shotgun one is on CheaperThanDirt. I'll ask about the rifle one, too and post back unless someone else has cleared the matter up first. - OS
  6. Well, there's apparently two shotgun models, and one rifle model. It's a little confusing, and Remington site doesn't go into details re the separate models. CheaperThanDirt actually lists FOUR models, 3 for shotgun, one for rifle. But with no detailed explanation either: Here's the one for the rifle: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/53667-1.html All of them are on this page: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ItemListing.aspx?catid=1024 Confusing, to say the least, - OS
  7. Well, it seems pretty obvious that a newbie or confused clerk at the DOS just put the wrong peel-off sticker on it. If it were truly a renewal, you'd be good to go (assuming you also had the actual previous HCP too). If found out carrying with it, you would likely be able to plead "newbie ignorance" and get away without penalty, but it's possible you'd have to go through a bunch of LEO/court/financial hassle in the process, so in my view it's not remotely worth the risk to carry with it. - OS
  8. What about Remington's own new highly touted "Super Cell" pad? Everyone seems to think it's the cats pajamas, only about $20. I'd for sure get one for my shotgun if I planned on firing it much, which I don't. (unless the zombies get antsy). Hmmm, maybe I oughtta get one just in case. - OS
  9. Yep, absolutely the best value, bang for buck, of all firearms, IMNSHO. Equally good for game or those pesky zombies. - OS
  10. Are you posting through a way back machine? - OS
  11. That was Kyle Testerman. Idiot voters re-elected him again AFTER Tyree, though. I arrived on the scene here in fall of '66, myself. Somehow survived Knoxville 22, Billy Graham/Richard Nixon, Operation Aquarius, and the World's Fair. - OS
  12. Extremely lucid explanation. - OS
  13. Great pistol, love mine. Advice: get her to shoot the first 200 rounds through it soon; use both magazines. It will probably eat about any 9mm ammo fine, but be sure to put at least both magazines worth of whatever she is going to carry in it through it; 2 mags each even better. Yeah, it kinda hurts to shoot $20-50 worth of whatever pricey hollow point ammo through it at range, but you want to insure that it eats the ammo of carry choice without fail. Also, heed the Kahr instructions to chamber the first round from the magazine with slide stop. Especially for a lady who might not get a perfect grip/pull on the stiff slide, that IS important. My PM9 has about 300 rounds so far, and I've run WWB, Remington UMC, Remington Express JHP, and (carry ammo) Federal HydraShok all fine. I had ONE "failure to feed" in first 50 rounds or so, where slide didn't completely close, tapped it closed and continued on. Might have been a limp wrister, dunno. If she has more than one like this, make sure she's got firm leverage on the thing. Don't know about her hand/finger strength, but not being a semi-auto guy in general, I found it difficult to load the shortish 9mm shells into the mags over and over for range work. I spent whopping 5 bucks or so on: http://magloader.com/ I'm sure I'll run at least another 200-300 through it with different ammos before I'm as comfy depending on it as I would a revolver. I've always been a wheelgun kinda guy, but once I decided to carry all the time, I couldn't resist the size/firepower combo of the Kahr. - OS
  14. Yeah, I think this reporter's confrontation in New Hampshire is somewhat about that distinction: (starts with audio only, then video cuts in) - OS
  15. There are several other locations where taught in the state: http://www.kravmaga.com/tennessee.asp Wow, even one here in Knoxville. - OS
  16. Means their state law "preempts" ("takes precedence over") local law. . Means you can open carry with a permit, period. (I've not even played a lawyer on TV, though). - OS
  17. Methinks that's going to require an expensive custom concealment holster. - OS
  18. Yeppers, second that motion. - OS
  19. "belly" shots, meaning intestinal cavity, are seldom fatal in the short term, even with big calibers. Peritonitis is a biggie here, and that can set in within hours. Not to mention intestine loss depending on location/extent of the damage. Belly area is really NOT a prime stop threat area, though. - OS
  20. Consider Kahr, of course. PM9 and PM40 smaller and lighter than Glock, not much bigger than your LCP. Pricey, nice pieces. - OS
  21. Well, it's just badly worded. What they mean is, if you have applied for/paid for renewal BEFORE your existing permit runs out, you can carry with the receipt AFTER your existing permit runs out (assuming you haven't received your new one). This would be opposed to applying for renewal AFTER your existing permit lapses. - OS

    Kahr guns?

It is Knoxville. "Clever" obviously moot. - OS
  23. Oh Shoot

    Kahr guns?

Sure. But unless you see one laying around used, you may well have to order it, as the polymer frame models are all the rage (and for good reason). OS
  24. Thanks, just curious, as this seems the FASTEST I've heard of yet. Good for you! You ain't related to Naifeh are ya? - OS
  25. In TN, your permit is called Handgun Carry Permit. HCP. Concealment is not a requirement. It is not a "Concealed Carry" permit. Permits are for 4 years. All of this info is readily available: http://www.tennessee.gov/safety/handgunmain.htm OS
